Put up wind chimes to annoy noisy neighbours

I have recently put up 2 large wind chimes to annoy my neighbours. I’ve had enough work long night shifts & the neighbours who’s house mine is attached too make constant noise have a loud dog that barks throughout the day & every morning at 7 30 am I’ve tried being nice explained I work nights and although they apologised nothings changed it’s horrible I go to work exhausted then can’t sleep when I come home what sealed the decision to buy them & put them up was when my daughter was singing in her room the other day at 6pm then they had a had the audacity to shout shut up & bang on the walls.. Still I am not a bad person so keep umming & awing about taking them down but I don’t think I will I want to bring them some of the stress they have bought me.

Wind chimes wouldn't bother me! But I seem to be in the minority. 😂

I worked night shift for years, I understand that it is frustrating trying to sleep during the day. If it isn't your neighbour, children will pass, playing ball, traffic, the whistle of the postman, birds singing. The world won't change because you work night shift.
Can you look for another job.

So did I. Weekend were the worst because there was always someone mowing the lawn. I found some kind of white noise, in the form of radio 4, evened it all out for me. Even now, some 30 years later, talk radio or a podcast sends me straight off to sleep.

Tape it all and play it back during the night whilst you are at work. Especially the dog barking!!!

Opera. Max volume.

I would MUCH rather have the dog barking!!

@Stargirl33 Does DD have a yearning to learn how to play the bagpipes or the drums??

UnicornBubble · 16/04/2025 20:15

I mean, wind chimes are pretty mild, it’s not like you’re belting out karaoke songs at every hour - we get this from our neighbours 2 doors away! Like we all wanna be hearing that above the sound of our TVs/music!!
I’d hate to be right next door to them!

Northernladdette · 16/04/2025 23:04

Are they renting or buying? If they’re renting speak to the landlord about their inconsideration?

Who puts wind chimes inside the house?

Me.

Emmz1510 · 17/04/2025 23:10

This would make me want to move as I cannot fucking abide constantly barking dogs. I get the idea behind the wind chimes, but won’t it just make them even less inclined to try to address the problem?
Yeah it’s not their fault you work nights, but they should at the very least be trying to curb their noise so early in the morning.
Try a firmly but politely worded note like

’Hi neighbour. As you know I work nights and it would be really great if you could try to settle your dog down particularly in the morning. There is also a lot of other noise like doors slamming/shouting/ (whatever it is) and I would really appreciate if you could try to keep it down’

Kardamyli2 · 18/04/2025 21:23

speakers against the shared wall and some obnoxious music (choose whatever you think they'll hate most) at full volume when you go out will give them a taste of their own medicine.

Plmnki · 18/04/2025 21:54

have similar neighbour with barking dog. He says confidently “dogs, like children, cannot be told to be quiet” (he’s a fuckwit - can you tell?)

his dog barks from 7am to 11pm, in and out of the house. It’s unbearable.

So we would not dream of pissing about with wind chimes, what are trying to do, relax them?

an alternative idea.

we put a Bluetooth speaker hard up against their bedroom wall and played a compliation of really loud barking noise from YouTube. At 7.30am, thats about 30 mins after their stupid yappy mutt starts.

that way they can enjoy lots of barking since it must be a sound they enjoy.

absolute pricks.

Forget the hippy biodynamic wind chimes and go YouTube raking festival.

Ladylalaboo1 · 19/04/2025 00:20

This is like an episode of the middle but it’s switched where the annoying neighbours buy tonnes of wind chimes and she goes mad and tears them all down 🤣 sorry just reminded me of it!

Saphire123 · 20/04/2025 00:20

If you want to see how wind chimes can make a steamy scene incredibly sex charged, watch the film Body heat.
I started collecting them after watching that film....and live in hope.❤
