To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

Agree with you, OP. That stuff isn’t food.

I wouldn’t feed it to a hog let alone a human child.

I use traditional. 50g oats 225ml water. Micro 3 min. (I don't salt)
Mind you it's the eating that takes too long. I have to wait ages for it to cool

Stir, stir, stir it up after it's out of the microwave and add cold milk 👍

Stop being so judgemental, there’s far worse things than chocolate cereal.

umm in terms of unhealthy food not much!

TumbledTussocks · 22/04/2025 13:17

I always assumed they were designed for stoned students tbh

My friends partner will eat six slices of fried bread as sandwiches stuffed with six sausages and six slices of bacon for breakfast.

A bowl of chocolate cereal would be much healthier.

We buy it occasionally as a treat. Normally though the kids will eat Aplin with chocolate chips and oats with fruit.

Imagine if you can the possibility that your opinions about food, diet, child rearing and a whole host of other things mean absolutely nothing outside your own door.

Yes we should all care. The NHS is on it's knees trying to handle lots of health conditions, secondary to poor diet and lack of exercise. Obesity is only the tip of the ice berg.

Childrens diets are positively frightening. Really fascinating to read the earlier message that most primary age children wouldn't eat a pulled pork?

*its

Me. I do. I buy cocopops. My kids are, fit, strong, healthy and active. We also eat real butter, eggs, full fat milk, home reared meat and three veg for meals. Kids are never ill, dont remember when they last had colds or an upset stomach/ virus tbh….

YourZanyNewt · 22/04/2025 14:13

My kids love Nutella!! I’m such a bad mum!😂xx As long as they get a balanced diet throughout the day?!? (Both are teens- seem to have survived childhood unscathed) X

boredoflaundry · 22/04/2025 14:14

@Blueyseviltwin the people who are buying those cereals are the ones who had parents that banned them !!

my kids have a choice - they often choose the healthier options - but there are coco pops, crunchy nut etc.
a balance, by choice.

one shit meal does not make a shit diet. Variety is the spice of life !!

lazycats · 22/04/2025 14:15

Virtually no cereals are good for you. Corn flakes, special k, granola, etc etc are all net negatives on the healthy scale. “Added vitamins” was one of the greatest food marketing scams ever

OP has gone from not knowing that supermarkets sell sweet cereals and being aghast to being a family of GP, teacher, 3 DC with needs and lived in several countries, I wonder if OP will add anymore as the thread goes along, I'm surprised they hadn't been down the cereal aisle before. I wonder if their wife is dishing up toast this week for the state run breakfasts.

Indeed.

I know someone who's insufferable over food like that. The family wait until he's away and don't tell him what they've been eating. Those kids will let loose when they leave home. Then he'll wonder what he did wrong

SatanicAngel · 22/04/2025 14:32

I buy Kraves and Coco-Pops for dd2. But she's 18, eats like a horse and is still only a size 6. Lots of adults eat sugary cereal.

My primary aged children would (and do) absolutely eat pulled pork, and wedges, and salad, and stews, and lentils, and curries, and everything else you’ve mentioned (chickpea curry is a particular favourite). At their birthday parties, however, they request things like pizza, nuggets and chips. Because it’s a party.

BuildbyNumbere · 22/04/2025 14:38

It’s not an appropriate breakfast for children but everyone will jump on your with their excuses and reasons why they feed it to their children!

SunnySideUK77 · 22/04/2025 14:40

ALL types of cereal/granola etc make a shite breakfast for anyone.
my girls eat some of the chocky stuff as snacks as their teens and I’d rather they ate soemthing.

whatdoyousayhey · 22/04/2025 14:45

Coco Pops are my pre-run fuel of choice, they’ve fuelled many a marathon 👌🏼

FlowerFairy12 · 22/04/2025 14:47

My husband loves chocolate wheetos. I’m more of a porridge with blueberries kinda gal.

Kazzybingbong · 22/04/2025 14:56

You deserve so much more hate than you’re getting for this ridiculous ‘I’m better than everyone’ comment.

Open your stupid eyes and realise that not everyone has the same life as you and if they want to give their kid chocolate cereal then they bloody well can do. Do you think it’s poisonous or something? Is a croissant with jam also devil food?

Thank your lucky stars that you don’t have a kid with ARFID or undergoing chemotherapy when you literally celebrate any food they’re able to eat.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 22/04/2025 14:56

You're a bit errrm judgey for a gp, are you not?

It is food though. But here’s your medal for being the best human ever 🥇

Comefromaway · 22/04/2025 14:58

Try having a child with Arfid.

Mylittlebobble · 22/04/2025 15:00

Mine do but inadvertently on my part. Asda keep changing the bog standard Asda own multigrain hoops I've ordered, to Asda chocolate ones. Every single time. I think my children have a contact inside Asda.

Ihopeyouhavent · 22/04/2025 15:02

Urghhh.....gotta love a judgy parent.

Dont worry about what others are feeding their kids, its none of your business!
