trigger warning - pregnancy loss ?
posting for traffic I apologise.

Took a pregnancy test Friday, weren’t late on my period, but was having cramps that felt weird, I don’t usually cramp unless I’m on my period. Came back VVF. Left as is, and tested again Monday, with a CB early digital, which came back as pregnant.

I am an avid tester after losses previously, so tested yesterday, and got another faint line but was invalid, as it didn’t go the whole way down. Tested again this morning and now PG test is negative.

should I just sit here and wait to see if I start bleeding, but I’ve been having very bad cramps for a week, and now the pain seems more established on the right side close to my hip, it’s like a dull ache. I also had some shoulder pain BUT I do have anxiety, and this was after reading posts about ectopic pregnancies. So I do take this into consideration too.

my LMP was 23/03 and my cycles are between 29-33. So I would only just be late for my period, and I have been testing early because of the symptoms I had. But what do I do now? So I go to A&E? GP can’t see me although they’ve said they’ll ask the ED to give me a call but they’re not sure if he will. And EPAU can’t be attended without a referral.

I’m guessing I’m around 4 weeks? Maybe a little more I’m just worried shit ectopic with the one sided pain and the cramps and the arm-shoulder pain. However from what I can find online at 4 weeks it’s so small it’s unlikely to cause rupture which then causes the pain? Ive also not started bleeding yet, or had any unusual discharge.

just cramping, nausea, sore nipples, sweatier than usual.

does anyone have any idea what I should do? its very different from when I suffered my loss in 2017, and I have a beautiful 6 year old now, so I’m sorry to anyone who this might trigger.

TYIA

I would call 111. I am really sorry you are going through this. It's a worrying time. Hope you get the advice you need.

Lanzarotelady · 23/04/2025 12:01

What do you want/expect A&E to do?

Mrsttcno1 · 23/04/2025 12:05

There’s really nothing that A&E or EPU can do, at 4 weeks they wouldn’t even be able to see if a pregnancy was ectopic or not.

Cramping is totally normal in early pregnancy, and it sounds as though the shoulder pain is something you’ve only felt after reading so is more anxiety than physical.

Sit tight, try to relax, and wait and see. At 4 weeks pregnant even if ectopic there is no urgent risk or anything to be done.

Investigate given OP thinks she could be having an eptopic?

ambercabs · 23/04/2025 12:07

Oh ignore me I didn’t realise they wouldn’t be able to know at this stage.

Investigate as OP has symptoms of an ectopic which is life threatening if not treated

There is no investigation or treatment that can do anything at only 4 weeks, which would be roughly 2 weeks after conception.

No it's far too early for that to be a risk. The cells are tiny & won't cause a problem even if technically 'ectopic'
They won't even be able to tell her.

OP, it's horrible & I'm sorry you are going through this. I think a&e is only going to make you feel worse & won't be able to tell you anything or do anything.

Try not to repeatedly test as you only drive the anxiety & pain (I'm a complete hypocrite as did exactly the same)

OurDreamLife · 23/04/2025 12:14

Sounds like a chemical. Nothing you can do.

My local Epu won’t see anyone under 6 weeks.

lnks · 23/04/2025 12:15

OP, I had an ectopic pregnancy. It was too early to scan but they did bloods every other day to see how the pregnancy was progressing. They had a good indication that it was an ectopic as the pregnancy hormones were not progressing as they should be.
They carried on with this for several weeks until the embryo was big enough to be seen on the scan. The scan confirmed that it was an ectopic and I received treatment for it. The fact that I had been have the bloods meant it was treated relatively quickly.

i cross posted with you but you can see my explanation above.

SmooothMoooves · 23/04/2025 12:18

Sorry you’re going through this OP. At 4 weeks, an ectopic won’t actually cause a problem I don’t believe so there isn’t any urgency for A&E.

TokyoSushi · 23/04/2025 12:18

I think it's a 'wait and see' situation, difficult though that is. I went to A&E with heavy bleeding at 6 weeks and they were completely dismissive and basically said 'what will be will be' go home and get on with it. (DS is 14 now!)

I'd wait it out for now and see how you get on.

WhatNoRaisins · 23/04/2025 12:20

If the pain becomes unmanageable I'd seek help. Otherwise you'd just be waiting around only to be told there isn't anything that can be done. I'd look after yourself for now.

Oreosareawful · 23/04/2025 12:20

In the kindest possible way, this is neither an accident or an emergency. You just need to wait and see.

lnks · 23/04/2025 12:25

Just to add, OP. Please don’t take medical advice from either me or any of the other posters on this thread. None of us can actually tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. You need to speak to an actual HCP because they are the best people to advise you. I would call your GP surgery or 111 today.

blooshboon · 23/04/2025 12:55

I called my GP, GP called EPU who want me to go up straight away, they’re aware I’m only 4 weeks. Will keep this updated when I find anything out. Thank you guys.

I’m really glad you’re going to be seen. You can’t be too careful if there is any hint of an ectopic pregnancy. Wishing you the best of luck 💐

WhatNoRaisins · 23/04/2025 13:15

Hope it goes ok OP and you're seen soon.

blooshboon · 23/04/2025 15:15

Just to update, just came from the EPAU who’s going to do a scan on an outpatients list to check for a cyst?

they’ve said it’s unlikely I was ever pregnant to begin with due to the negative test I took at home, then the test they took there was negative. Which is also the reasoning they gave for it to not be an eptopic. - based on two negative tests they’d expect a positive test to worry about ectopic pregnancy.

they felt my tummy, and all across the right side was very tender when they was pushing down, hence why they think it might be a cyst.

they said all my cramps and stuff could just be a sign of impending period.

blooshboon · 23/04/2025 15:16

Feeling lost and confused. Asked them if it could’ve been a chemical, as the last positive test I had was Monday, and they just said unlikely.

Has anyone else suffered similar? I just feel like I came away with no answers and even more confused

This.
Sorry, op, but it’s not an A & E situation Flowers

CarrotVan · 23/04/2025 18:37

I am so sorry. I had three losses between Boy 1 and Boy 2, two at 6-7 weeks and one at 12 weeks. It’s horrible and unless you experience the emotional roller coaster I don’t think you can understand. If you’ve had multiple losses then you might be able to get referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic
