Lovely smelling homes

How do some homes smell so nice! Sort of across between clean laundry and freshly baked cakes?! I hate anything scented so don't like buying diffusers etc. We do washing several times a week and our home never smells like this!

Try a reed diffuser with natural oils rather than entirely chemical - one with vanilla notes will smell lovely. You get used to the smell of your own home so notice other people’s more than your own.

Don't have a labrador. Mine rolled in something earlier and currently stinks. 🫢

Same applies to my car, mine permanently stinks of sweaty lab and pond water.

Cooker hood filters are a nightmare for smells. If you have the flat aluminium filters put them in the dishwasher - top shelf - once a week (minimum once a month). Investigate the charcoal round filters in the depths of the hood. They probably need changing every 6 months if you do a lot of cooking.
If you're cooking anything smelly then open kitchen window and shut doors to rest of house.
Drop of bleach down kitchen sink, rinse with cold water.
Strip off mattress protectors and pillow protectors - wash and line dry.
Pull duvet back when you get up and leave so that the mattress airs. If you can leave the window open slightly, even better.

I use Febreeze. You can buy it in a can or they have these teeny non-plug in air-freshners. I keep it in my downstairs toilet area on the windowsill and it keeps downstairs smelling pretty fresh.

You'll probably find that people are burning wax melts titled Clean Laundry or Freshly Baked Cookies...

Febreeze doesn’t smell clean and fresh, it smells of what it is..chemicals. And it’s certainly not good to breathe in.

I wish Vinted sellers could stop using Febreeze. Not only does it absolutely stink, it's a red flag because they obviously try to cover something, but it doesn't wash off! It takes several wash and time outside to finally wear off.

Hideous thing.

What are recommendations instead of febreeze <eyes up the dog>

I read essential oils are bad if you have dc under 2. I was spraying them instead of synthetic scents, but can’t anymore. Also read it’s a fire hazard tbf. Don’t know if anyone is more clued up on that though or knows of safe alternatives

On the back of this thread I’ve just put on my white company electric diffuser with the spa scent this morning.

The recommendations for valentte diffuser which scent is a fresh one please. Also any reasonably priced candles! I have loads of Jo Malone and white company and that type but it’s like burning money which I suppose it is!

I like the rosemary one
they do candles too but I haven’t tried them
seven seventeen do nice candles

I've found the best smell is washed clothes in the radiator! Also the diffusers, but not overpowering, scented wax melts, incense cones.

Twinsandsome · 01/05/2025 11:55

I’m really hoping I like the vallentte mentioned upthread as I’ve just spend £100!!!!

My house currently smells of fresh flowers, mainly lily’s

But I always open my windows daily esp recently with the warm weather they’re open all day and night so house smells fresh

StarTwirl · 01/05/2025 15:48

I’ve had reed diffusers in the past though which I’ve loved because I’ve enjoyed a different smell in the home
