Saggy and scarless or pert with scars

I don’t know anyone irl who has had a breast uplift. I’m currently a 32GG. I could lose a bit of weight but not enough to affect my breasts. I cannot leave the house without a bra. I’ve had spinal surgery and they put great strain on my back. They point south and are not far from my belly button. But, the worst part is in this warm weather, it’s horrid but the sweat that comes from underneath. I feel awful. However, I think what upset me is I confided in my mum and a friend i wanted to have a reduction and uplift, and they just went on about how badly scarred I’d be and that would be worse than the position I’m in now.

If anyone has had one could you tell me the pros and cons please.

It sounds to me as though any scarring would be worth it.

Mistyglade · 01/05/2025 00:21

I don’t think you’d be ‘badly scarred’. Ok yes initially until it’s healed it might be a bit red. My friend had a reduction years while ago and has no visible scars. I had open heart surgery in my 30s so have an unsightly scar with an unsightly piece of tissue at the top, it’s only a body. If you want surgery because it’s causing you serious discomfort you should do what you want to do.

I’ve had spinal surgery and it goes all the way up my half of my back and you can barely see that now. I think it has upset me that their reactions were negative when I suggested this was something I wanted. They spoke like the scars were something shameful.

When it gets warmer like it is now, instead of enjoying this weather, I dread it. I dream od being braless under a dress and carefree

The scars will be absolutely worth it to not have to deal with the discomfort of your current breasts. The lightness and perkiness in clothes would far outweigh the minor scarring that will only be visible when naked.

Having said that, it’s really insensitive of your mum to talk about scars as something to be ashamed about given that you already have surgery scars. Do whatever will make you feel better. 💐

StrongerEveryDay · 01/05/2025 00:41

I had a breast reduction years ago after suffering like you. Best thing I ever did. The scars are hardly noticeable and surgery techniques have probably improved since I was in my 20s. Honestly, it was the BEST thing I’ve ever done to improve my life!

No more back pain, no more accidentally knocking things off of store shelves, no more men talking to my chest, no more never finding clothes that fit properly. I cannot recommend it enough.

Mum's can be weird at times...

When I had my laparoscopy, they surgeon went through my navel. Mum asked to see the stitches, then: "You'll never be able to wear a bikini!"

"I'll not be wearing a bikini anyway, Mum!"

IMO my belly button looks perfectly fine now.

My mum had a hysterectomy where she was cut from one hip to the other. A friend said to her what will your husband think, so I think the shame of scars was put onto my mum and she is worrying for me. It’s quite said that scars are seen as something bad.

You’ll have scars (as you would from any surgery) but they’re unlikely to be severe and will fade over time. I would absolutely have the surgery.

Oldwomanwithperkybosoms · 01/05/2025 00:56

My reduction/uplift was done privately as I was too impatient to wait for the NHS op which was offered to me but not deemed urgent so I was way down the list. This was several decades ago in the early 80s. Fantastic results and though pain and numbness for several months post op I was delighted with smaller and firmer breasts so well worth it. As for scarring it was/is anchor shaped and for the most part is underneath the breast so not as bad as one may imagine but has taken many years to fade and smooth out. It's never bothered me.

Current methods and surgery procedures may be very different to when mine were done.

I think, in your position, the impact on spinal health would make my mind up.

This.

Violashifts · 01/05/2025 01:05

I understand what you are saying. But I think from what you are saying it would be of benefit. Breast scars aren't that bad and you are actually suffering.
Now if you said you had a bit of loose skin on your stomach vs the tummy tuck scar. I would think differently. Again unless was so bad caused rashes etc Though I guess the scars do fade in time.

Oldwomanwithperkybosoms · 01/05/2025 01:15

A couple of points (no pun intended 😁) mine was before I had children. I was told it could affect the ability to breastfeed due to the nipple realignment and how that's done etc. Correct. 8 years later my babies were had to be bottle fed from birth and despite some milk getting through it was nowhere near enough to sustain them.

My surgeon warned me that my breast size could gradually increase again in future and they did but not to the size pre op. No complaints from me

I think I’ve lived like this for so long it’s something I’ve just put up with instead of really thinking about the daily suffering that could end with an operation. It does seem like big surgery but nowhere near as bad as spinal surgery. I think I’d qualify on the nah with my bmi and size but I’m lucky that I have the finances to fund it myself so could pick a surgeon. I think I should go ahead and then I could actually enjoy next summer instead of being in sweaty discomfort, carrying around these things. I dread to think what they weigh and I’m probably lose half a stone getting rid of them. M&S have ceased doing online orders and I was so embarrassed having to go in store to ask for bras in my size. There was a small section compared to the 99% of choice in a smaller size

@Oldwomanwithperkybosoms your username is encouraging as clearly you were happy with the results. I do feel youngish to be having it done, I imagined more late 40’s to have it - I am 34. And apart of me is really sad as they were one of my good features. They used to be a DD a high up. At the size they are now though there is nothing attractive about them anymore

That’s so encouraging to hear!! Men do talk to my chest but it makes me cringe as I think god you haven’t seen them without a bra. Glad you were so happy with the results. I forgot who I was listening to but they were saying a lot of the scarring is down to your surgeon

I was a lot younger than you are now! My boobs grew big from age 18 and by the time I was early 20s I hated them. The sheer size and fullness of them meant gravity took over 🫤 and I wasn't prepared to endure heavy pendulous boobs for the rest of my life.

StrongerEveryDay · 01/05/2025 01:37

Even if I’d been told the scars would be bad, I still would have done it. I was having so much back pain and shoulder pain where my extra thick bra straps dug in. Having my nipples no longer pointing at the ground on breasts that hung down to my waist - honestly I would happily have dealt with any amount of scars to change that. And trying to exercise! Not being able to find a sports bra that could come close to containing them! My scars were minimal and now almost unnoticeable. Well worth it, you won’t be sorry.

Lavenderandbrown · 01/05/2025 01:40

I had breast reduction in the USA I have “anchor scars”. A straight line down from nipple to underside of breast then side to side. I went from 32 ddd or g to 32 d The plan was a “c” but I guess my boobs want to be bigger🤣 It’s not a huge visible difference to others but my breasts are so much more manageable and comfortable and bra/ bathing suit/ clothes shopping is so much easier. My breast were very nice for a long time due to my diligence with bra wearing but they simply dropped in my mid 50s. My scars are barely visible even naked. I went shopping on my way home from surgery and my recovery was effortless and uneventful. It’s 16 months ago now and I barely remember my old breasts! I have to look at the pictures to remember. I was encouraged by a much older family friend to do it “while you’re young” so I did and I’m very glad. My female surgeon said my natural breasts were simply oversized for my petite frame and always out of proportion thus the neck and back discomfort. The scars are nothing I wouldn’t let that hold you back

Everything you are saying is making me realise this op is the only way for all of these struggles to end. Definitely relate to the bra straps being x3 bigger than smaller sizes and digging in so much. The fact I have to lift them up to wash and I never fake tan anymore as it was just such a performance. Can you get away with no bra now? I’ve got such a hatred of the discomfort of bras I literally dream about not having to wear one

Don’t let them get to you. Our scars aren’t shameful unlike their opinions.

StrongerEveryDay · 01/05/2025 01:56

when I first had it done, I could go braless and it felt like freedom! After three children and menopause weight gain, I now am a D. I probably could go braless but prefer not to. I asked to go down to an A or B cup but the plastic surgeon wouldn’t go smaller than a C. At the time a C still sounded like heaven so I didn’t fuss much about it. If I was having it done now, I would insist on going smaller. I am losing weight and hope to get back to a C at some point soon. I’m now nearly 60 and have some age related sagging but nothing horrible and my nipples still point in the right direction. If money were no object I’d have another reduction, down to an A and never wear a bra again!

Oh now I want to start saving up…. ☺️
