How long should two cleaners take to clean 4 bedroom house ?

it’s 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. How long would you expect this to take ? No tidying required but they do take out the bins.

Bathroom downstairs is just toilet and sink. And actually the family bathroom shower isn’t used, so they don’t clean that shower.

I would say 1.5-2.5 hours. I am a cleaner and it’s so difficult to pinpoint though as there are so many variables within a house - are you tidying as you go, is there a lot of glass/ornaments, how many floors to mop, inbuilt furniture etc to dust. Lots of big showers in the bathrooms? Some houses are just easier to clean than others due to what is in there, some depends on how much tidying and cleaning clients do in between etc.

springhassprun · 02/05/2025 11:24

2 hours if there are 2 of them. Possibly 1.5 hours if the house is very tidy.

LittleGreenDuck · 02/05/2025 11:24

I have two cleaners for two hours (so four working hours) every fortnight for a four bedroom, three bathroom house. We also have four reception rooms, plus kitchen of course.

They seem to do a good job in that time.

LittleGreenDuck · 02/05/2025 11:26

I do tidy before they come, so it's cleaning only.

andtheworldrollson · 02/05/2025 11:26

Depends on the state of the house and how you want it done

dishes still in the sink, skirtings and fridge and windows needing scrubbing and pet hair everywhere is different from a light dust and vaccum - me and dh can do our home ( a bit smaller ) in 30 to 45 mins

you can see it on here - some people spend all day Saturday cleaning and others not so much

quickwu · 02/05/2025 11:27

it’s a new build - no glass ornaments to dust. It’s quite minimalist and I tidy before they come. There is one shower to clean and one bath, as we don’t use the others.

i would say 2 hours - so 4 hours in total. my previous cleaners used to take about 1 hour and they did a shoddy basic job and i got rid of them. we also have 4 bed/3 bath. it needs 4 hours for a proper job.

Madickenxx · 02/05/2025 11:28

We have a large 3 bed with 3 bathrooms and pay for 4 hours. Our cleaner employs two ladies to help her so they are here for just over an hour (3.5 hours roughly in total given it's 3 of them) and that seems about right. We don't have a lot of ornament or stuff out so it's pretty easy to clean.

roses2 · 02/05/2025 11:35

I have a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house and my previous cleaner took 5 hours. She cleaned to a good thorough standard. No pets and no clutter.

WhenICalledYouLastNightFromTesco · 02/05/2025 11:48

I'm in awe of someone who can clean a whole house in 3 or 4 hours. Cleaning robs me of at least one weekend day every week, and that is just a superficial clean on a 2 bed semi 😭. I'm not a cleaner as you can probably imagine.

user1497787065 · 02/05/2025 11:54

I have a five bed, four bathroom house and I cannot imagine anyone being able to do a good clean in a few hours as MN always suggests. I think at least five hours is required to clean to a reasonable standard.

Broccoli456 · 02/05/2025 11:56

If it's a regular clean I think 1.5 - 2 hours is sufficient. That's 3-4 hours cleaning time, providing there's no tidying

minnienono · 02/05/2025 12:00

2 hours of the are vacuuming bedrooms as well, mine did 1.5 hours but didn’t enter the bedrooms and only one bathroom

quickwu · 02/05/2025 12:01

I used to have 1 cleaner who cleaned really well and it took her 4 hours to do. I think 2 hours should be more than enough if it’s the basics.

Tbrh · 02/05/2025 12:33

The first time will be longer, but after that I'd say 1.5hr tops. It really depends on how thoroughly they do it

"We don't use the others" doesn’t mean they don't need cleaning.

Have you taped off the doors (like a decorator) so no dust can get in? Dust on shower glass or a ceramic sink/toilet, ledges, taps, shelves, window cill or a floor needs cleaning off. Especially from grout spaces or you get stuff growing in it.

Calypsocuckoo · 02/05/2025 12:44

I have 2 cleaners for 2 hours each fortnight, 4 beds, 3 baths. They are very thorough and do a great job, kitchen, bathrooms cleaned, bins emptied and clean sheets on bed (I strip the old sheets and empty bathroom bins) dust, hoover and mop whole house.
I tidy before they come but they do fold blankets, chop cushions and make things look nice. They will rotate each visit around cleaning inside windows, cleaning blinds, skirting, deep clean of bathroom grouting so they get done once month/ two months. They know where they are up to and decide what to do each week, so if I am out for example they will give my office a good clean as I am often in there when they come, or when we have had guests they will give the guest rooms a good clean after.
they will also do anything else I ask, if I point it out like cobwebs on lights but that doesn’t happen often as they spot things and do them. The could probably do the basics in 1.5 hours but the extra means the other jobs like cleaning blinds get done every now and then which keeps it all looking nice.
they are brill, independent not from an agency which maybe makes a difference.

Velvetbee · 02/05/2025 12:48

Cleaner here. I do a 4 bed town house alone in 2 hours. One occupant and 2 dogs.

Sounds really good.

mine are complaining as they used to do 3 hours ( so 6 hours in total ). But I just don’t think it’s required for a basic clean.

if I ask them to do extra stuff ( like clean ALL the bathrooms top to bottom ) or clean the fridge or dust a cabinet, or put new sheets on the beds- then I think 3 hours is fair enough.

but the basic clean they do, should take 2 hours. Especially since I make sure it’s tidy before they come.

but every week they leave something undone, out of spite. Since I asked them to reduce it to two hours.

it’s annoying me. There are so many cleaners out there, I might find new ones.

Cleaner here , hard to say without seeing the property but I’d say 2 hours, if downstairs is all hard floors then these have to be hoovered then moped so that takes longer than just hoovering

MiddleAgedDread · 02/05/2025 13:00

are they coming every week? I can do 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and stairs - dusted, hoovered, mop kitchen floor, wipe down counter tops type clean in an hour if I put my mind to it and I don't do this for a living. 4 hours sounds generous to me. If they're coming weekly I'd expect that to be routine "maintenance" type cleaning and maybe one less frequent job every week.

This. I only have a two bed flat and every single Sunday I have a routine of cleaning and it takes me the entire day (granted I change bedding and do laundry too). A multi bedroom house, I assume with multiple bathrooms/toilets too clean - that is very time consuming.

TennesseeStella · 02/05/2025 13:05

You could always try cleaning your own house if you think the cleaners are too slow? See how long it takes you.

Well, other cleaners have not been as slow. They’re taking the piss. Time for new ones. So many cleaners are looking for work at the moment.
