I found this on an Ealing Borough website, but probably applies throughout the country:

"Help for students
If you are a parent who wants to study or train, you may be able to get help paying for childcare while you study. The government provides colleges and universities with Access funds to help students on benefits and low incomes to participate in learning.

For more information, contact your college or university. Some colleges and universities provide childcare schemes aimed at students on their premises.

If you are in higher education you may qualify for a student loan and/or help with paying your tuition fees. There is also an additional Parents Learning Allowance and a grant for childcare costs.

The application process for fees and loans is undertaken in two parts, eligibility and financial assessment."

Some useful links about funding for students on this Uni of Wolverhampton page.

They may have an access course you could start with. Shall continue searching...

This is probably what you need to do first of all. It will give you confidence in yourself again, and maybe give you some pointers about what to do next.

TheWiltedRose · 18/05/2008 12:46

Thank you for talking to me duchesse. Appreciate it

I just remember so well the feelings of desperation. I just want you to feel that there are ways out of it, even though the sky seems awfully low at the moment.

this course looks like you'd find a good job after as there are work placements courses.wlv.ac.uk/Course.asp?menu=2&id=11669&type=1 (hope you don't mind me suggesting this)

It's great you're so young and have two kids and you want to study.

cupsoftea · 18/05/2008 16:25

also sorry you're not feeling well. I'm on my n'th cup of tea to keep myself going! feel like my head could hit the keyboard! 2 kids playing & 3 asleep. I should wake them otherwise it'll be a bedtime diaster.

cupsoftea · 18/05/2008 16:28

oh just spotted that there's an open day www.wlv.ac.uk/Default.aspx?page=17230

Nemoandthefishes · 19/05/2008 10:38

do you have a homestart in your area at all??
they have done wonders for me and since joining them they have put me on courses while providing childcare etc and also put me in touch with other groups. I also have a fantastic group of friends from the various courses where before I sat in looking at 4 walls.
