How long should two cleaners take to clean 4 bedroom house ?

it’s 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. How long would you expect this to take ? No tidying required but they do take out the bins.

Same size and we get 3 hours a fortnight (so 1.5hour clean in total). New build, older children, well maintained. Bathrooms and kitchen are the priority, some things like blinds aren’t done every time (usually done on rotation instead).

Appleblum · 02/05/2025 13:49

2 to 3 hours.

bluebells1234 · 02/05/2025 13:52

My cleaners clean my 4 bed, 3 bath house in 5 hours. They could do longer in my eyes!

"We don't use the others" doesn’t mean they don't need cleaning.

Have you taped off the doors (like a decorator) so no dust can get in? Dust on shower glass or a ceramic sink/toilet, ledges, taps, shelves, window cill or a floor needs cleaning off. Especially from grout spaces or you get stuff growing in it.

I just told my cleaner they didn’t need to do those rooms. The minimal clean they need can be done very easily myself.

When we had a cleaner we had a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, though one bedroom was storage so she didn’t really go in there. No bins and I cleaned the toilets because I have weird hang ups about someone else cleaning my toilet.

Our cleaner did it by herself in 2 hours. But (a) she was absolutely superhuman and I don’t know how she did it, and (b) she wouldn’t necessarily clean the entire house every week, I’d prioritise certain things.

With 2 cleaners and slightly bigger house, plus bins, 1.5-2 hours.

Pigsears · 02/05/2025 14:15

3 hours. Depends what flooring, how 'new',

DeedlessIndeed · 02/05/2025 14:25

We have 4 bed, 3 bath, 3 reception room.

It's a period house so probably more dusty and maybe bigger rooms/ more finicky bits.

Takes our two lovely cleaners 2 hours weekly, however they don't do bins and it's more of a surface level clean.

SillyBilly1993 · 02/05/2025 14:51

YNBU.

We have a newbuild, four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Our cleaner does two hours a week - she alternates each week between doing upstairs and downstairs.

She doesn’t take the bins out or change bedding, but does sometimes do a special clean of the stairs, blinds, coffee machine, microwave etc.

You have essentially four hours of cleaning each week, it should be more than enough.

Depends on the state of the house and how you want it done

dishes still in the sink, skirtings and fridge and windows needing scrubbing and pet hair everywhere is different from a light dust and vaccum - me and dh can do our home ( a bit smaller ) in 30 to 45 mins

you can see it on here - some people spend all day Saturday cleaning and others not so much

Do you have rocket packs on your backs?

Tikeahulilly · 02/05/2025 14:54

We pay for 5hours (2 cleaners)

4 bed
3 bath
3 reception (one open plan large)

They are very good and wipe everything down to dry it in the bathroom and kitchen.

FinallyHere · 02/05/2025 14:58

the people who should be consulted are the people who are going to do the work, or whoever is responsible for managing the service. If you don’t agree with them, then indeed the relationship is not going to work out and is best terminated right away.

im not sure what anyone else’s opinion could possibly add

quickwu · 02/05/2025 11:27

it’s a new build - no glass ornaments to dust. It’s quite minimalist and I tidy before they come. There is one shower to clean and one bath, as we don’t use the others.

Probably 1.5 hours at most then, if not an hour. If it's already tidy and just cleaning and 2 of them it shouldn't take long really.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/05/2025 15:02

2 hours each is fine.

Neatusfreakus · 02/05/2025 15:03

I think 1.5h, 2h tops for two cleaners.

I also have 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. My cleaners work as a pair and do the house in 1.5h. I used to pay for 2h but they asked to reduce it as they were always done too quickly. They come every week and I’d say we are very minimalist and tidy, so it might take longer if they did it less often or had more “stuff” to clean!

Ruthietuthie · 02/05/2025 15:05

We have a large four bedroom, four bathroom house. It is tidy but old and gets dusty. We have eight cleaners who come for two hours, so 16 hours in total. They come once a fortnight. I wish they came weekly. I honestly couldn't see it getting done in less time.

Movinghouseatlast · 02/05/2025 15:06

2.5 hours, so 5 hours total.

Mine takes 4 hours to do 2 bed 2 bath. Kitchen, dining room, sitting room, hallway.

doodleschnoodle · 02/05/2025 15:06

When we had two, they came for an hour a week (4-bed house). Now one is on maternity leave so the other one comes for two hours a week. Seems enough for what needs to be done, I’m happy with it!

stayathomer · 02/05/2025 15:40

WhenICalledYouLastNightFromTesco

I'm in awe of someone who can clean a whole house in 3 or 4 hours. Cleaning robs me of at least one weekend day every week, and that is just a superficial clean on a 2 bed semi 😭. I'm not a cleaner as you can probably imagine.

4 hours today to tidy kitchen, tidy our bedroom, and two kids’ bedrooms, sitting room and sweep hall and bathroom, and wash and put out two lots of clothes. Didn’t get to mop floors and the house doesn’t particularly look like anything has been done a few hours later

CasperGutman · 02/05/2025 15:45

I'd guess about 2 hours for two people (so four person-hours total), for a regular 'maintenance' clean. Longer if there are extra deep cleaning tasks needed, obviously.
In terms of whether the cleaners are taking too long, I'd be more concerned with how much I'm paying that how long they're taking. If another cleaner can do the job in less time but charges a higher hourly rate then where's the benefit to me?

mathanxiety · 02/05/2025 15:47

@quickwu

"Out of spite"?

I think seeing malice in leaving something undone is uncalled for and a poor reflection on you.

People working as cleaners don't have to put up with that sort of attitude. There are plenty of others who value a clean house after all.

ParsnipPuree · 02/05/2025 15:57

Well I have a 6 bed house with bathrooms, current cleaner will only give me 5 hours and will do 3 bedrooms, gym and downstairs. I’ve just asked her to iron a couple of shirts if she has enough time and if looks could kill..

I think the answer is how deeply you want it done. Bathroom walls or just a quick whizz round? I would definitely say 1.5 hours is not enough if you want a proper job.

singlemum2025 · 02/05/2025 19:30

Where in uk are you happy to come and quote!

Workingonweekendssuck · 02/05/2025 19:36

I have a large 4 bed house and two cleaners get it done in 1.5hrs.

Poobs2022 · 02/05/2025 19:49

My cleaner does 3-3.5 hours. Usually 3 but if I ask her to do extra like all the blinds (there's loads of them) then she does 3.5. We used to have 2 cleaners do it in 1.5 hours. Same as you - new build 4 bed, 3 bathroom.

quickwu · 02/05/2025 19:55

It’s not on to just leave things undone, more and more. They were pissed off when I said, let’s move it to 2 hours. They were doing 3 hours for over a year and I just didn’t find it was really any better than since I’ve moved them to 2 hours. I knew it would be like that, which is why I changed it. It shouldn’t take 3 hours, for what they do. It takes 3 hours for a deeper clean, which they don’t need to do every week. But for 2 hours I just expect the basics. My last cleaner did it on her own in 4 hours.

the least they could do is say sorry we didn’t manage to do XYZ today because ABC took longer as it was particularly dirty or something.

a quick text would have sufficed, but they don’t do that. They just leave and don’t say anything.

not cool.
so many cleaners around, these two are not special. I’ll replace them in a second and they’ll also replace me in a second. There are so many cleaners around here and so many people looking for cleaners. It won’t be hard for either party to replace the other.

it is what it is. Thanks for everyone’s opinions.
