Dig licking plates before going into dishwasher - ick or not

Have have hosted a lovely Easter BH Monday for all 7 GC, 3 step children, partners & children. We had an Easter egg hunt in garden, had breakfast in local farm shop & walked my lovely little dog around, petted animals etc.

For context I need to say that DSS & DIL are both British, but live in USA.

After a roast dinner I put the plates & general pots & pans down for the dog to lick. My DIL lost the plot saying that was so unhygienic I assured her that they would be going into the dishwasher on a high temperature - about 90c so would be sterilised. I always let the dog pre-wash my plates as consider it's going into the dishwasher at high temp to be sterilised so no problem.

DIL saying she will never let her children eat at my house again & gone-taken her DH & DC off in an huff.

DH has had a text from his son apologising but saying what can he do as has to support his wife. I totally get that. But....

My question is - is it OK to let dog lick out the plates etc when they are going into dishwasher at a high temp? WWUD?

You do you

I mean I don’t but did you miss even the fart in face during sex thread. Rabbit holes and what not. My poor google.

Might start taking plastic plates and cutlery out with me 🤣🤣

Bacteriologically totally fine.

But socially? Awful.

Would you put your dirty knickers in the dishwasher with the cutlery? Equally fine, as all would come out sterile.

You might lose a few dinner guests though.🙄

Edited

no because it would trash my undies......I mean have SOME sense!

ScarlettOYara · 21/04/2025 16:51

I think a line has been crossed. To many people the dog isn't an animal, it's a friend or child. It's very strange.

gerul · 21/04/2025 16:51

I'm seriously worried for the state of the children of some people if they think they're similar to/worse than dogs 😨

For those with pets who don’t put the pet bowls in the dishwasher, how are you cleaning them?

I wash my dogs bowls by hand every morning. With my rubber gloves on. I don‘t put them in the dishwasher. They don’t need to go in the dishwasher.

investmentquandry · 21/04/2025 16:51

OMG the hypocrisy!

"I couldn't possibly eat off a plate that a dog had licked, before it was washed at 90 degrees, however, I have no problem licking my husband's penis"

OOOOKKKAAAAYYYY.

For those with pets who don’t put the pet bowls in the dishwasher, how are you cleaning them?

In the special pet utensils washing-up bowl in hot soapy water after presoaking them.

worcesterpear · 21/04/2025 16:53

I have a feeling mil used to do this, and I did find it off-putting but understood there was no logical reason why, as the dishwasher would kill all germs. It's up there with people letting their dog lick their face.

Do you lick your husband's penis in front of guests?

Fannyannie · 21/04/2025 16:53

Have a dearly loved dog. That was disgusting.

Dishwashers do not sterilize.
They sanitize.
Please don't let animals slobber over whatever a person has to eat or drink from.

Now that’s a whole other fetish. 🤣🤣

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 21/04/2025 16:54

@XenoBitch The colonoscopes are washed by the endoscopy tech or other endoscopy staff using a special sponge that has cleansers made for cleaning the scope. There are special attachments that are then placed on it and it’s placed into a special washing machine. The attachments are connected to lines that run a Glutaraldehyde solution through the scope to clean and disinfect the inside of the scope when the machine is running. It also cleans the outside of the scope and rinses it. Sometime an alcohol solution is used as a final rinse. There are special test strips that can be used to test if the colonoscope has any biological matter or residue. If anything is detected it is re-cleaned the same as above and tested again. I don’t think a normal dishwasher does the same for dog licked plates. 🤣

godmum56 · 21/04/2025 16:49

dammit, was thinking i could have avoided hosting a shedload of dinners.

Nope! They turn up anyway 🤣🤣 often with treats for the dogs 😎

DoYouReally · 21/04/2025 16:54

The level of denial with some dog lover never ceases to amazing me.

I bet the same ones who put dog dishes in with normal dishes are those who don't think their houses smells or those who are oblivious to the dog hairs everywhere, the people who let the dogs in beds and on other kitchen surfaces and the type who refer to themselves as "dogmums".

It really is vile.

Fucking amateur.

I ship my dog bowls off to Mars to get washed. They take months to come back, and even then they have space dust on them.

WaltzingWaters · 21/04/2025 16:54

Utterly disgusting. I know it’s going to be washed in the dishwasher at a high temperature and all, but still, majorly grim (and I say this as a dog owner). I mean, just scrape the scraps into the dogs bowl.

I’d be really reluctant to eat at yours in future also.

LSmiff · 21/04/2025 16:54

It depends on how many arses the dog’ s licked.

Nah, I worked in theatres. It is spit and polish (joking).
