Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

Some personal photographs of me by my landlady.

My suitcase looked as if someone had tampered with the lock and my photos were missing. I often saw her just watching the house and she would pop round at odd hours and seemed over friendly. She said she had kept every note I'd ever left her and my voice messages, which seemed weird. Once said 'I want to be you'.

The sheet off my bed when I got burgled.

police said it would have been to wrap the computer in.

LostittoBostik · 16/11/2025 08:32

A neighbour in my area has a fig tree and someone drove up, parked, climbed the tree, picked them all and drove off.

LostittoBostik · 16/11/2025 08:34

@IntelCoreStrengthWHY are you still friends with her?! I know it’s only a few quid but that would be enough to kill it for me… Awful.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 16/11/2025 08:34

A pair of wellies from my boot, left open as I dropped crates at the food bank

CherryRipe1 · 16/11/2025 08:37

Yesterday a thief stole my prescription painkillers from my shopping trolley in Lidl as our local store make you leave trollies at the store front due to shoplifting. Lesson learned not to leave anything in the trolley.

This still puzzles me nearly 30 years later. A tent pole from an A frame tent- whilst we were sleeping in it! The tent fell around us and we had to spend the night in the car.
I was a student and had borrowed the tent from family friends, had to get a replacement pole especially made.

We were burgled just before we went on holiday, and they took my empty cabin bag. Presumably for the same reason.

DelilahBucket · 16/11/2025 08:41

I own a shop and someone took a bracelet out of an organza bag and just stole the bag. You can buy 100 of these bags for £3.99 on Amazon. Baffling.

Mama2many73 · 16/11/2025 08:41

A hoover, at tge time top of the range Dyson. Snook in through the back door but our kids were playing in the back street so really bloody cheeky!
Had to report to get a crime number for the insutance and when we were talking to the police he said he has a 6ft secure fence all round his garden, no gates. Someone had stolen his garden bench, which was also secured with big bolts into the concrete and had then lifted it over the fence and carried it off without anyone seeing!

I think you mean @StrawberryWater - I am curious to know the same thing though!

Printer toner, but not the printer 🤔

Not surprising given the cost of toner!

I know this is a resurrected thread but I think I might win.

My central heating was stolen.

Someone stole my gs1s yellow toy tractor and trailer complete with stones in the trailer. It was driven onto the nearby main road and thrown from the car at around 1 am. The noise woke me and security lights came on. But in return they left me a dead rabbit in the porch. It was still warm and in a tesco carrier bag.

My v wealthy neighbour used to steal my green bins til.I had none. He had huge security gates and I could see them with my house name on them. Just why.

Solmum1964 · 01/05/2025 16:33

My son's bins have been targetted multiple times when he's not been around to bring them in immediately after emptying.
The local authority has replaced them FOC several times but he's just had to pay to replace one.

This happens a lot in my daughter's area. If you paint an address on the bin it gets nicked anyhow as the thieves remove it with paint stripper. Recently we have used a soldering iron to engrave her address deeply into the plastic which has deterred the thieves so far.

At school in the late 90s I had my entire backpack nicked!
I'd been in the library one lunch time and the rule was that we had to leave our bags by the entrance. I went to collect mine, and it was gone.
About 3 days later it was "found" shoved in a locker in a classroom a few doors down from my form room. I'd had £15 in there, which was gone (quite a lot of money to 14yo me in those days!), and worse, my two tamagotchis!!

About a year later, a "friend" of mine hide my bag in the toilets after we'd had an argument. I knew about it right away, as I'd been IN the toilets when I heard her come in with another girl and recognised her voice. And there was my bag in the next cubicle. "Friend" hadn't know I was in there. I confronted her and she did apologize, but it reminded me of the stolen bag incident of the year before... I had no proof, but I suspect she was involved.

My clothes by a cleaner. It was years ago (I posted about it in here) she said to me ‘oh if you can’t find anything it’s just I’ve tried to put bits away for you’ and then I kept losing items of clothing was a bit confused. Saw her one day out and about and she looked so anxious and was acting really weird ? I was rushing and couldn’t put my finger on it then it dawned on me she was wearing a full outfit of my clothes ! I text her and said ‘by the way I liked your cardigan where’s that from?’ She lied so I said please drop my keys back asap. She didn’t respond so I changed the locks.

Dogpawsandcatwhiskers · 16/11/2025 13:13

Late MiL lived in a corner house with a tallish shrubby hedge round the perimeter of her garden where she had one of those whirlygig washing lines. Some guy climbed through the hedge and stole all her clean pants off the line. They were comfy pants, not wispy thongs either. The culprit was caught after targeting several local washing lines and the evidence found in his flat 🤮

😂🤣. My boiler was stolen before I moved into my house when it was vacant. I think ££ for scrap value or reselling.

CatamaranViper · 16/11/2025 15:15

I had this really pretentious trilby hat that I absolutely loved. In hindsight, I looked like a prat. I took it off for rehearsals and at the end I went to get my stuff and it was gone. It was only a small group of students who used the space and all on my course so if they ever wore it I'd recognise it straight away.
A part of me wonders if a friend binned it to get me to stop wearing it...

Crikeyalmighty · 16/11/2025 15:23

Loads of band T shirts in dribs and drabs when we had a cleaner years ago -like 1 a week for weeks .

Lengokengo · 16/11/2025 15:33

i had some designer jeans nicked from tree laundry room at uni.

someone probably saw the label and took them however… I got them from my aunt who had tried to customise them and went wrong, so they were really short and narrow in the leg ( I am very short and was the shortest in my halls so didn’t bother me) but the waist was really large ( I just used a belt). Whoever nicked them would not have been able to wear them unless an extremely odd shape and very short. Serves them right.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/11/2025 15:45

DM has some underwear and PJs stolen off her line. She's in her 80s. We're blaming the perv next door.

JohnTheRevelator · 16/11/2025 15:54

Not sure if this counts as strange, but someone nicked my walking stick a few years ago. I was in a coffee shop and I'd left it propped up against the table,as I had done on many previous occasions when I went to the counter to get my coffee and something to eat. When I got back 5 minutes later,my stick was gone. What sort of person steals a disabled person's walking stick?!

Confusedmeanderings · 16/11/2025 16:38

I was having a particularly fraught run up to Christmas, culminating in some lowlife snatching my handbag at the supermarket as I unloaded my shopping into my car. Instinctively I lobbed the item that was in my hand at him. It happened to be a jar of Branstons pickle, so nice and heavy. I am an absolutely lousy shot, but miraculously it hit him on the head. He yelped and dropped the bag and ran off. I was feeling quite proud of myself but then it went a bit downhill. What I meant to do was shout after him a stream of impressive swear words, what actually came out of my mouth was "You're a very naughty boy!" Not quite the 'don't mess with me' image I was trying to project!
