Why do people still keep creating more people what's that about

I mean I know it's not as bad as the before indoor plumbing times but we can't assume that will last long

I don't understand the impulse to make another soul experience this world

I always find it interesting when people question the point of having children or say they won't because of the state of the world, the environment or whatever.

But surely we all need babies to be born constantly otherwise who will be the Drs & nurses to care for us when we are 80/90? Who will produce the food we need to eat etc etc etc.

People often say it's selfish to have kids but isn't it selfish not to?

It depends how look at it right? Creating a new human life in for your sake/the sake of society could be seen as selfish - you are having them to be your caretaker or someone else's or else propagate a system many people see as corrupt not for that new human's own benefit. Just a few reasons some people might see it as selfish, especially if you are not able to take care of the child or give them equitable opportunities in the society you live in.

Yeah, it's not like men are driven to fuck anything that moves at all.

Exactly, men are mostly the reason we are all here, their sex drives. Which exist to procreate

Also the world would adapt to less people accordingly. Less people = less food needed, fewer doctors needed. It would only take a few generations to even out if people were having fewer babies

We do, but not as many as there are.

That’s such a bizarre leap to make. They’re not advocating anything, merely saying they find a particular POV weird. Besides, the opposite of procreating isn’t suicide. It’s not procreating. You’re reading your own preoccupations into this.

Like I said I've had this type of discussion before and it almost always ends up with people saying "if you don't understand people bringing kids into the world you know where the exit is"-I agree it's a bizarre leap and I'm shocked every time someone suggests it as like you say it doesn't even make sense. I think they think it's some sort of "gotcha" though. Anyway I apologise if that's not what the PP meant, just it usually is sadly.

Yeah but that's different than wanting babies which they often don't-just the sex.

OK here's how I interpreted it. The poster was saying "you've had the chance of life why do you think others shouldn't?" Or perhaps "do you think you shouldn't have been born?"

Certainly not advocating suicide! I've no idea where you got that from!

Yeah but why would it be odd to question it? And why would people who aren't even born need the chance to be alive? It's not like they're sitting there waiting to exist.

You know, the earth is a pretty nice place, all in all. There’s mountains and oceans and lakes and rivers and lions and birds and whales and dolphins and eagles and turtles and such magnificent beauty that I could cry describing it to you, @Fragmentedbrain
Why wouldn’t people want to procreate on such a beautiful planet with someone they love?
It’s nature. It’s beautiful. It’s natural.
It’s what we’re supposed to do.
I feel bad for anybody who thinks that should stop. I feel bad for you.

TipsyRaven247 · 05/05/2025 01:05

LOL, do you still believe babies are delivered by storks ?

What about all the extreme suffering? Is that just by the by? You don't think it deserves at least SOME consideration?

My family has a small vineyard.
We’re on our fifth generation of family - the sixth are little kids.
Our friends also have farms - small & large.
Where we live there’s a patchwork of agriculture and farms across quite a large area.
We feed a great deal of the US.
I doubt our area will be affected by “less people = less food needed.”
There will always be a lot of people on earth unless some catastrophic event occurs.
And I sincerely hope that never happens.
However, I heard that President Trump was mulling over the idea of giving women $5000USD for each baby born - because that more than makes up for the cost of raising a child lol.
So you may be right and in that case I apologise.

It's about the number of people though. The number of people is ruining all the natural beauty your describing with our need for housing and resources, our waste and plastic, our pollution

1457bloom · 05/05/2025 08:31

Our only purpose is to reproduce.

TweetingHurricane · 05/05/2025 09:57

But the only reason they have a drive to have sex is to have babies! Learn some biology! Men don’t have their sex drives just for fun.

Tummybanana · 05/05/2025 10:09

The world is beautiful. Life is incredible, even when it is a grind. Nurturing life is amazing.

I can understand any individual deciding not to reproduce. But it's such a shame if people lose their sense of wonder at the world. I get it when I see a sunset or walk in a bluebell wood or watch a beetle bumbling across the grass, or when my son is explaining some mathematical concept or other that is way beyond my capability, or when my autistic adult daughter calls me outside with such delight to show me a seed she planted is sprouting.

"With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."
