To think protesting the Trump visit would be really selfish?

I actively despise Trump, but AIBU to think sabotaging what will be quite an expensive state visit by protesting would be for the good of the protestor’s reputation/conscience rather than actually achieve anything?

And what is it about him that you think merits praise, @Markovenchip ?

The fact he's trying to restore world peace and end terrorism, I really don't understand the hatred directed towards him, probably caused by jealousy and envy I reckon

Who are the anarchists of which you speak and which traditions and values would they be?

The disruptive just stop oil bunch for starters, those two old women who attempted to destroy the magna carta, I'm unaware if they've been sentenced yet, but they deserve locking up, then there was the Headmistress who completely erased any recognition of Easter at her School, breaking the childrens hearts, let alone Schools and left-wing Councils who ban School Nativity plays because they're 'imperialist' and other ists and ics, the list is endless.

Pissenlit · 05/09/2025 08:08

Well, you sit back, put your feet up and do nothing then, OP.

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 05/09/2025 08:10

Since when is protest sabotage? It will just be a complementary piece of symbolism.

State visits are absolutely prime candidates for such symbolic actions, since they are themselves just performances symbolic of respect and approval. The presence of counter-symbolism is natural and expected, even with less controversial figures.

Any dislike of him that the protest reveals is likely to be interpreted by Trump as signs of his own power and significance, and I'm sure that the politicians and functionaries managing the visit have enough toadying expertise to bolster this interpretation.

It's all just bread and circuses. At least the protests are probably less expensive than other parts of the performance.

You seem to gloss over his multiple felony convictions, known close association with pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffery Epstein…

Jealousy and envy isn’t what comes to mind, no. Not even remotely.

It was the American people who put Trump where he is as the president of democratic country, and seeing the UK cant vote in the American elections it won't affect Trump in fact I think he would love the attention so sure go for it protest away, all it will do is highlight the American public voted him in not that anyone admits to voting for him but sure protest away

He will be out in a few years anyway so what will it do?

LilyCanna · 05/09/2025 08:22

I hope he will be out in a few years. The damage his regime has done in the US and the world won’t disappear though (thinking for example of the millions whose treatment for HIV and TB or emergency food aid was stopped, and his undermining US democracy). It would be naive to think the next US elections will be ‘free and fair’.

I would actually to go and interview one 'ok so specifically actually list what you dont like about him providing precise details that you know yourself that you have not read off the media or forums from official sources please actually explain'

Divebar2021 · 05/09/2025 08:56

I’ve just spent 25 years working with the Met Police and have worked around planning visits like this one. ( for background just so you know I’m not “ scruffy unemployed”). I say protest away…protest to your hearts content. Line the streets with your banners and be vocal. His government are always wanging on that there’s no free speech here so let’s show them that it’s not the case. He’s an Anglophile and a “sucker up “ to the Royal family and I dare say they’re rolling their eyes that’s they’ve got to roll out the red carpet for him for the sake of U.K. PLC.

Poppingby · 05/09/2025 09:01

You don't have to protest if you think it's tactically unwise. But I don't think our government should be expensively buttering him up (which is what soft benefits really means) with my tax money and I can't think of another way of saying so in a way that will be heard?

I wonder what the overlap is between people flying the red cross because they don't want our culture diluted and those who welcome an American sex-criminal despot treating our country like his country estate.

You think everybody supportive of Gazans and migrants are “white”, “middle-class” but also “unemployed”?

Ok.

Which regime (in another country) was ousted by protesting here?

Apartheid South Africa

He is more than welcome in my country, I praise Donald Trump, I can't be doing with anarchists, they hate all our traditions and values.

Why do you think he should be praised - what has he achieved?

He’s hated by the majority of us here in Canada 🍁

The two women who damaged the case the Magna Carta was stored in (not the Magna Carta itself) are a vicar and a retired teacher. Their case comes to court in January by the way.

The only person who has tried to destroy the Magna Carta was King John and that didn't end well for him.

You are wrong about the complete erasing of Easter at Eastleigh School. A bonnet parade was cancelled but the intention was always to maintain some Easter celebrations. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0mwd083l4lo

I'm not sure you understand what anarchy is. It's the organization of society on the basis of voluntary cooperation, without political institutions or hierarchical government. The people above (possibly with the exception of King John) are ordinary people operating within our established society (two in government funded roles) and are either protesting on individual subjects or merely her job within the guidelines set down by government bodies. They're not anarchists and nor are they asking for anarchy.

Also, for your information, no councils have banned Nativity plays except due to Covid restrictions.

You might do well to look at how the changes Trump has made contravene key tenets of the Magna Carta and the constitution of the United States.

I'm thinking particularly, but not exclusively of the detaining immigrants and this section of the Magna Carta “No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we [King John] proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.”

A blue metal gate with a large blue badge with the words 'Norwood School' inscribed on it.

Eastleigh school that axed Easter service 'will still celebrate'

Norwood Primary School, in Eastleigh, has faced backlash for axing some Easter events.
