Been told they are

Here’s an example of an average week, more or less:

Monday (I work at 6, so do something simple)

Feta & red onion salad with new potatoes & rice

Tuesday

Pasta with jar pesto (working today)

Wednesday

Dh to do omlette/eggs on toast with salad (working today)

Thursday

Salmon, salad, new potatoes

Friday

Homemade chilli with rice, nachos & dips

Saturday

Takeaway

Sunday

Roast dinner/homemade lasagne

Are they?

Maybe we could all discuss how healthy our bowel movements are based on our fibre intake. A four on the Bristol Stool Chart is the aim lol

Oh thats brilliant yes. If you're the 'wrong number' I can look down on you.

The pesto will probably be UPF.

Bingo! Someone do a shot.

Aren’t shots UPF or does the alcohol kill off the processing?

I'd add in some veg in with pasta. Stir fry onions, peppers, mushrooms, carrots and herbs and use passata for sauce. The pesto will probably be UPF.

Aldi does a reasonably good one. (Got lactic and ascorbic scd if your being a bit ultra. But I am OK with them)

Fruit available after dinner
In winter I do vegetables like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower etc, just changed to salads etc, not sure what else I could add?

My kids have pasta and pesto quite regularly. I throw some frozen peas in to cook with the pasta for a bit of extra veg. Sometime frozen sweetcorn or some fresh baby corn.

Feetinthegrass · 11/05/2025 19:24

I think it sounds pretty standard and fine to me. Especially if they are eating fruit as well. I add vitamins daily and that’s it, who is criticising you op?

It cancels it out if there is a plant in it.

Wine = grapes = sugar = type lv diabetes. Wine also has no protein and I suspect....upf gasps How uninspired and dull. Have you thought about educating yourself and doing better? If I can come up with anymore faddy buzzwords after a scroll on Instagram, I'll be back with more condescending retorts. I'm thinking...something about fibre.

HolidayHell2025 · 11/05/2025 19:45

I batch cook and make meals in between.

Pesto freshnis suoer easy to make and tastes a million % better then the scrappy shop stuff.

The meals are fine if your suoer busy and working lates. But try to batch cook every now ans then a build up a supply in the freezer.

Do social services know?

Isn’t shoving a jar of sauce into a bowl of pasta how most of us got through university? That and instant noodles.

Edited

But maybe you might want to put in a bit effort for young, growing kids.

You’re right. They get a Greggs sausage roll and a can of coke.

I hope the sausage roll is free range and organic 🙏🏼

Sounds lovely to me. New potatoes and rice is an odd combination though, you don’t need double carbs. Unless you’re cooking a curry that has potatoes in it. Fine for a child I think.

My train of thought exactly and also some of the meals sound a bit lightweight if they're for adults main meal, a little too much salad maybe and not nearly enough protein?! 🙄

WhineAndWine1 · 11/05/2025 21:42

@soupyspoonno I’m not. A casserole or lasagna take a lot longer than 40 mins to make. Most meals I make unless most is pre made take around 40 mins including prep.

@faerietalesI don’t quite frankly. I enjoy cooking and like I mentioned at the top of my comment take more than 40 mins.

Struggle to stay alive?

This is bonkers. Your food is broadly similar to my own diet & there's nothing amiss with me or mine. I wouldn't have a takeaway quite so often but I used to when I worked full time.
Stick to what you're doing & ignore the clever dicks on here - most of them seem to come here to Wag Their Fingers 😀

How does one get dinner made in 40 minutes? It takes me at least 8 hours. Catching my own salmon. Hunting my own grilled lean chickens. Foraging for seeds and nuts. Fighting of my local competitor birds for said seeds and nuts. You must be cutting corners or relying on upf.

WhineAndWine1 · 11/05/2025 21:57

Genuine question: do you think that the Mon - Weds dinners are ideal for a 7 yr old’s main meal of the day?

Salad with rice and potatoes one day, pasta with a jar of sauce the next, and eggs on toast for the third day doesn’t sound like well-balanced, nutritious meals for a young child.

No one is going to die from eating that, and certainly loads of kids will have worse. But while that might be reasonable for an adult, I don’t think that’s great for a young, growing child, especially as one of the other 4 meals is also a takeaway.

If someone came on here and asked whether those 3 meals were negligent, the answer would of course be no! They’re ok - but that’s it. Not ideal but they’ll do.

As an adult I regularly have poached eggs on toast and salad for dinner, but usually when I’ve eaten a heavier lunch. I definitely wouldn’t give that to a young child as their main meal of the day every week 😕

Yotoyoto · 11/05/2025 22:04

Just read the first 3 pages. Whose the fuck children eats raw cauliflower and chia seeds?

Maybe they eat a hot lunch at school and that is their main meal of the day?

I imagine on working days, especially if not getting home until 6, the priority is a quick dinner.

Mine does 🫣 Chia seeds are great in yogurt, if you soak them in water they become like jelly and are a good source of calcium. You can also sprinkle dry on cereal or in smoothies. If you put them in soil and they'll shoot sprouts which you can eat too in salads or sandwiches or make into a dinosaur jungle. Very cheap too.
