Colleague eating egg mayo sandwiches - to say something?

DontGiveUp90 · 25/04/2025 14:52

As above really…my colleague is lovely but insists on eating the most foul smelling egg sandwiches for her lunch. It lingers all afternoon and makes me feel sick.

Would I be unreasonable to say something? We don’t have a break out area where she could eat them as only a small office.

Well I didn’t expect my post to spark such a debate!

I’ve enjoyed reading the comments, I won’t say anything to my colleague as realise I’m over-reacting a bit.

I do feel sorry for her poor husband having to deal with the after effects of that lunch every evening though 😂

After effects?

People in this country have become so intolerant and fragile. I see this kind of behaviour in my young adult kids and their friends. Clearly affecting older people too on this thread. As a nation we need to get a grip.

Get a grip with accepting egg sandwiches?

Or get a grip with telling said colleague (or anyone) to fuck off stop eating egg sandwiches?

Do you mean farting? Or something else?

UndermyShoeJoe · 25/04/2025 22:05

Eggy farts are deadly. Like somethings died. ☠️

I must be one of the lucky ones who doesn’t get egg flatulence .

Adrinaxo · 25/04/2025 22:15

So glad I work from home Envy yuk! I would say you're allergic if it's that offensive

ksksn10 · 25/04/2025 22:27

Ive Never Farted after an Egg. I thought they Binded things up. @DontGiveUp90

Gosh I'd be vomming.😳 I know everyone's going to jump on this statement but that sounds revolting.

Seriously? You'd be throwing up when someone ate an egg mayo sandwich?

BumbleBeegu · 25/04/2025 23:07

BarnacleBeasley · 25/04/2025 15:19

Come on, everyone who's ever been on a school trip knows that egg sandwiches stink. There was always one child who would try and eat one on the coach.

👍🏻🙋‍♀️ I was that child 🤣

This is why I go out to the car to eat my lunch. Otherwise I get stressed about eating anything smelly or noisy, and it has the added bonus that I don't gave to make polite small talk and spend the whole evening analysing every social interaction I have had with people.

This is genuinely the saddest thing I have ever read on Mumsnet. What is the value in living a life entirely defined and shaped by fear of other peoples opinions?

You’re not funny.

Yet she's brave enough to stink the whole office out

She isn’t. This is a fuss about a sandwich.

It's great some people are intolerant of other people being thoughtless, it stops the thoughtless cunts in this country completely degrading the quality of life for everyone else with their antagonistic behaviour and attitude. I only wish some of them would get a slap in the face every time they acted like a thoughtless dick, then we might not have such a epidemic of people blasting crap out on their mobile phones on public transport, to name but one action of a cunt. It is attitudes like yours trying to project objections to poor behaviour back onto the victims that are part of the widespread problems in the UK.

Our office kitchen has a passive-aggressive sign up about not microwaving fish.

Is it ok to bring in left over takeaway and reheat it.

Bjorkdidit · 26/04/2025 18:41

Of course it is. I still don't understand what's wrong with being able to smell food.

Most people take a big sniff and go 'ooh, something smells good' but half of MN treat food smells as if someone has squirted noxious gas in their face.

LemonFinger · 26/04/2025 18:49

At least it isn't winter still. Open a window. Or waft a hand over your nose and go "whose farted in here! It stinks!

Hopefully they will be mortified, realise that egg mayo smells like farts, and stop being so grim. I don't usually like pulling passive aggressive stuff like this but I think it's worth a try.

Yeah but egg mayo and microwaved fish? There has to be a line drawn there! I don't mind curry, or even a Maccy Ds, but egg mayo would have me gagging. Tuna as well.

Open the windows and spray some room scent spray or febreeze. You cannot police what she eats

This.
It's crap that you hate the smell, but you can't tell her what she can and can't eat.
As pp says, get the window open instead.

Echobowels · 26/04/2025 18:59

Why not smear some Vicks vaporub under your nose, like pathologists do?

2catsandhappy · 26/04/2025 19:00

Perhaps you could wipe a bit of Vicks Menthol under your nostrils and give her evil looks @DontGiveUp90
Bring out solid air freshener while she is eating and put it away later.

InsertUsernameHereeee · 26/04/2025 19:08

Love an egg mayo sandwich. Just open a window.

laraitopbanana · 26/04/2025 19:15

Of course you can’t 👀

what about she comes back at you with regards to how you inconvenience her in any way at all? Building the team spirit eh?

Our office kitchen has a passive-aggressive sign up about not microwaving fish.

Can the fish eaters also veto other foods, otherwise it seems very harsh? When I was still teaching my room had a mini-kitchen and I had to ask one of my department to take her smelly pot noodles back to her own classroom once she's used the kettle!
