Husband spoiled Easter bunny surprise

Sleepingallday · 18/04/2025 16:43

I bought an Easter egg for my DS weeks and weeks ago. Purposely bought it during a supermarket shop when he wasn’t with me. Saw a dinosaur themed one and had it in a Tesco carrier bag in the utility room on top of a cupboard. Was looking forward to doing a little hunt and the look on my sons face when he found it.

husband has taken it off the top off the cupboard to get to something and didn’t put it back up. DS just went into utility room and found it on the floor, spoiling the surprise.

AIBU to be gutted and pissed off

It's an Easter egg. He'll get over it not being a suprise.

Acc0untant · 18/04/2025 16:45

It's just an Easter egg. I doubt your husband did anything maliciously. It's not like he's ruined Santa for the little lad.

HairyGarden · 18/04/2025 16:45

It was just an accident. Tell him to get a different surprise to replace it. Life is really too short.

Boomer55 · 18/04/2025 16:45

It’s just an Easter egg. 🤷‍♀️

Calliopespa · 18/04/2025 16:46

To be honest your son probably still had a look of surprise - you just weren’t there to see it.

No not malicious but it was fairly careless. I guess I’m worried that if he can see the Easter bunny isn’t real then he’ll realise it must be the same with Santa

How old is your son?

He's far too young to think hard enough to deduce Santa can't be real because Mum bought an Easter egg. The shops are full of the exact things the Easter bunny could bring, little children aren't suspicious enough to question why that is.

We never did Easter bunny or tooth fairy, always knew it was fake. I think it made me believe in Santa more rather than believing all of them were real if that helps at all..

ExtraOnions · 18/04/2025 17:40

When did the Easter Bunny bring “real” become a thing?

Massive Rabbit .. wandering in your house … stuff of nightmares

Dartmoorcheffy · 18/04/2025 17:41

Surely your child will have seen Easter eggs in the shops since January.. the Easter bunny has never really been a thing for any kids I know, certainly not like father xmas

I am 46 and he came to us when I was young so he has been around a while 🙂

Lascivious · 18/04/2025 17:45

The Easter bunny was never a ‘thing’ for ours.

To be ‘gutted and pissed off’ is a tad of an overreaction. Just give him the egg and forget about it.

PrincessCalley · 18/04/2025 17:45

Never had the easter bunny as a child and don't do with my kids either. How do you explain neighbours/family giving your kids easter eggs? No easter bunny has not interfered with santa in our house.

Yes but you presumably knew that it wasn't really a giant bunny leaving the eggs?

This is why I never wanted to visit Santas Grotto as a child. After having it drummed into me not to talk to strangers, and not to accept things from them I’m then expected to let a random old man hold me on his lap and give me a present? And then he’s going to come into my bedroom when I’m asleep?!
it’s all very mixed messaging 🤣

SpringIsSpringing25 · 18/04/2025 17:51

It doesn't really matter what it was or whether he believes in the Easter bunny or not, Your DH thoughtlessly spoilt something you had planned as a surprise for your DS.

Nothing wrong with telling him you are annoyed with him for being so thoughtless.

Personally, I'd still do the Easter egg hunt whatever you were going to do and I'd make DH go out today for something else to put at the end of it!!

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 18/04/2025 17:53

I can totally see where you're coming from OP! Disappointing. Does he believe in the Easter Bunny?

DrCoconut · 18/04/2025 17:53

Do kids think the Easter bunny is real now? I don't remember it even being a pretend thing when I was a kid, your family and friends got you Easter eggs. IV just been in our local. Asda and they still have Easter bits in so there is time to replace it if you want to.

But he’ll have seen Easter eggs in shops for ages. So if he’s got the reasoning skills to think that if the Easter bunny isn’t real, Santa isn’t either, then he’s probably able to work out that shops full of Easter eggs probably means the Easter bunny doesn’t bring them.

How old is he?

Same. I think I'd vaguely heard of the Easter Bunny character but it wasn't an actual thing that we were told about or any pretence that he was real.

This really isn't worth being upset about OP, not for a moment. It's not a big deal at all.

Pandimoanymum · 18/04/2025 17:58

Oh, it’s annoying obviously but it’s hardly a big issue. Just get a different egg for him to hunt on Sunday 🤷‍♀️
Over the years my DS has found several birthday/Christmas presents that have not been hidden properly ( usually my own fault) or I’ve moved them and forgotten to put them back like your husband did. Thanfulky, the trauma didn’t have lasting effects on either my son or I 🤣

WinterMorn · 18/04/2025 17:59

Why are you “gutted”? It’s really not a big deal.

easterlamb · 18/04/2025 17:59

The eggs are from a bunny? I didn’t think bunny’s laid eggs. What about if you just say an Easter chic laid them?
