To think protesting the Trump visit would be really selfish?

I actively despise Trump, but AIBU to think sabotaging what will be quite an expensive state visit by protesting would be for the good of the protestor’s reputation/conscience rather than actually achieve anything?

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad @AlertLimeZebra .

I don't know if you've ever been on a protest. In the past I've campaigned for Compassion in World Farming, League against Cruel Sports, the destruction of an ancient woodland to widen a road and amongst other things, the building of a second nuclear power station in rural Somerset.

The real truth is that the people who attend these rallies aren't the same crowd at all. They're a huge diverse muddle of students, the retired, local people, people who travel enormous distances because they care so much about the issue. They are all classes, all education levels, all ages. Protests are often at the weekend or evening to allow those who are working to attend. I've always worked and felt it was my duty to stand up for the things I believed in during my spare time.

People do take note of protests. People don't all laugh and ignore. When I think back on my 60 years I have seen huge changes in farming, country sports and the view of the environment and a lot of that has come from people power.

If you dismiss the right of the individual or group to protest then you clear the way for those with ill intent and I can't believe that's your intention.

Why do you think he should be praised - what has he achieved?

He’s hated by the majority of us here in Canada 🍁

Hatred is an ugly emotion, all it does is affect the people doing the hating,
letting whomever it is live rent-free in their mind, I'm sure he will achieve much before his tenure ends, there's even whispers the law may be changed so he can serve a wonderful third term !........😊

The two women who damaged the case the Magna Carta was stored in (not the Magna Carta itself) are a vicar and a retired teacher. Their case comes to court in January by the way.

The only person who has tried to destroy the Magna Carta was King John and that didn't end well for him.

You are wrong about the complete erasing of Easter at Eastleigh School. A bonnet parade was cancelled but the intention was always to maintain some Easter celebrations. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0mwd083l4lo

I'm not sure you understand what anarchy is. It's the organization of society on the basis of voluntary cooperation, without political institutions or hierarchical government. The people above (possibly with the exception of King John) are ordinary people operating within our established society (two in government funded roles) and are either protesting on individual subjects or merely her job within the guidelines set down by government bodies. They're not anarchists and nor are they asking for anarchy.

Also, for your information, no councils have banned Nativity plays except due to Covid restrictions.

You might do well to look at how the changes Trump has made contravene key tenets of the Magna Carta and the constitution of the United States.

I'm thinking particularly, but not exclusively of the detaining immigrants and this section of the Magna Carta “No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we [King John] proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.”

Oh alright then, the Daily Mail didn't say some Easter celebrations were still going to take place at the School, I must have got it wrong about Council's banning Nativity plays also, c'est la vie......😑

Lumping all these protesters together is the same as me saying that all the hotel yellers are low IQ gullible toothless unemployed morons who subscribe to far-right racist agendas and weird conspiracy theories, and who start day drinking at 8am before another workless day screaming at destitute brown people.

But I wouldn’t do such a thing, it would be poor form and drive them all to start voting for far-right parties to spite me, right ?

He hasn’t yet achieved anything and he (and his press secretary) still don’t understand how tariffs work.
And yes we do hate him with his threats of turning Canada into the 51st state. It’s already backfired on him as tourism in the northern US is struggling as Canadians aren’t coming over the border and we are sticking to not buying US products.

Here's a quote, "The school's website states: 'Throughout the school year important celebrations in the lives of our children and school community are marked and celebrated together. These include EID, Diwali, Christmas and Easter."

Except you did:

To be honest all those protesting the Trump visit would be the same crowd bused in to all the anti migrant rallies to oppose them and the exact same crowd who go to all the Gaza rallies add Infinium.
One big stink of middle class, white, scruffy unemployed idiots with their silly megaphones and banners, every one else will just look snigger and laugh at them and carry on

Why is it any of our business who another country have as their president? Who cares? Seriously?!? Get on with your own life and make sure your house is in order before critiquing everyone else’s

It is our business if he's here, if he owns property in this country and if he's imposing tariffs on the UK.

Anyone with a conscience cares about how other countries and their leaders treat people in their home country and the wider world.

It is possible to multitask and get on with your own life, do your best to ensure your own house is in order and critique someone else's simultaneously.

He is more than welcome in my country, I praise Donald Trump, I can't be doing with anarchists, they hate all our traditions and values.

Misogyny and racism- those values?

The fact he's trying to restore world peace and end terrorism, I really don't understand the hatred directed towards him, probably caused by jealousy and envy I reckon

Jealousy and envy 😂

He’ll be disappointed if there aren’t any protestors

Trump delights in causing division, opposition and anger. It’s his modus operandi

We peacefully protested Vance recently, the police went to extreme lengths to hide us from his view, they tried to move us from a public space to beyond his turn off then kettled us (including elderly And kids) and parked police vans in front of us and held everyone for two hours. I'll do it again if trump comes anywhere the fuck near my area.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/09/2025 15:50

PermanentTemporary · 18/04/2025 18:04

The man loves attention. Protesting is attention in his mind. I'd rather we ignored it as much as possible.

It would be better if absolutely nobody turned up because he loves attention even negative attention attention bit that would be harder to organise than a protest. I don't think protesting is selfish though.

InterestedDad37 · 05/09/2025 15:54

I understand your hesitancy, and no, it probably won't change anything. But as others have said, the odious idiot/clown/creep/dangerous tosser deserves everything that is thrown at him, literally and figuratively.
Don't get yourself arrested or hurt, but give him hell ✊

Unfortunately the actions of Trump - alienating countries and pushing Russia and China into an alliance isn’t good for anyone. Trump has little or no understanding of world politics - hence him no understanding how tariffs work.

I’m still pissed off at the Scandinavians for all that Viking pillaging. That’s why I boycott IKEA and never EVER listen to ABBA.

The disruptive just stop oil bunch for starters, those two old women who attempted to destroy the magna carta, I'm unaware if they've been sentenced yet, but they deserve locking up, then there was the Headmistress who completely erased any recognition of Easter at her School, breaking the childrens hearts, let alone Schools and left-wing Councils who ban School Nativity plays because they're 'imperialist' and other ists and ics, the list is endless.

You should probably stop reading the daily mail.
