A woman frequently walks around, and if she spots anything left outside someone's house that's clearly meant to be free, she takes a picture and posts it on Facebook to "advertise" it. Several of us have already asked her to please stop doing this, but she hasn't. What do we do?!

Tell that to the angry bloke she once reserved an item for, who banged on my door and screamed at me for "wasting his time"

Do I still have to put up with that, because after all, no one knows who's house it is.

That seems like information that would have been in your op, if it were true.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/05/2025 11:37

She's allowed ti take photos and post them. Your options are to accept it or don't leave stuff out.

Ylylyll · 01/05/2025 11:37

Take stuff to the charity shop then and stop dumping it outside? How often are you doing this it’s become a problem??

I find that hard to believe and if it's true you just drip fed because you didn't mention that. Putting items outside even with all good intentions is classed as fly tipping, anyway. If you're not happy, go to the charity shop, sell it or take it the tip. Problem solved.

Drip feed-tastic.

bigboykitty · 01/05/2025 11:39

It's ridiculous behaviour, OP, but I think you'll have to find another way to give stuff away, because she's not going to stop, although it's massively inappropriate.

Buitenlander · 01/05/2025 11:40

Oh no, the cardinal sin! Drip feeding! Sorry I didn't add every single piece of info. I thought this was a forum, you're supposed to converse

MissUltraViolet · 01/05/2025 11:40

So take the stuff to the tip, take it to a charity shop or list it on marketplace/local free group so you can tell whoever wants it your address in a private message.

How is this even an issue? You can stop it happening, easily.

Buitenlander · 01/05/2025 11:41

We don't have tips where I live.

Not when it's an essential part that could change the outcome. But if it was true you would have written it in your OP, no doubt.

Buitenlander · 01/05/2025 11:44

Sure, sure.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/05/2025 11:45

You can't stop her from stating there is an abandoned hoover or whatever in the street outside x house. Anyone who's walking past can see it's there, and the fact the house actually exists is public knowledge. It's a postal address file.
She's not saying your name or any other personal details?

I guess just put the stuff not directly outside your own property?

How often does it happen? Maybe more people are doing it as her posts are getting stuff shifted quickly?

I can't say I'd be that bothered and if I was then I'd stop dumping things outside.

user3879208717 · 01/05/2025 11:27

Follow her home, then take the tat you’re giving away and dump outside her house?

read that too quickly... "follow her home and dump outside her house"

cramptramp · 01/05/2025 11:46

Follow her home and take a photo of her house. Post it on numerous fb pages. Or put stuff you want rid of outside her house.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/05/2025 11:46

Buitenlander · 01/05/2025 11:41

Nonsense.

Veryverycalmnow · 01/05/2025 11:50

I agree with others that if you're bothered you should take the item to a charity shop. If things are frequently left outside houses for people to take she might be wanting to speed up the collection of items to stop it looking messy and cluttered or maybe she does seem a bit odd and this has become her hobby but it's pretty harmless.

Strangeworldtoday · 01/05/2025 11:50

Just don't leave stuff out. How much stuff is left out in your street every day that this id a problem. Maybe she doesnt like the street looking like the local tip and wants to do thisbto ensure it is cleared quickly. I wouldnt like this either tbh. If someone puts stuff out round here they always post it on the local group to ensure it is cleared quickly and its very few and far between. Not every day.

KarmenPQZ · 01/05/2025 11:50

Just put your stuff on a bit of pavement away from your house? We have a spot at the end of the road where people put this stuff.

or post a pic of it to the Facebook page and say ‘DM for collection details’

people are allowed to take photos of houses.

BeRoseSloth · 01/05/2025 11:51

Buitenlander · 01/05/2025 11:29

It really is! She's TAKING PHOTOS OF OUR HOMES!!

You can take photos of anything you can see from a public area. Do you expect people to close their eyes as they walk past your house?

KarmenPQZ · 01/05/2025 11:51

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/05/2025 11:46

Nonsense.

Agree. I do think councils have to provide something

Digdongdoo · 01/05/2025 11:52

If you're leaving stuff on the street often enough for this to annoy you, you are the problem. Take your old shit to the charity shop instead of dumping it on the pavement.

Yes, and people are conversing. Hence all the posts to which you have been replying. Is that not a conversation? Or did you mean people are supposed to agree with you?

Anyway, your shouts, and this bloke who screamed at you... Sounds pretty loud round your way.

Yes. That didnt happen.

EnhancedVampireEyeballs · 01/05/2025 11:56

Oh and anyone can take photos of your house. Why on earth would you think they shouldn't? Everyone who walks past it can also see your address, oh the horror.
