People visit beaches on warm days - crowds, hell

TunaMayoP · 30/04/2025 20:12

Never understood this thing when we have warm weather, people think “ooh let’s go to the seaside”.

Roads get clogged, parking is a struggle, massive queues to buy ice cream, food and to
use what few toilets the beach has and super crowded. This is my hell.

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 30/04/2025 20:13

So don’t go?

Jc2001 · 30/04/2025 20:13

Not my idea of fun but people obviously think it's worth the hassle for a day by the sea with the kids.

andtheworldrollson · 30/04/2025 20:14

Going to the wrong beach then

ItsCalledAConversation · 30/04/2025 20:14

Most people don’t have much choice. Annual leave of 20 days a year, about 2 of which are sunny. You takes your chances when you can. Grab life!

CatamaranViper · 30/04/2025 20:15

Yeah that sounds nothing like my local beaches

MereNoelle · 30/04/2025 20:15

Because who wants to go to the seaside in shit weather?

CaptainFuture · 30/04/2025 20:15

Don't go then? My personal hell would be something like ibiza party boat foam party... so I don't go!

Endofdaya · 30/04/2025 20:15

Do you live near a beach? I did and it got crowded as you say but I knew I didn’t own the beach

RabbitsRock · 30/04/2025 20:18

Lucky enough to live in Cornwall so am able to beat the crowds at certain times of the year. I actually tend not to go to the beach very much & got put off swimming last summer because of all the sewage being dumped in the sea, although I’ve been recommended a clean place to go which is very close by & beautiful too.

Eminybob · 30/04/2025 20:22

You don’t understand why people want to go to the beach when it’s sunny?

If you don’t want to, that’s fine, go when it’s lashing down if you prefer, I imagine it’s much quieter.

MissAmbrosia · 30/04/2025 20:23

Are you saying you can't understand why people go to the beach when the weather is nice?

LoveWine123 · 30/04/2025 20:24

You sound like so much fun.

JackieDaytonaLuckyBrews · 30/04/2025 20:24

That's absolutely fine.
Others obviously really like it, so great. Sun, sea breeze, picnic-I can think of worse things. I don't recognise the description of the beaches that we go to.

ChopstickNovice · 30/04/2025 20:25

People want to do things when it's sunny! What would you suggest?

nomas · 30/04/2025 20:27

I love beaches. I don’t drink or like to eat out but I do like to travel to a beautiful beach, even if it’s a 3 hour drive. We set off at 7am and by the time we come home, we’ve had a lovely time.

Chocolate85 · 30/04/2025 20:27

As a Londoner I’m used to crowds and congested roads so that wouldn’t put me off a beach day. Some of us don’t get to do it often so of course we’re going to pick the (rare) sunny day.

EwwSprouts · 30/04/2025 20:33

It sounds as if your experience is limited to a few beaches whether in the UK or abroad. If you walk along the beach more than 100 yards from the car park then, on our nearest beach, we have plenty of space between people to comfortably play ball games. We were holidaying in Northumberland when the UK had 40 degs (three/four years ago?) and there was still only one row of people along the beach. Maybe 20 of us in the sea below gorgeous Bamburgh Castle. West Wittering a year later was sardines. All about good choices!

rosegoldwatcher · 30/04/2025 20:33

This thread made me recall the ridiculous statement, "(this place) would be more popular if it was less busy."

Is a beach more beautiful if no-one is there to see it?

ArminTamzerian · 30/04/2025 20:41

MereNoelle · 30/04/2025 20:15

Because who wants to go to the seaside in shit weather?

Lots of us. Those of us who live by the beach are there in all weathers.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 30/04/2025 20:41

It is weird isn't it, the sun comes out and everyone thinks "ooh, a lovely day by the sea, with an ice cream"
I've never understood why people don't go "ooh! 7 degrees and drizzly! grab your togs kids, we're off to the beach!"

Honestly, what a stupid thought. no one is telling you to go to the beach, if its your idea of hell then stay home...mind blowing I know

Livelovebehappy · 30/04/2025 20:42

Agree OP. I see pictures on the news/social media of people crammed shoulder to shoulder on the beach and it looks to be my idea of hell. But clearly some enjoy it - different strokes for different folks and all that…..

MereNoelle · 30/04/2025 20:45

ArminTamzerian · 30/04/2025 20:41

Lots of us. Those of us who live by the beach are there in all weathers.

Those of us who live 2.5 hours from the beach probably wouldn’t choose a really shit day to make the rare journey.

YourAzureScroller · 30/04/2025 20:47

I live a few minutes walk from several lovley beaches
We never go on the really hot days maybe only twice a year as it's always too busy for us
Dps family are found on the beach after work/school almost every day of the summer
To each their own

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 30/04/2025 20:47

Walk 5 minutes along the path at any of our beaches and you have miles of glorious beach all to yourself......People are lazy and tend to congregate nearest the carpark.

Livelovebehappy · 30/04/2025 20:48

MissAmbrosia · 30/04/2025 20:23

Are you saying you can't understand why people go to the beach when the weather is nice?

That’s what I’m saying, even if OP isn’t. Because everyone else goes, the traffic is mad, the beaches are packed, you have to queue an hour for an ice cream. So it’s pretty easy to see why it’s not for everyone. I would never go to the seaside on a sunny Bank holiday. And to be honest I just don’t get why others would given what I’ve said above.
