To be disappointed with my hot cross bun

I have looked so forward to trying the salted caramel and chocolate hot cross bun which I purchased from my local supermarket. I now feel a bit disappointed, not quite the taste sensation I was hoping for. I am going to have to eat another one just to be sure aren’t I?

I have been trying to get the gooey ones from M&S but they have been sold out for weeks. Also nails out of chocolate ones as well. Had to have cheese ones. I feel your pain OP!

@lexi873nooooooo!

Love a traditional hot cross bun
BUT I really enjoyed the chocolate ones from m&s and also I’ve tried the salted caramel and chocolate orange ones from both m&s and Tesco…..I really rated them! Lightly toasted with a fuck ton of Kerrygold butter. An absolute delight

Thegreenandpurpleone · 18/04/2025 17:22

Thanks OP, you’ve reminded me to go try the cheese ones I got from M&S just yesterday - how could I forget I bought them?!

Lovemycat2023 · 18/04/2025 17:25

If it’s the Tesco one YABU - toasted and with loads of butter it’s lovely. The cheese one however is a disappointment

I only really like the traditional fruited bun, but using one to sandwich a couple of well-grilled rashers was a revelation.

Warm it slightly in toaster and no spread needed, it’ll help a bit

I don't like hot cross buns but I told DS he could have some of these over Easter weekend, but they were sold out yesterday and today

Yes sold out here too. But I comforted myself by reading the comments on here saying they weren't that great anyway. I'm fancying a cheese one now!

I want to try the cheese ones with bacon but sold out round here

What about these? I'm sorely tempted. 😄

I had one today. Much much much better than expected. I wish I'd bought two packs instead of one and a box of crème eggs

I got the M&S cheese HCB was very disappointed. I thought they would be like traditional buns with added cheese
It deserves me right,I’m sticking to the traditional ones in the future

socks1107 · 18/04/2025 22:40

If it’s the Tesco one yabu. They are delicious 🤤 😂

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/04/2025 22:42

Asking for a friend but apparently Aldi had some Mystery Flavours ( totally random) any feedback on these?

I did some extensive HCB sampling last month.
Sainsburys bakery or TTD with no butter. Toasted and slightly cooled with lemon curd.
No jazzed up flavour

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/04/2025 22:46

I was horrified by the M&S lemon curd filled ones... there was no fruit in it except a blob of lemon curd. It was like a bloody burger bun with some lemon curd in it!

It did not live up to expectation at all, it was about the same level of crap as a plain iced bun, but pretended to be so much more. Deceitful and devious I call it.

Stuck to the standard or the extra fruity from then on, never shall I dally with fancy hot cross buns again!!

However it is quite nice if you shove some crispy bacon in a standard toasted/buttered hot cross bun. Mmm.
