Blue badge police again

Name changes for this as I do every so often.
I have blue badge but my disability is not visible.
For the 3rs time in 2 weeks I have been challenged about not looking disabled and I am fed up of explaining myself

yesterday got out the car and this man came charging towards me shouting “oi you don’t have a blue badge”. I sighed and said “yes I do”. He then said “where did you nick that from?”
I said “I didn’t nick it from anyone I got it off eBay”
He then looked at me and said “oh right and walked off”
as if that was then ok!!!!
or it could be my built like a brick shithouse husband opened his door and got out the drivers seat.

I know I should not have said the eBay comment but I am fed up of explaining myself.

if anyone has any good comebacks please let me know

When they say you don't look disabled just reply 'you don't look stupid but the world's full of surprises'.

Can't say I've ever had this but I did once have a woman give me filthy looks because I used my badge in a disabled space that she wanted to park in and use as a parent and child bay because she had a car full of kids and seemed to think her need for the disabled place as a parent trumped my need with blue badge.

Orangemintcream · 11/04/2025 10:02

Presumably “Not all disabilities are visible you idiot” ?

LadyKenya · 11/04/2025 10:03

Maybe the best thing would be to scrap the blue badge scheme entirely, then the problem of the BBP goes away.

Hmm

I can never understand blue badge holders moaning about this. Can they not see that the person doing the asking is trying to protect the blue badge holders right to that space?

In the current society there are not many people who will actually put themselves out for whats right and wrong. See someone getting beaten up, turn away. See someone stealing, turn away. See someone parking in a disabled space to protect their Range Rover, turn away.

So once in a while they get it wrong and ask someone with a not obvious disability if they are genuine. Is that such a hardship for someone actually having some social concerns?

Or maybe they just start to wonder if its worth it, ignore it all and let blue badge holders cry about lack of parking in future because no one gives a stuff.

Why do you think you have the right to know what someone's disability is?
Mind your own FUCKING BUSINESS!

Tessasanderson · 11/04/2025 10:04

And there we go. What nonsense.......

I have no part in the game, i dont need a blue badge etc but i feel sorry for any blue badge holder that cant get parked if someone is abusing the system.

Oh well, not that i have ever questioned someone about it but its another social issue i wont give a toss about in future.

Let them sort their own issue out

Maybe it's just none of their business?

Gettingbysomehow · 11/04/2025 10:06

I'm sick to death of these people. I have crippling arthritis and need various joint replacements. I had one good day after taking tramadol and managed to walk to the pharmacy without my three wheeler and this woman shouted at me about not being disabled. It's the first good day I've had in months.

NotACold · 11/04/2025 10:06

Happens to me a lot. I just say ‘I understand that I don’t look disabled but I am - in the same way you don’t look ignorant but clearly are’

Would you be happy for someone to accuse you of faking your disability? Because that's what it really is - they can't see it therefore you're in their eyes lying

Yes let them, because the so called helpful BB police, are nothing of the sort, and could actually be causing harm to some people, who they are wrongly approaching, demanding reasons why they have parked in a BB space. They have no right to do that, and should mind their own business.

Don't be so sure you won't give a toss about it in future. Anyone can have accidents leading to a disability. Even you.

UrsulasHerbBag · 11/04/2025 10:08

Oh heavens! The BBP have turned up. Tell them to fuck off or fake a seizure (not really but it would be tempting). Seriously nobody is questioning disabled people because they are worried about the spaces being misused. They are doing it because they think disabled people are getting something they are not.

Sheeparelooseagain · 11/04/2025 10:09

"Can they not see that the person doing the asking is trying to protect the blue badge holders right to that space?"

Can they not see the Blue Badge on the vehicle?

Hoppinggreen · 11/04/2025 10:09

While I do think that people who aggressively challenge people who park in these spaces are a bit over the top I think the real ire should be reserved for people who uses these spaces without a badge.
My Mum was a wheelchair user and so I have very little time for twats who use the spaces with NO Blue Badge - and no, it doesn't matter if you are pregnant or your leg hurts or you won't be a minute, the spaces are for people with BLUE BADGES. No Blue Badge park elsewhere
I have asked very politely before (when I was with my Mum and needed the space) if someone was a Blue Badge Holder when one wasn't visible and been told to F off

It's bloody rude!!

Why should ANYONE have to discuss their private medical history with a total stranger in public?

Would you?

They have a badge. Job done.

WTF is wrong with you?

Dotjones · 11/04/2025 10:00

I think this thread shows you just can't win. The BBP no doubt take their imaginary authority too far sometimes in the same way the real police do, but if nobody challenges fraudulent BB users then that makes it more difficult for genuine users to park. The BBP are just doing a lower scale version of a citizen's arrest, they believe they are justified and accept the risk of a punch in the mouth. That some innocent people get falsely accused is just collateral damage, in the same way some innocent people end up arrested and even convicted and imprisoned for offences they didn't commit.

Maybe the best thing would be to scrap the blue badge scheme entirely, then the problem of the BBP goes away.

Oh bore off.

You’re just another of those who are insanely (and I mean that in the truest sense) jealous that disabled people can get something you can’t. No way is it about ‘protecting’ the spaces for those you believe to be sufficiently disabled. People who make this excuse are pathetic.

Want my parking space? Then feel free to have my miserable fucking disability.

That's fine. If there is no badge you can't park there and should be challenged

But if you have a badge the rest of the world can MIOB

Bobbie1976 · 11/04/2025 10:11

Right behind you it's disgusting, the misuse by some people. Where I used to work, a man would regularly use a blue badge and then be seen running up the corridor faster than an able bodied person.

My family and I saw a girl at a shop park in a space, without a badge and when she was challenged, she shouted 'NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE'. Whereas she is correct, if she was truly disabled, she should have a badge regardless. I thought that was disgusting.

Another man I know tells everyone his daughter is autistic so can't stand in queues for the likes of theme parks so gets a special pass. He also made sure he got a sunflower lanyard during Covid for his lung condition which he doesn't have.

itsgettingweird · 11/04/2025 10:12

I love that response 😂

Mh ds doesnt “look” disabled. But he’s a wheelchair user and when I get out before him I get looks.

They look away hurriedly when I go and get his wheelchair out the boot!

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 11/04/2025 10:12

It’s very difficult to get a Blue Badge, my Mum really had to battle to get hers and it’s a God send.

Next time say “thanks for checking, I’ve gone through the rigorous process to qualify for the Vadge, have a great day”.

don’t get me started on the people that stop in the bay as “they are just picking someone up”

Topsyturvy78 · 11/04/2025 10:13

Some people are idiots I remember that man that punched another man in the face in an Asda carpark fell back hit his head and died. In interview he made out the man he punched was the aggressor. It also came out that both men's wives were the blue badge holders not them.

Sheeparelooseagain · 11/04/2025 10:15

"The BBP are just doing a lower scale version of a citizen's arrest, they believe they are justified and accept the risk of a punch in the mouth."

No they usually target people who look more vulnerable than themselves because they don't want to get a punch in the mouth.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 11/04/2025 10:15

I’ve asked where they got their medical degree from before now and mri level eyesight.

Tessasanderson · 11/04/2025 10:15

So much anger towards posters who essentially are trying to say that we wish it was straightforward and BB users got to park without any issues, without any questions etc etc. That would be lovely for all concerned.

Happy to leave you to your anger. I was trying to offer support and a slightly different angle on the issue of someone asking. Oh well, not my battle
