To think things don’t last as long as they once did?

I bought a new toilet seat a year ago, and it broke yesterday. I’m very frustrated because when one issue is solved, something else breaks.

My furniture is mostly antique because I know they will last for the rest of my life!

You are not wrong. The market is flooded with cheap shite from T*mu and Shein and things are not made to last so you keep buying more and more. Also all the plastic tat which is produced for every season of the year and designed to be thrown away.

As was said on another thread though, people don't want to buy quality things which are made to last. They would be horrified at your antique furniture. They want large quantities of cheap, disposable shite.

Depressing.

The Boots Theory is still alive and well, though sadly even expensive things don’t last like they used to. My first Miele washing machine lasted 25 years and had I believe a 20 year guarantee. The new ones still cost a bomb but only come with a 2-5 year guarantee.

We bought a miele vacuum cleaner last year, replacing previous miele one which was 10+ years old. Something seems to have broken off the new one , and made it super faffy to use. DH has done a temporary repair with a cable tie, but it's rubbish that it has broken already.
