AIBU to think a digital family diary should exist??

We are UK based. I've googled (most solutions are from US).

I know this is a first world problem. But due to overwhelm, I've not noted an important appointment in the paper calendar which means a hospital appointment was missed when I'm on a work trip.

We have shelves to take down and I would like to put in it's place an A1 type size digital calendar that can sync to multiple calendars on phones so both DH and I can add; a to do list and meal planning would be awesome too as functionality. I don't think I'm asking the world!

AIBU expecting this to exist? (YABU) Or am I on to something and should create a new business?? (YANBU)

Sorry it's late, my autistic child won't settle and I'm so overwhelmed trying to balance my list of things to do at home outwith my FT job and DH and I are worried about missing appointments again 😢

Should have said we use the premium version.

We use the TimeTree app as a family calendar on our phones - could that help? I've found things aren't passing me by as much as they used to since we started using it 🙂

Calmdownpeople · 09/05/2025 00:03

We use Skylight and I LOVE it.

DysmalRadius · 09/05/2025 00:03

I use FamCal which has different colours for everyone and space for additional information about events etc. I only use the calendar app, but there are shopping lists, to-do lists, recipes etc and birthday reminders. You can export stuff to print if you need a hard copy calendar.

Needspaceforlego · 09/05/2025 00:03

Google Family Link
We have a shared family calendar on our phones and the youngest tablet

Thank you for the suggestion. Would it sync yo something wall mounted? Even if just a computer screen or TV rather than anything more iPad like?

Our eldest has a medical condition and youngest has multiple medical appointments for autism and ADHD and I feel like I'm making myself unwell trying to stay on top of these, the house and a demanding job. 😢😢

You could repurpose Project Management stuff. Might be cheaper than something branded for families as well.

Needspaceforlego · 09/05/2025 05:16

Why do you want something wall mounted?
If you use a digital family calender then it's in your pocket and can give you reminders of who's where.

We use the Google calendar but I'm sure Apple can do the same.

PeloMom · 09/05/2025 05:19

We use the calendar in our iphones and to share shopping lists etc use notes ( we can share those too)

MoonOnStick · 09/05/2025 05:24

An Amazon Echo Show 15 will do this. Sync it to your Google calendars.

Same for meal planning etc.

A1 is a bit big though, you're talking a 33" screen.

MissIonX · 09/05/2025 06:53

Thanks all, that's really useful.

To answer the queries about wall mounted, we want to be able to add details from our phone and have the convenience of checking that on the go, but have then something we have as a visual reminder for both us and our children (moreso the eldest).

Lots of great ideas which I'm off to research today. Thank you

Google calendar works for us, plus a Sunday night family meeting to do a quick calendar run through to finalise logistics.

I also set 1 day and 1 hour reminders on key calendar events. Could you repurpose an old tablet (could buy secondhand) and just keep it open on the calendar? I’m not sure how you’d wall mount it, maybe a shelf with a stand for it?

PlumpAndPlain · 09/05/2025 07:02

I have Dakboard which does exactly what you describe - I love it!

DUsername · 09/05/2025 07:05

We use Family wall. It's got a meal planner and you can upload recipes and stuff too. It also has lists so you can do a shopping list or to do lists. A quick Google tells me that you can get it on a pc.

DorothyStorm · 09/05/2025 07:05

We have a family calendar on our iphones. Colour coded. I have:
my calendar
me and dh calendar
Me, dh and kids calendar
me and dp calendar

What you have is a being the default parent / adult problem.

We just use an echo show. Even audibly alerts you before and event. Just add stuff on through the phone and share the calendar event with everyone. Works really well.

Skyline has its own monitor which is why we got it :)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/05/2025 08:07

There are loads of shared calendar apps - we use Outlook on iPhones. So what you really want is a way of displaying this on the wall? Could you use a cheap tablet?

stupidarticle · 09/05/2025 08:10

We use the Echo Show 15 as well. It's smaller than A1 though (that's massive!). Also, it might be because we have an older version but it is a bit clunky - in reality we mainly use our phones rather than actually looking at the Echo Show.

I'd love a slim line version of an actual calendar that's digital, so watching to see if anyone has found one. Not apps, the device that the app displays on.

Ohthatsabitshit · 09/05/2025 08:12

I have a similar hellish calendar scheduling nightmare @MissIonX . It’s definitely the Dr/hospital/work/school combo that pushes it in to unmanageable. I think a calendar like you suggest would be really helpful. Could you perhaps use the TV and have it as a photo displayed? Or maybe an old phone with a projector onto the kitchen wall.
I use a combo of a paper wall calendar (free), calendar app, and a paper diary. It isn’t great. Reminders on the phone seem to work best but honestly we’re hanging on by our fingernails most of the time.

We have this, family planner on our phones which like to a wall mounted screen in the kitchen.

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/05/2025 08:15

What you’re looking for is the Skylight Family Calendar

stupidarticle · 09/05/2025 08:17

@Calmdownpeople Do you mean Skylight? And how responsive do you find it? Do you have the 15 inch or XL version? Looking online the display looks better than the Alexa Show I have. [I find 15 inch too small for a month display]

@MissIonX One thing to bear in mind if you want something wall mounted is that it will need to be plugged in (I haven't seen a rechargeable one, that would be great). We ended up with ours on the side because we don't have suitable wall space in our kitchen near a plug. That means it takes up counterspace, which isn't what I really want.
