To ask how to get DD off an escort agency?

CKapron · 28/04/2025 18:41

Does anyone know how to fix this? DD(22) is being bombarded with phonecalls and WA messages from men asking what her rate is and if she's still working.
One of them said he'd found her number on a website so she googled her own number and found it on an escort agency. We're assuming it's a typo 😕 (she isn't an escort, she has a job).
She doesn't want to change her number, what else can she do?

Order of likelihood in my mind:
1 - she’s working for them and doesn’t want to tell you
2 - someone has done this maliciously
3 - it’s a mistake.

call me cynical but it’s handy how the mistaken number belongs to a 22 year old woman, not a 55 year old man.

I think I'd just change my number!

Wouldn't you contact the agency, tell them the error? They're losing business.

Mayflyoff · 28/04/2025 20:03

Surely the agency would rather know and fix it than lose custom.

CKapron · 28/04/2025 18:48

She hasn't - that was my first instinct but she seems to think it will cause trouble for her. My view is there's some girl wondering why she isn't getting any work and will be glad to know why!

Your daughter’s reaction to this is….odd.

I realise that's a possibility yes, but not everyone is comfortable contacting an escort agency, even for that. I wouldn't want to. I'd rather have the hassle of changing number!

Catsandcannedbeans · 28/04/2025 20:06

Are you sure someone’s not put it on there maliciously? The modern version of writing their number on the toilet wall in the local dive bar.

Right. Well I would because it's always best to be direct and get to the root of the problem. They're not going to think you're a customer. Changing numbers is a pain.

I would have thought this is the most obvious reason, since when did having a job stop someone escorting on the side? You’re being naive OP.

But if she was escorting and didn't want OP to know, she wouldn't moan to OP about all these nuisance calls, right?

Seems more likely some creepy guy (ex or someone she rejected) has done this to make trouble for her. Or creepy woman, even (does she have a boyfriend whose ex is bitter or something?).

Or maybe the Op saw the messages?

I had a similar thing once though it was a psychotherapist who had put their number on their website wrong, making it my number. Ring and tell them! They'll want to know and it's the fastest way to stop it. Why would it cause trouble? It's just a phone number!

Notimeforaname · 28/04/2025 20:11

She has 3 options:

  • Put up with it
  • Change her number
  • Contact the agency.
That's literally it.
CKapron · 28/04/2025 20:13

ACynicalDad · 28/04/2025 18:49

I'd contact them as fast as you can so it doesn't end up elsewhere.

Thanks, we hadn't thought of that.

Have you googled her number yourself? Is it on an escort website? I would do that - it should help clear up what’s happened.

Ponderingwindow · 28/04/2025 20:14

She needs to both contact the agency to get it taken down immediately and she needs to change her number.

With internet searches and archiving, a phone number links to a person almost like an id number. The longer this goes on, the more chance someone will search her in 20 years and get a link that suggests she might have spent time as an escort.

the only reason I’m not convinced she is lying to you is because I would hope most women would be smart enough to get a second phone number for escort work.

CKapron · 28/04/2025 20:16

PinotDragon86 · 28/04/2025 18:56

Are you sure someone hasn't done it maliciously? Because if that's the case I'm pretty sure that's illegal. If its a genuine mistake then contact the agency and speak to them about the typo and have the number removed.
I know you said she doesn't want to change numbers but I would seriously reconsider as god knows how many people have now got access to her personal number....

I did ask her that, but she couldn't think of anyone. There's no way of telling for sure.

OctopusFriend · 28/04/2025 20:17

Has she done this yet?

CKapron · 28/04/2025 20:18

The number of people who come on here moaning about situations where they’re not prepared to do the most basic thing to change baffles me.

I think she's watched too many films where things escalate from something tiny.

This but also thinking the phone number is a typo is such a slim chance. Someone likely put it up out of spite. Has your DD split up with anyone recently? Has she looked at the escort ad?

Game0fCrones · 28/04/2025 20:20

If she doesnt get it removed soon, the internet crawlers will be all over it and post it to all sorts of 'punter' directories.

Well, she needs to either stop watching films or learn to separate fact from fiction. It's a serious issue, but it's easily resolved. She needs to resolve it.

CKapron · 28/04/2025 20:20

Addictforanex · 28/04/2025 19:48

Maybe I have a suspicious mind but I wouldn’t be so quick to believe it is a mistake, especially since she doesn’t seem to want to have the agency correct it - that’s very odd.

Funny how the error turned out to the be the number of a 22 year old woman…. And not a 65 year old man.

But if you do genuinely believe her - then could she have an enemy who has done this to her maliciously?

Hmm, that's a point - maybe it is malicious. I do believe her - not just because she has a job, there are plenty of reasons.

Yeah, I did. Some sort of blocker kicked in so I couldn't see the results, which speaks for itself.

But what would be the escalation? They will want to actual receive the calls and get business. It’s in their interest to resolve it
