Do you think they have attitude generally? is it more the teenage evening/weekend staff would you say? They are dreadful near us

I work in one

I'm known for being polite, bubby,my 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude and for being 'fun'

One lady said to me the other day 'i love it when your in,the energy changes' (which I found lovely)

However, they employ a lot of teenagers-some have the 'I can't be bothered' attitude (not all-some are amazing and real team players)

I'll be running around, trying to get orders out while they stand chatting In the corner or moving so slowly, they make a sloth look like road runner

We have an amazing manager who kicks arse but some of the shift managers are the same as the teens (not all but enough)

Team that with arsey customers, teenagers trying to vape/smash the place up/drunks and druggies in the toilets/kids making a mess everywhere while the parents smile at them/people who think hitting/grabbing me over something minor will make me work harder/get what they want (happens about twice a month)

It's a hard job-you don't sit down at all, always have to be 'on' even when you just want to sit and cry because somebody has screamed in your face again,it's boiling hot, food isn't coming out of the kitchen because someone's pissing about and the work bully is gobbing off again because she wants to be seen as working hard while doing nothing

I've seen things that would make your hair curl and just had to deal with it and get on with it

They do have very high standards but that only works if someone is there 24/7 to crack the whip (not literally)

What's happening in the photo?

Half an hour? It´s FAST food, not a made from scratch paella...

Which is frustrating but on a day when the menu has changed and people are queued out of the door, stuff is going to be delayed. As you say, it’s a fast food joint which serves thousands of people every day, if you want guaranteed timeframes go to an empty store or buy a sandwich.

I also take the half hour with a pinch of salt, there was an incident at hours where someone threatened a member of staff and punched / broke the window because his burger was half an hour. When they went back and looked at the CCTV with the police, he’d been waiting 9 minutes. This is the sort of behaviour the staff have to deal with, and whilst there is an occasional one with poor social skills, the vast majority are amazing and it’s a job I couldn’t do in a lifetime.

@Ineedcoffee2021 I couldn't figure out what was happening in that picture - had to google it.

So they're trying to dry a mop under the heat lights?

Correct - with fries sitting under said lights

According the the woman who took the original video, the floor had just been mopped and this is what happened next

Rewis · 11/04/2025 12:05

I use the machine so no need to communicate

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 11/04/2025 12:07

Brixton one is one of the most dangerous in South London. I wouldn’t venture into the Peckham one again, voluntarily either.

I worked for McDonalds in the 90s. Crap pay, creepy managers and high strees work environment. The customers were hardly peachy either. No wonder some employees look very grumpy.

FatherFrosty · 11/04/2025 12:09

I’m not sure I’ve come across unfriendly ones for a long long time.
weirdly the local one doesn’t employ teens.

Vitrolinsanity · 11/04/2025 12:12

No problem at all with the staff.

Massive issue with the number of bike couriers and the touch screen order boards.

Peanut91 · 11/04/2025 12:16

I took my kids for a McDonald's yesterday and the staff were very helpful. One in particular offered to get some crayons and activity sheets for the kids and was very apologetic when I burger was forgotten from my order

Lindolander · 11/04/2025 12:18

I don't go very often and if I do I order from the app, but they always seem very friendly. Usually they ask me to park up and the person who brings my food out always seems very pleasant. One time they took ages and I didn't say anything because it was a very busy time and when I got home I noticed they'd refunded the whole bill, presumably because I'd passed some wait limit.
My friend's daughter worked in McD's whilst in 6th form and it was hard work for low pay with some bloody awful customers, so I always appreciate anyone who works in fast food places.

My 17 yr old son is working p/t at McDonald’s. The way the public think it’s acceptable to treat customer facing staff is absolutely shocking. I think everyone should do a customer facing job at some point to see the abuse the staff get. Maybe the staff at your particular location have a hard time. Be it customers, their manager, wages etc

Anyone who treats customer facing staff badly is just scum, really

BobbyBiscuits · 11/04/2025 12:26

In what way? You order from a screen and they hand you the food when it's ready? There's virtually no direct interaction with them.
Before they had the screens etc I can't say I've ever had an issue with them at all. Over the course of my whole life.

I can imagine it's not the best place in the world to work so I don't expect them to look joyous. They can't ask for tips.

There was one shifty burger king manager who I think was stealing from the tills. But other than that fast food staff are always fine. They don't need to give me a massage or invite me round their house for tea?!

faerietales · 11/04/2025 12:27

I've never had an issue with the staff at McDonald's - they've always been perfectly friendly.

user2848502016 · 11/04/2025 13:05

All seem to be students with part time jobs in my local one, no issues from staff but some customers could definitely behave better!
They are generally slower though, get asked to park and wait a lot when using the drive through and that’s just for standard orders not customised

Enko · 11/04/2025 13:07

I live in SE. Never had one unpleasant or anything but polite

LazyArsedMagician · 11/04/2025 13:25

They've renovated basically all of them near us (city ones) and so now, they prioritise Ubers etc. before any other customers. I don't go through Drive Thru unless I'm just getting one sneaky meal, as every single time something is forgotten or wrong when I'm ordering five meals.

If I go in, yes there are some staff who are fine, but in general, they are kids in their early 20s at oldest who just cba. While I get that, they are also frequently rude and what seems to be deliberately slow. Last time I went, I parked up and went in and my food took over 30 minutes - while I was waiting, two other people came in because their Drive Thru meals were just completely wrong.

SallyD00lally · 11/04/2025 13:30

I live in a busy part of London and so I'm thinking about the 4 or 5 McDonald's in the surrounding area, and the staff seem perfectly fine.

I wouldn't say they're particularly young either, as ages seem to range from about 18 to 60+.

Very diverse in terms of nationality too, in fact I don't think there's anything I could really generalise about.

ADifferentSong · 11/04/2025 13:31

We don’t get McDonald’s that often and are quite random in where we go, but I’ve never had any problems

WillimNot · 11/04/2025 13:37

In ours they all struggle with English so we gave up going. Every time we went the order was always wrong. Then the manager would get the arse when you dared suggest you should get the food you paid for, not half an order.

Not a fan of McDonalds as a corporation anyway, the way they reacted regards female staff being harassed by bosses is shocking.

SausageShop · 11/04/2025 13:38

To echo a lot of the posts here, I worked in McDonald's from 17-22 while completing my nurse training. The abuse we got was disgusting.

A big stocky 'man' threatened to drag me outside by my hair because his big mac (which he'd eaten 90% of) didn't look as tidy as the picture on the advert. I hadn't made it.

So many looked down on us all as if we were stupid purely because we worked there - in fact most of us were working full time as well as studying.

I do often feel when I go in there now that the staff often have less social skills than when we worked there - but I think that's a societal thing rather than a McDonald's thing!

Ahsoka2001 · 11/04/2025 13:43

After working in customer service myself (not McDonalds but something similar) I've decided I'm always gonna stick up for any service workers I see facing abuse when I'm out - whether that's McDonalds or anywhere else. If they wanna get aggressive with me then so be it, it'll help toughen me up for when it happens at my job. At least I'll be re-directing the aggression away from the workers

FigTreeInEurope · 11/04/2025 13:48

Our local one has a wierd guy with big shoes, and a yellow rompa suit. Gives me the fear.

OldCottageGreenhouse · 11/04/2025 15:03

They’re definitely trained in good customer service but obviously it hasn’t got through to them all. I worked for McDonald’s in 2000 and our franchisee would’ve cooked me on the burger grill if I behaved in any way less than excellent. I was only 15 at the time and I said back to a customer “Yes you did…” when she denied having ordered something and omg! She had me in the top floor office and shouted at me. I got a stern lesson in customer service that day which served me well!
Definitely complain

Moier · 11/04/2025 15:08

My ASD Grandson age 20 works part time at McDonald's..
Honestly he's the most polite / caring young man.. but the stories he tells.. the abuse he gets from customers is disgusting... being shouted for the smallest of things that can easily be resolved if the customers were more polite.
