To ask if anyone wore an 'alternative' wedding dress/outfit?

I'm mid 30s and no offense to those who did but I have zero interest in wearing a highly elaborate, white traditional wedding dress complete with train and veil.
I'm not even bothered about wearing white! Would probably spend around £50 max on it.

Just wondering if anyone else wore something different?

I hate white not just for a wedding dress but any type of clothing.

I love the pale blue and gold outfit Camilla (now the queen) wore to the second ceremony at st georges chapel.
The gold head dress she had was gorgeous too.
I dislike those strapless wedding dresses horrid.

I wore this dress, I felt like white didn’t suit me

Oh, my!
This dress is glorious! 💖💖💖

You look wonderful and the bouquet!🧡💚🧡💚

When we had our CP 15 years DW and I were trying to live a more sustainable life, in touch with Nature, growing food etc. Our reception was put together like a Church Tea from the 1940s/1950s. It was great fun.
We were loving a Lagenlook style then.
DW wore LaBass linen trousers in a rust/copper colour with a beige linen top.
i wore a layered skirt in dark brown with a rust coloured tunic from a designer in Glastonbury. We both still have these clothes and still often wear them .

Married 25 years this year. I wore silver-grey satin fitted trousers with a pale grey shirt, and a gorgeous long length grey satin tail-coat over the top. The coat had a paisley pattern threaded through it and I loved the outfit so much that I wore it for work off and on for about ten years until it fell apart!
It was well recieved, lots of nice comments (DH said he knew I "wouldn't wear a frock" 😂 but was delighted when he saw me)
Go for it, wear something that says who you are! 😁

One sister word a vintage cream silk Edwardian outfit and the other wore a red velvet dress. Lots of people wear suits or a dress and jacket. Wear what you are comfortable in and can wear again. It’s not the clothes that matter but the person you are marrying.

1950s style cream prom dress, in the sale at £30. Married in the Caribbean, just the two of us, many moons ago. Wouldn't change a thing!

I'd love to see a photo sounds gorgeous!

This is the crochet dress.
I think we made history on our wedding day. We had to get back to Leeds for the new term as we were both students and managed to find ourselves on the football express. The fans kept pulling the emergency cord so at Doncaster the police came on and took everybody’s name. First use of my married name.

What's an "older bride"? Not being smart, just curious. Getting married next year and wondering if I'm too old to wear a white wedding dress 👰 🤔

You’re not. It doesn’t matter if you’re 19 or 98. The only rule is that you have to feel lovely in whatever you choose to wear.

VelmaKelly · 19/04/2025 23:52

I wore a green gown. I was married in a garden and we walked to reception. I did ballroom dancing at the time and the idea was to wear it again to a ball.

Webbedlife · 20/04/2025 00:42

I got married in a dark red dress back in the 90s and the reception was on a shoestring. My only regret was the scruffy registry office but you couldn't get married in more interesting non-church locations at that point.

Went to a wedding nearly 2 years ago - bride was late 60s and had 2 white wedding dresses! She had been married before as well. Wear what you want!

My dress was designer and cost a ridiculous amount 30-odd years ago! I opted for pale pink instead of white though. A friend got married in gold silk - she wanted black but her mother wouldn't hear of it!

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 04:23

A friend's bride wore a dark emerald green satin strapless dress with a simple but dramatic skirt. She looked magical.

I wanted black bridesmaids dresses but my mother wouldn’t hear of it! A couple of years later, at a friend’s (very formal, cathedral) wedding. Bridesmaids in black. My mother: ‘oh you’re right Geller, that does look nice’ 🤦‍♀️😡

I wore an off pink dress from asos. Cost me £50. It was knee length and backless

VikingLady · 20/04/2025 10:24

We both took the opportunity to buy/wear clothes we couldn’t justify buying for anything else. For me that was a proper steel boned corset that fit properly, and for H it was a poet shirt, cords and a new pair of New Rocks.

I wore a green knee length dress. But it was a small wedding in a registry office followed by lunch in the local pub so I don’t think anyone was expecting a big white dress.

If I’d had a big wedding, I really like the idea of a white jumpsuit (Carina on station 19 wore a nice one if anyone saw that)

Also wore a green dress - saw it online, £50 in a sale (John Lewis I think) and realised I wanted to wear that rather than go traditional white / actual wedding dress. Have worn it since to other events
