Have you ever been to a concert alone?

One of my favourite bands are playing at a venue in one of my favourite places (abroad and sunny). I don't have friends who would be interested in coming along with me. I'd look pathetic there alone, wouldn't I?

OP posts:
Womanofcustard · 18/04/2025 20:44

No you wouldn’t look pathetic. And you might make new friends there!

Branleuse · 18/04/2025 20:45

yes i have. I did a festival on my own and it was brilliant

Eggsboxedandmelting · 18/04/2025 20:46

Only to a quite local place which didn't hold that many people... Depends on the band if I would travel further I guess...

gabsdot45 · 18/04/2025 20:46

Yes. I went to see Hugh Jackman's one man show alone.
I sat in the second row and the tickets were really expensive so I only got one.
If was fine.
I also sat alone at a Bryan Adams concert. I went there with a friend but we weren't seated together.
I've also been to the theatre alone a few times.
Doesn't bother me

HobnobsChoice · 18/04/2025 20:46

I've done it quite a few times. I didn't feel sad or lonely and I don't think anyone noticed me in particular I was annoyed I had to leave one gig early due to the last train being quite early and another time my back hurt so I had to go and sit down near the back. It was nice not having to think about other people though in a way. If my back had really hurt I could have just left without letting anyone down.

I don't think most people really notice other gig go-ers and once the band starts everyone is just in the moment. Occasionally you get a few nods and smiles if people appreciate your t shirt or you get eye contact during a song but it's nice not judgemental. I'm sure there is probably a forum or Reddit group or similar where you can arrange to meet up with others if you wanted.

EmpressaurusKitty · 18/04/2025 20:46

Yes I have, I had a great time & why on earth should anyone think that? Would you look at a lone woman & think ‘Pathetic’?

Thisshirtisonfire · 18/04/2025 20:47

Yes i have. And people were so friendly as you are bonded by being fans.

FastFood · 18/04/2025 20:47

No not at all.
A lot of people go to gigs alone these days.
10-15 years ago, it was possible to pay £25 for a band you don't know much about just to be with friends, but now, £50+ tickets make that discovery + social aspect of gigs quite hard.

ForAzureSeal · 18/04/2025 20:48

Of course you won't look pathetic! You'll look like a fan like everyone else! In the old days there used to be fan groups who'd arrange to meet up in a pub beforehand for those travelling alone and not keen to attend alone. Not sure if these still exist?

MirrorMirror1247 · 18/04/2025 20:48

I've been to plenty of gigs by myself and made friends while there, quite often they're also by themselves! The gigs are usually away from home and I haven't always seen them again, but I have them on facebook/insta which is nice, and I may see them again at other gigs!

JenniferAnistonForReals · 18/04/2025 20:48

I’ve been to loads on my own. No way I’m missing out on things I want to do just because no-one wants to join me.

CorbyTrouserPress · 18/04/2025 20:51

I work in live events. More people than you probably realise go to gigs alone. Life’s too short not to go.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 18/04/2025 20:54

But they’ll all be strangers so why would you care what they think? Been to loads of gigs alone.

Parapapa · 18/04/2025 20:56

I went alone to my first ever gig. I wanted to go but was worried of the unknown, especially as I had just moved to a new place. I was on the verge of chickening out but then decided to just try it. It was fine, and actually nice to just have to focus on myself. I enjoyed it and have been to so many more gigs since. Just go! I was so proud of myself after doing it :)

Tessiebear2023 · 18/04/2025 20:59

Yes I've been to a concert alone, not abroad tho, not that it makes much difference. I'm definitely thinking of doing it again too. Got to meet the band last time, and made friends with a guy taking his nephew to his first gig, it was a great time. At 47 I'm done worrying if I'll look sad, and as I get older I don't pass on any opportunities to have a bit of fun, I never regret it.

Came to say exactly this!!!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

QueefQueen80s · 18/04/2025 21:02

Yes been to loads, some I stay in my own feeling the music bubble, other times I’ve got chatting to people. Enjoy! ♥️

JudasTree · 18/04/2025 21:03

These posts are so sad. Are there really adult women crippled by self-consciousness to the extent that they restrict their lives and forgo enjoyable, entirely ordinary things for fear of what strangers might think?

OP, this is mad. For years I went to all gigs or theatre alone, because we had no childcare out of work hours, so had to take it in turns to go to things.

FrodisCapering · 18/04/2025 21:03

Paul McCartney a few years ago. We could only get one ticket and I'm the biggest fan, so I went.

Gundogday · 18/04/2025 21:04

Yes - go and enjoy it.

petermaddog · 18/04/2025 21:04

all the time

NetflicksAndSleep · 18/04/2025 21:06

I’ve done it loads of times! And seen loads of others obviously on their own too,

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 18/04/2025 21:06

DP and I have both been to concerts alone as we have very different musical taste! I’m going to a festival alone in the summer. He may join me for one day but not the main day that I want to see.

I almost booked the Spanish venue for this band instead, which would have been amazing, but I couldn’t afford the flights and extra costs of travelling there. As a single mum of 3 now grown up DCs I’m actually excited at the prospect of doing anything just for myself!

Sugarfish · 18/04/2025 21:06

Loads of people go on there own, I’ve always let people join me and my friends if they’ve asked as well. Does the band have a Reddit sub or discord? You could ask on there if anyone would like to meet up?

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 18/04/2025 21:08

On the flip side I went to a music event with my DCs and while it was lovely chatting and having a meal before the show, during the actual music we were obviously all facing the stage so didn’t really interact. If I was into dancing I can imagine having someone else with me would have made that feel less awkward , but I can bob my head and sway happily alone.
