It's a May bug

TranceNation · 29/04/2025 21:03

It's in the garden in it's natural habitat. It's not invaded your home. Just let it be.

HarpSnail · 29/04/2025 21:03

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 29/04/2025 21:02

That's a Deadly Sting Bastard. Get out of there and don't look back. It's probably already too late.

It’s already eaten her, alas.

butterfly0404 · 29/04/2025 21:03

It's nature, naturing.....

TasWair · 29/04/2025 21:04

These are harmless but SO LOUD! I woke up when one had flown into the next room, I thought someone had started drilling!

ejmog · 29/04/2025 21:04

They are not dangerous but really cool even though annoying go google them

I love maybugs! Absolutely harmless and actually have beautiful "eyelashes" (as DD used to say when she was little).

They are so cute aren't they?

@Helppooo Google may bugs, you might appreciate your little visitor rather than fear them. Not as common as they used to be.

Scousemousey · 29/04/2025 21:04

It's a ginormous shiny bug!

BumbleBeegu · 29/04/2025 21:06

Awww a May Bug! I used to live in Germany where they are prolific. My patio doors used to be covered in them…they make quite a crash when they hurtle into the glass 😆

I’ve never actually seen on here though. Maybe they don’t like the damp Lincolnshire weather 🤣

Sminty2 · 29/04/2025 21:10

It’s a common Cockchafer, or Maybug. They are completely harmless to you, your pets and your garden. Please don’t hurt it.

They have terrible eyesight and make quite a bit of noise when they fly but absolutely harmless. It will fly off and not return. You should be happy to see it, they are increasingly rare.

TeatimeForTheSoul · 29/04/2025 21:14

What a beautiful beetle

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/04/2025 21:15

Maybug / cockchafer no need to panic they’re beautiful

Tortielady · 29/04/2025 21:22

It's quite a nice little critter.

Answeringaquestiontonight · 29/04/2025 21:27

Get the seek app. It’s good for identifying plants, bugs etc (if they stay still long enough)

BoredZelda · 29/04/2025 21:28

Namechangetheyarewatching · 29/04/2025 20:56

Omg it's a beatle! Stand down, we don't have dangerous things really

It’s having a Hard Day’s Night.

thinktwice36 · 29/04/2025 21:29

May bug otherwise known as a cockchafer

MsAmerica · 29/04/2025 21:29

And you're asking here - instead of looking for a garden forum or an entomology expert?

Phoebepeeby · 29/04/2025 21:29

May bug, they’re quite scary looking and would probably eat any local kittens.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/04/2025 21:30

That's a nice looking wee beastie.

Marzipanface · 29/04/2025 21:31

May bug/June bug. They are useless at flying and sound like small helicopters. It won't hurt you.

Plenty of knowledgeable folk on MN!

YorkiePud25 · 29/04/2025 20:56

Google says may bug, absolutely harmless

If it’s a may bug, listen for their noise…we used to call them farty bugs when kids…hilarious…please just let it get on with it’s business ( just flying farting and mating 🤣🤣🤣🤣)

rosydreams · 29/04/2025 21:33

hahaha if you think that bad you would have run screaming if you attended our bbq. One time we had a BBQ and we were all having drinks as the sun set and a sodding swarm flew out the hedge .That was a fun ending to that bbq lol

nomas · 29/04/2025 21:36

That’s piddling. We had such a big stag beetle in our bedroom (London suburb) that I thought it was a bat!

After it left, I felt lucky to have had one so close.
