Speed warning system intelligence driving me crazy

Has anyone bought a new car recently? The speed warning system sound every time we go a bit over 20 miles an hour is driving me crazy.

Haven’t figure it out how to switch off, but apparently we have to do it every time we get on the car.

Anyone else with similar experience?

At least thats only annoying you and others in your car. I get woken up every morning by the reversing car dings, of people in my street

You are a bit behind or you are wilfully ignoring the other commenters who have clearly explained that the system is not accurate and registers the wrong speed limit so pings off for whole stretches of road where the drivers not speeding

I’m not responding to that aspect, just @tamade ’s assertion that breaking a 20mph limit by a few miles isn’t a big deal.

They shouldn’t be sounding outside the car surely? I’ve only heard that from vans. My car dings inside if it’s close to something while reversing.

yep had same when had a courtesy car. i really wouldn’t have minded if it actually worked but as others have said it hardly ever got the speed limit right so was a distraction at best. why it’s become acceptable to roll out technology that is full of bugs that needs a update to fix is beyond me. it was relatively easy to turn off but had to be done each time. if had been my car i would have been tempted to take it back to garage and say it wasn’t working.

My dh's electric car beeps audibly when he's reversing into the drive. That's how we know he's home

Well it isn’t
Your statement that the introduction of 20mph speed limits in Wales is proof of that.
how, you ask?
Because I doubt that everyone in Wales is following the 20mph limit exactly and strictly, probably breaking it by one or two miles per hour - but still you say there’s data to show an improvement.
On the other hand British roads are pretty safe so you would need very good data to make a definitive statement like that without any kind of statement of uncertainty.

It drives me mad as it doesn’t work and changes speed limits in random areas! Like a 70mph zone it suddenly thinks is 40mph near me. It’s not! And the road that has changed from 30mph to 20mph, but it hasn’t realised. Oh, and telling me it’s 100mph speed limit on a motorway was a fun one! Obviously I know it’s not, but what Is that about?

The random breaking is a joy too. Clear road? Why not imagine a hazard and brake.

If people are going at 22 in a 20 they’d have been doing 33 in a 30. The policy has reduced deaths. It’s also reduced accidents and is causing insurance premiums to drop. This is by a pro 20mph group, but it’s all referenced with links to the data. https://www.20splenty.org/wales_1st_12_months#:~:text=Reducing%20the%20default%20speed%20limit%20on%20built%2Dup%20roads%20to,compared%20with%20the%20previous%20year.
