Seems like pretty much every poster and responder assumes everyone on here is from England.

When asking questions regarding schools, health care, tenancy etc surely it would be useful to say what country you live in since the rules and laws are different all over the UK/world.

You do know love islanders aren't chosen for their intellects right?

Theyre chosen for their good looks yes, but being good looking doesnt mean that you cant be brainy.

I remember they had a scientist on love island one year, and a doctor on it another year

Looking at my post above, I just realised thst i've left every apostrophe out, as when I use apostrophes it takes me ages to type things on my phone. I was just thinking, why do we still have so many apostrophes in the English language? The words make sense without them. I feel that we use more apostrophes than any other language!

quantumbutterfly · 11/05/2025 12:11

It's not as though they'll run out.

Did they realise Spain and England were separate entities? One would hope so.

Btw they're also chosen for their willingness to expose their flaws on TV. That's quite a particular demographic, not overly representative I think.

If they are clever, why do they go on to Love Island.

I'm with you on thinking Britain shouldn't become isolationist but it isn't England on its own that is heading that way.

To get exposure i guess.

The scientist who went on love island - she had a day job. But i think she also did social content on the side, and then she went on to write a book

Stacey Solomon's made a whole career out of those kinds of shows. She doesn't come over as stupid at all. Strategic, l'd say.

Edited

I dont think she was on love island? She was on X factor as a contestant

Needlenardlenoo · 11/05/2025 12:50

You're right, I've just corrected myself.

I don't watch them so can't tell the difference!

They did portray her as a stupid essex girl on x factor too. They often portrayed the frmale singers as totslly stupid. It wad quite sexist.

Yeah shes definitely intelligent

Come on @queenmeadhbh and others. MN was started in London, it’s a mostly English website. It’s not a surprise or a secret

I am aware of that. I expect the majority of posters to be in England. What I am commenting on is the tendency I notice for some English posters to presume everything everywhere is like England, which I not a tendency I notice in people from NI or Scotland.

The assumption that everyone would be talking about England on a 'British Website' unless otherwise stated.

That's not ignorant, it's purely a numbers game.

Besides so many posts these days are clearly AI generated. Yes mom is used by some regionally but Mum is the norm, yet mom pops up very very frequently. Not sure how many genuine posters be theycEnglish or not are left.
