I was in blackout and parents haven’t even texted me

I live in one of the countries where there was a power cut, it was frightening at the time and still feels a bit unsettling. My parents haven’t even WhatsApped us to see how we are (they still live in the U.K.)

Is this normal?

Good to see that the thread is sinking to new depths with misogynistic and belittling name calling because you disagree with the OP @Shotokan101

Although, seeing as you have made up stuff about the OP's position (she wasn't whining and is not over-entitled to ask the question about whether it's normal for her parents not to have contacted her) it's not actually a disagreement, it's just being nasty for the sake of it.

It sounds like you're suffering PTS . Do you need some cognitive therapy to help you through this? It was an awful experience for you I don't think I could of coped but you are a strong person and with the right help you can get over your bloody self!

Ooh, and some piss taking about PTSD and therapy. Nice work @Braygirlnow , hope this makes you feel good about yourself.

MaxandMoritz · 02/05/2025 07:56

I don’t always listen to or watch the news but I do always at least check the bbc website.
It was the top news item there and I checked back regularly mainly to find out if it was a cyber attack. It was such an unusual occurrence and very worrying when they didn’t know when things would get back to normal.
I’m sure there was a thread about it quite quickly on MN too.
The tv and news must have had very different priorities if it wasn’t featured prominently.

The people who are STILL not getting it after it being explained to them several times are either completely on the wind up…or as thick as pig shit, it’s shocking

Charming!

Oh dear, did I upset your sensitive feelings? I do apologise and am really sorry , I do understand how utterly fragile some people are. Hope you have a nice day, try cracking a smile, it helps you know.

You sound like a right arsehole 😂

That's a clever response, well done.

crumblingschools · 02/05/2025 08:49

@Braygirlnow do you think your responses are clever? Are they something you would say to a person in real life? Because if someone said things like that to me or someone I knew I would probably call you an arsehole too (and I rarely use terms like that). You can disagree with the OP and others without being so rude

MereNoelle · 02/05/2025 08:52

But she cracked a smile?!

Srsly though, If you're going to wade in with your ignorant and spiteful comments, you're going to get called out.

You were being a complete arsehole.

What is wrong with you?

Boredom and lack of fulfilment in their lives, I reckon.

Live in Portugal. We lost power and water for about 12 hours. That in itself was not so bad but 2 hours in to the outage we lost all internet and mobile phones went to emergency calls only mode. Difficult to say exactly how it makes you feel, not frightened exactly but without being able to find out what is going on, you can't help but feel anxious.

Before we lost communication it was main breaking news item on BBC. No message from my Mother either but she has unfortunately become increasingly self absorbed in her eighties, so my expectations were not high.

I'm thinking of buying a battery operated radio!

We are in Spain and did have intermittent mobile data. Next door neighbour had a radio and later we found one in the attic. We are going to slowly get some bits together for the future, like solar charger, camping gas, stash of cash.

Er because there was no Internet or phone signal so she couldn't...? Have you even read the thread?

Shotokan101 · 02/05/2025 11:55

BitOutOfPractice · 02/05/2025 06:01

What a really nasty comment.

She did text. When phone signal was restored next day. All phone systems were down. Why don’t you even read the OP’s comments before you start WTFing her?

Edited

She didn't, as far as my original and recent reading of her messages came see, looks more like she poted her little lip until her mum "eventually broke down" and sent her a WhatsApp message....... 🤣🤣🤣

Shotokan101 · 02/05/2025 11:58

.....and there we have it " The 'M' Word" 🤣

crumblingschools · 02/05/2025 12:25

@Shotokan101 your post was deleted for a reason, and you did use a misogynistic term

notadrift · 02/05/2025 13:07

I have power cuts all the time. No internet frequently (especially during the recent storms and people who died in Valencia, cars washed away etc.)

This was not that. It was very odd indeed and very frightening.

Thank God my DC were not at school that day. Because I do not now how I would have got them back. Thank God I have a gas hob and cash.

This morning, my supermarket delivery included lots of candles, matches and a stock of stuff I would not normally buy.

As it was deleted without any notification then I can't check it's content - but in any case that doesn't automatically negate the content - "Duh"......

crumblingschools · 02/05/2025 14:18

@Shotokan101 so you are agreeing you are a misogynist

YANBU
The massive power outage in Spain, Portugal and parts of France was all over the news.
What has astonished me on this thread is the number of people who don't watch or even follow the news, and weren't even aware of it on SM. WTAF??!!

Oldwmn · 02/05/2025 14:36

TheNewSchmoo · 29/04/2025 23:10

I think you are being dramatic. It was an extended power cut.

Quite a lot of the news reports made it sound like the End of Days! If one of my relatives were in this situation, I'd want to know how they were getting on with it!

Half of them claim to follow the news though!
