I’m not really sure how I feel about this.

On one hand it all seems consensual and fine, and nice that they’re all happy.

On the other it seems yet more expansion of surrogacy-type science, making pregnancy/babies a sort of human right that we should go to any lengths to make possible for people. And all the ethical/moral issues around that.

What do you think?

have not met many trans people.

On the contrary. We've met more than a few. People like yourself don't seem to have met any, at all.

That is very clever of you to know all of my friends, family, colleagues and service users. Such arrogance!

It does help women. I watched this person on the news- she was female

It was a selfish want, at the expense of her sister. It is exploitation. Exploitation is not helpful to women.

What I'm taking from this is that you have children of your own but feel entitled to comment on what other people who aren't as fortunate as you should be allowed to do.

Edited

I don't have biological children of my own.

This is a certain section of the female population on here. Dont be so naive to think mumsnet represents women as a whole. A lot of hatred on here, a lot of anti men.

"anti men" 🙄And there we have it.

TheGentleOpalMember · 09/04/2025 07:21

Winifredtabago · 09/04/2025 07:13

Do you know these people? I bet you havent even seen them talking about it otherwise you wouldn't be saying these things.

Have you not read the articles?

What are reproductive organs if not sexual?

There is no hate in my posts, just detached reality.

Regardless of whether you want to term it reproductive or sexual the point is you have a problem with the donation of an organ that only women have. Due to your hatred of men. That's the issue for you. If you had an accident or illness and needed something from a deceased person (albeit not life saving) and the doctor said 'sorry we have organs available from people who wished to donate organs after death but we are not going to operate on you as apparently you are against it so you can go home now'. I think you would be wishing you had a different outlook on organ donation.

Yet you made this arrogant comment: As for those who think trans women will be having womb transplants all over the place because trans is a fetish have not met many trans people.

Wow. 😂 I don't have a 'hatred of men'. I have a hatred of selfish people, including selfish women like the woman in this story. Where is the man in this story?

And wombs are not necessary transplants, it's not a heart or kidney - so your accident argument is weird and doesn't make sense.

So this is a 'false article'? https://www.thesun.co.uk/health/34329085/womb-transplant-baby-hope/ It is literally the OP, and literally the reason we are having this conversation.

There isn’t room in the male pelvis for a baby to grow. A male cannot supply all the nutrients, vascular connections and anti-rejection components (along with everything else) a foetus requires. This is pure science-fiction and scaremongering.

I would also have said that men cannot breasrfeed as they need a high amount of drugs for a very long time to induce lactation, but hey, breastfeeding organisations are all for it and even expel women who object to experimenting on babies.

TheGentleOpalMember · 09/04/2025 07:29

Winifredtabago · 09/04/2025 07:25

Exploitation is not feminist.

I agree, luckily it worked out. The recovery for her sisters body and her own, risking their quality of life, even death, by going through the surgery, her sisters children could have been left without a mother.
It would have been easier to carry the child for her.
The medication to prevent the womb rejecting would not be good for the baby either.

For everyone who is saying transplants into men is not on the horizon

A truly novel approach that is now being explored seriously is UTx for transgender (TG) women. Although TG UTx has long been discussed at a high level both within the transgender community and among uterus transplant programs, there are now several teams that are actively working to bring this procedure to clinical reality. The first uterus transplant in a transgender female in the twenty-first century is anticipated to take place within the next few years, if not sooner.

I'm not talking about feminism. This is a procedure that benefits women. End of. It's nothing to do with feminism.

Well let's hold our breaths shall we. You do realise the number of men wishing to get a womb transplanted into them and give birth will be very rare. Almost entirely transgender I would imagine. They can already have kids through adoption surrogacy etc so this would just be the next step.

This article still mentions the same hefty barriers to male pregnancy that I mentioned before. They’re unlikely to resolved in the space of a few years for end-goal that wastes scientific resources (IMO). For women? I’m fine with it. Men? Never.
