To ask if you had 6 girls age 11-13 for a sleepover ?

Loveduppenguin · 06/04/2025 11:19

So it’s my DD’s birthday and she’s having a sleepover with the girls from her class. Their ages are similar. The youngest is 11 years 8 months and the oldest is 13 years 1 month.
Out of interest, what activities would you expect them to be doing? As in how would you expect them to entertain themselves on the sleepover? I don’t know whether to be pleasantly surprised or a little bit worried. 🤣 I’ll give information once I’ve had some replies.

The phone thing is very weird. Some kids like to text their parents at night.. Mine is 15 and was texting me late when at a sleepover ok Friday.

Edited

I said to them, call or phone your parents if you need I’m removing phones in 10 mins…none of them did…as I said none of the parents took issue. They all do the same.

When my dd was 16 she had a sleepover after the GCSEs and they dyed their school shirts pink and wrote some slogan from Mean Girls on them with glitter pens (ready to wear for the last day and shirt signing)and then they played Guess Who.

Making popcorn, building pizzas, watching a film, doing make up. Staring at phones… staying up all night

This really.

ok so quite varied which is essentially what they did.
they did an activity outside of the house
then we came back to the house and I left them to it for a while… this is when they proceeded to go outside in the garden and play
Hide and seek
Sardines
Hung out on the patio and played while I can describe as a “try not to laugh game/challenge”
Then they came back in and ate an obscene amount of sweets 🤣 and watched a bit of a movie
Then set up the kitchen where they made pizzas. They ate the pizzas and watch the rest of that movie.
They did each other’s hair
They did no TikTok’s because none of them are allowed TikTok. I took their phones off them at 9 o’clock anyway.
I don’t think alcohol would even enter their heads to be honest.
They were up until about midnight.
They woke up this morning and I came in. They were watching Aladdin…
Then they had pancakes made by me
Since they have been playing a game that is like a cross between Nerf wars and I can’t even think of what the other part is based on.

so a lot of “playing” and I’m thinking this is lovely they’re very active they are a great bunch but they’re starting secondary school in September 🤣🤣

They sound like lovely kids.

She could just go down and get her phone though. If she needed to text her Mum. Or say ‘I’ll keep mine because I might need to contact my mum’. The op does not sound like a monster. I’m sure it would have been fine.

90s version 🤣

The best version !

Ah I love them too, to be honest. They’re a great bunch, I just hope secondary school and teenage years don’t ruin that 😢

Are they all going to the same secondary?

absolutely, if any of them want their phone back to text their mum/dad about anything or called them for a minute I would definitely give the phone back. They know me quite well and relaxed with me so if they have any issues, they would talk to me too.

If mine is involved probably summoning demons. She knows it's banned in the house.

I quite agree. If you are not prepared to trek out to a blasted heath, you don't do it at all.

I remember making a Ouigi board with my friends when I was 10…absolutely frightened the bejesus out of ourselves 🤣

Heath?? We aren't a million miles from pendle hill, a heath wouldn't be good enough.

I don't mind the attempts to summon demons since I know they'll fail but the chalk marks from the pentagram can be a pain to clean up.

Edit for spelling

Oh, that's a shame for her 🥲

Hopefully the others will still make an effort to include her in out of school activities 👍🏻😊

I don’t think she minds…although I didn’t ask her that. I know she has a cousin who she is close to starting there too, it’s more of a logistics reason I think. Hopefully they’ll stay in touch.

Making pizzas, making smoothies, eating sweets and crisps, taking self-esteem, watching films (13 going on 30, Mean Girls, Legally Blonde etc), playing in the garden - we have a large swing set and monkey bars that they can still fit on - playing with the guinea pigs, face glitter.

user2848502016 · 07/04/2025 08:00

Sheet face masks, watching a film, making popcorn, that sort of thing. Wouldn’t expect to have to do anything to entertain them

How are they only starting secondary school in September if some of them are already/nearly13?

I know the school systems are a bit different in Scotland and Ireland than Eng and Wales but even then I thought the absolute youngest you'd be starting secondary was 12? 13 and a half seems very old to be in the first year of secondary.

Only because if you are out of the UK/NI there might be different cultural context of whats expected of pre-teens

Thirteenblackcat · 07/04/2025 08:13

We had a sleepover when my daughter was in year 7 and never again

Not sure where OP is, but I’m in Ireland (ROI) and mine were 13 when they started secondary, nearly 13 and a half really.

Yep I’m in Ireland where they start school at any age from 4 to 6. The youngest has just turn 4 starting and the oldest was 5 1/2. They start secondary school in September.
primary here has 8years.
