What places in the Uk make you feel that you can breathe again?!

I live in a North East England coastal town. Despite having the beach, I quite regularly have to drive out into the Yorkshire Moors to ground myself again.

I think it may be related to Biophilia however I dont get the same relief from visiting local nature.

Holkham beach for me....windy and chilly by the sea and hot in the dunes!

Holkham beach for me too. Also Holkham Park, sitting by the lake on a sunny day and watching the deer and the geese with their babies.

My home village. When I go back there to visit family I always take myself out on a walk to all the places that hold happy childhood memories. I love to walk past my old primary school and around the housing estate I grew up on. Seeing my friend’s houses and the little green we used to play on always brings a swell of nostalgia. I love the little church and church hall where so many life events have taken place for friends and family. It’s been more than thirty years since I was a child there but I always feel comforted and rejuvenated while I am walking with my memories. It’s a place I feel I belong and genuinely feel sad when it’s time to return to real life.

Greenbank Gardens in the southside of Glasgow.

Strolling up the Long Walk in Windsor with the castle ahead of me.

The riverside at Henley on Thames.

Absolutely anywhere by the sea but especially the Northumberland coast.

Anglesey, especially Ynys Llanddwyn. A magical place. Unfortunately I live miles away but I’d love to move there if family and finances allowed.

The mug section at Tescos.

The woods. I feel like I need to walk through trees to ground myself sometimes.

The parks in London, particularly the less central ones, like Hampstead Heath, Brockwell Park, Highbury Fields

Also Didsbury, Manchester. Only been a couple of times, but it had a very nice feel to it. Like a mini London neighbourhood up North.

Two very contrasting places - central London, and the Western Isles of Scotland.

Which parts of Central London? I left London last year. I do miss it. 😪

Lytham St Anne’s

That's an interesting one, I live there. I love going down to the sea front and staring out but I wouldn't have thought anyone would pick it as their go to place

Around St Paul’s Cathedral and Bank on a weekend. I lived in uni halls at Charterhouse Square (Barbican) and the weekends felt so peaceful.
The north coast of Northern Ireland on a sunny day is heaven.
Swimming in the sea, anywhere really

I love walking around central London. Park Lane, Belgravia, Mayfair, St. James's Park, and all the little squares. I find a lot of London very peaceful (at the right time).

@JellieT0tz I'm in Teesside as well, born and brought up here. Although I don't hate it and like you say there's some lovely coastal/rural bits, I'm not happy here after moving back here from uni.

@CivilSarah you beat me to it. Liverpool is my happly place. I just feel "different" as soon as I step out of Lime Street, like a happier, more talkative, friendlier and more confident version of myself. It feels more like home than my hometown (where I feel on guard all the time). People talk to me. People are interested in me. Things feel lighter and more "possible". It has many rough bits, but I've never had any problems. I'm trying to move there. I wanted to go to LJMU but ballsed my A-levels up, had to go through clearing, and ended up at Salford, then met a lad and stayed for a few more years. I found Manchester to be quite "false" and never really settled or felt like i belonged (plus, Man U fans! 😤). When I do move to L'pool, I'll never live in a small town again!

@JackGrealishsCalves I just feel grounded there. It’s just somewhere where I feel at ease. Not sure why. I love the cafe right on the sand dunes too.

It's a very relaxed and safe feeling place but way too windy much of the year!
