to find shopping in The Range really annoying?

Yes I know I can shop elsewhere but they are one of the few places that sell the items I need.

Firstly the price labels often don't match the item on so many lines. I have got caught out so many times. The staff member said the staff just get the products out and don't care if they don't match.

Secondly, they start the we are closing announcements over the tannoy 30 minutes before closing saying that customers need to make their way to the checkouts. 30 minutes before closing? Then when I do get to the checkout there is one member of staff on the tills dealing with a massive queue of customers and they end up closing late anyway.

I love how it is an eclectic mix of products .. you can buy pretty much anything there!! However, you're right... It isn't as clear as supermarkets or similar homeward stores when it comes to pricing!! I love how cheap it is though, it's generally got so many bargains!!

ErinAoife · 11/04/2025 16:50

I love the range. Never had any issue with thw one I go to regarding closing time line

user2848502016 · 11/04/2025 17:00

I hate the range tbh, it’s annoying as it’s one of the only places around us with decent craft supplies but staff are rude and checkout is always slow. It used to have a nice cafe and customer toilets but that’s closed now

UndermyShoeJoe · 11/04/2025 17:01

They also seem to only have one member working check out that goes at the speed of a sloth and god help if there is an issue you’ll end up with four sloths at the till while the line of people waiting grows and grows.

goingtotown · 11/04/2025 17:15

Staff not interested in the job, the store is always a mess. It’s a pleasure to go to Dunelm..

amele · 11/04/2025 17:29

I stopped going there when they decided to add Iceland in the middle of their store! Just feels cheap now

I agree. The Range near me is cramped and chaotic, the staff don't seem to give a shit and it mostly seems to sell useless shite.

Dunelm is far better, and the staff in there are helpful and friendly.

sameshizz · 11/04/2025 17:35

Totally agree about the labels , literally everytime I want to check the price on something it’s got no label or the wrong one

Willowback · 11/04/2025 17:36

I think it depends on the store the one nearest us is shocking, it smells awful and is really dirty I would never buy anything out it. There's one a bit further away which is quite nice!

SlashBeef · 11/04/2025 17:37

I cannot stand it. I prefer B&M because it just is what it is. The Range feels like B&M in a tarty outfit.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 11/04/2025 17:38

We have 3 branches within 10 minutes of us….. but I still rarely manage to get what I wanted!

And the insane volume and frequency of their tannoy is awful, makes my ears ring.

I still end up going there a fair bit though despite my grievances.

UndermyShoeJoe · 11/04/2025 17:40

I like Homebargains best out of B&m, the range see also QD hate it.

QD is like a tarted up carboot sale Frankly.
Then B&m, then the range because of the garden bit but winner is Homebargains for the use types of store.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/04/2025 17:45

Should really be called The Rage because I hate the place that much. Awful nonsensical layout, rude staff, slow queues.

B&M on the other hand ♥️.

Backagainformorepunishment · 11/04/2025 17:47

If they are consistently displaying goods with the wrong prices then you should report the shop to Trading Standards.
They are breaking the laws designed to protect the customer by misleading customers.
When I received training to work in a supermarket it was impressed on us the importance of displaying the correct price labelling because if Trading standards did a spot check and wrong prices were being displayed the shop would be liable for a fine.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/04/2025 17:47

@SlashBeef The Range feels like B&M in a tarty outfit.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. So true!

HonoriaBulstrode · 11/04/2025 18:04

I like the range (!) of stuff they sell. I have bought some nice things in my local one. But it's a nightmare trying to find what you want - no storeguide or signage and never anyone to ask. I would spend more money in there if I could find what I wanted easily. I usually pick up one thing then give up in frustration.

I still miss Wilkos. My local one was a big one on two floors, laid out with plenty of space so you could see what was where.

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 11/04/2025 18:10

I went earlier this week. Young teen on the till. The item scanned at a higher price so she rang for assistance. The 'supervisors' were having a chat on the till next to her and when she pressed her buzzer they walked away. The girl told me they ignore her all the time. Eventually one supervisor came and sighed and rolled her eyes as if exasperated as the girl explained the issue. If that's the way they treat their staff, am not surprised they can't retain them.

SeaSwim5 · 11/04/2025 18:12

Personally I find The Range stores really depressing and now avoid going in them.

I suspect it’s the chaotic atmosphere, bleak decor, what should be homely items displayed like a warehouse and general plastic tat.

I start feeling sad whenever I go into The Range or Dunelm, which doesn’t happen in any other stores! Does anyone else find the same?

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 11/04/2025 18:19

Then when I do get to the checkout there is one member of staff on the tills dealing with a massive queue of customers and they end up closing late anyway.

Presumably that’s why they start the announcements 30 minutes before closing- they know the queue at the till is going to be huge/slow moving. Guessing they’ve had their budget cut regarding hours like many retailers seem to be doing which is why there’s only one person on the tills- all the other staff will be trying to get all the close jobs done so they can leave as close to the official end of their shifts.

Not saying YABU btw just that I empathise with the staff as a retail worker myself. And it’s not ok the shelf ticket prices don’t match the item they’re in front of.

Moonlightdust · 11/04/2025 18:27

Yes only one person on the till yet you seem to always find a member of staff loitering down every aisle you turn.
I think they have a short return policy there or at least they used to as I recall returning things in the past being a nightmare.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/04/2025 18:29

@SeaSwim5 Yep same. Almost from as soon as I walk in I want to walk back out again. Doesn't happen anywhere else (except for M&S at Christmas).

PalePinkPeony · 11/04/2025 18:32

Yes feel totally bleak when walking into one. They do good craft stuff and the occasional home thing or Xmas decoration.
And why are there so many dogs allowed there? In our local one, people just wander in with their dog on a leash and shop with their dog. Don’t get this anywhere else.

FeedTheRoses · 11/04/2025 18:37

The queues.
A new one opened locally, it’s very much like a supermarket than other ones we’ve visited, except for the tills.

They have one to the left, and two more doubles, so could have I think 5 running at one time, but the most I’ve seen is 4.

They have you queuing away from the tills, then you are called.
They are incredibly slow

One day we just left our trolley and walked out. We’d stood for 10 or 15 minutes already, as well as walking around the large store to find things. It could have been longer.

We left and went to Home Bargains instead, which is next door, much busier, with much better operated and organised manned tills.

Altogether a nicer experience, and I don’t love either shop.

FeedTheRoses · 11/04/2025 18:48

I like Dunelm, but they can be a little chaotic, on line though it’s like a whole other experience.

The stores need to up their game a little more, the online experience, looks so much better quality.

But regardless of this Dunelm, is way way above the awful Range, cheap and cheerful Home Bargains does well, and the staff always seem pleasant and happy, and is so much nicer than B&M Bargains.

I was impressed with the attitude of Home Bargains management when they took on some bright but struggling workers with slight special needs I was working with. They were really welcoming , and it’s very positive to see.

Mumofyellows · 11/04/2025 18:52

I absolutely detest The Range! It's so chaotic, always queues and the staff absolutely do not care. Ditto B&M.
I like home bargains much better.
