I don’t know how to lose weight! Have been on Mounjaro since beginning of January, did everything according to instructions, and on 7.5 ml, but haven’t lost even a pound. Have never been so heavy and heartbroken in my life. Have plantar fasciitis in both feet since November, it is getting better, but still can’t walk for more than 5 minutes without pain. Have to take ibuprofen just to go for food shopping. Am on sick leave since end of January, as my job involves lots of walking (hospital). Did a bit of gardening last week and couldn’t walk for 3 days afterwards. Any type of exercise is out of the question at the moment.
Keep seeing adds for HYPNO weight loss. Tried hypno years ago face-to-face, but it didn’t work at all.
I am 53, in the throes of menopause and absolutely nothing I can do! I eat heathy, no junk whatsoever, my problem is portion sizes.
Has anybody have any ideas why mounjaro did not work on me?
I weight 21 stone at present!!!!

Keep going with MJ. You have a few months before you get to the 15 mg dose.

Start swimming and weightlifting sitting down.

MJ works for me but it is no miracle. It is still hard work. Exercise and strict calorie control. The difference is MJ allows me to do this consistently.

I have an autoimmune metabolic disorder so WL is harder for me but not impossible on MJ. I also have PF in one foot.

I realized just how much I overate on calories before and even a couple of hundred of calories over and I don’t lose.

I have lost 38 lbs (starting weight 19 stone BMI 39) since Novemeber 1st but as I said it is slow and steady and requires strict calorie counting, fasting and exercise even with MJ.

I have zero side effects on MJ now I am on the 12.5 mg dose.

I didn’t get to 19 stone living like my slim friends and when I speak to them they all say they have to be strict especially after 50. I tried to convince myself they were naturally slim which, they quite rightly put me in my place and said actually we also have to work at it all the time. I was delusional about how I lived my life and now know to get to 19!stone even with my conditions was because I took in too many calories for my individual body calorie needs. Alas, my individual calorie needs are low due to my autoimmune metabolic disorder but now I know and with MJ by my side I am determined to lose the weight in the next 18 months.

MJ is a two year process too for many.

No idea about MJ but you need to do a very honest down to the last teaspoon analysis of everything you eat and drink each day, count the calories, reduce by 500+ calories a day and then reassess after a few weeks.

With weight loss it’s about diet, not exercise. Though as someone with plantar fasciitis (albeit not as severe as yours sounds) high quality inserts for shoes really helped me.

Foot inserts and calf / ankle stretches for plantar.

Do you drink a lot of diet drinks or fruit juice? Try switch to water or black coffee only - no sweeteners.

if you are sedentary your daily calorie requirement will be low, probably less than 1500.

You could try having two small but nutrient dense meals a day, on a 16;8 intermittent fasting.

If you are feeling brave or strong, a 72 hour water fast with black coffee and electrolytes May kick start your metabolism. Research before you do this to ensure you manage salt and magnesium levels.

Move as much as you can, it will help long term, even if you feel a bit sore and uncomfortable.

You can eat less without them.

You need to train yourself to eat less. As you're sedentary, aim for 1200 calories a day. You can go less only if you're very short (like me).

You'll be hungry at first as you're used to overeating, but hunger doesn't mean you have to eat. Your hunger isn't hurting you. Let it happen.

After a while your hunger signals will be less intense, without having to use drugs.

Is your appetite suppressed at all? For some people it's not until they reach the higher doses that appetite suppression kicks in.

You need to weigh and record everything you’re eating because in the majority of cases like this it will be because you’ve duped yourself into thinking you’re eating less than you are. Or from what you’ve said that the healthy food you have is counteracting the large portion sizes.

Best to ignore the comment about stopping mounjaro. If you want/need to stop it that’s obviously fine but people like us can’t just ignore those hunger signals and it can be hard for others to understand that. I’ve been using mounjaro for just over 7 months and I’m nearly 4.5stone down (I started at 22stone exactly). I would never have been able to get there without medication. I know this because I’ve spent 20 years trying.

I see mounjaro as a way to prop up my healthier lifestyle rather than doing all the work for me I suppose. I think in your case I would stick with it because there are some who get no suppression until the higher doses anyway but also do try to reduce your intake of food even though the suppression hasn’t happened. You may well find that you’re seeing it’s easier than you thought to eat less and therefore the mounjaro is having an effect at a lower dose even without you realising.

Count your calories. MJ isn’t a magic bullet, it just makes it easier to stick to a calorie deficit but you need to be in a calorie deficit in the first place, same as any other method to lose weight. Are you tracking your food?

You don’t need to do it forever but a week or two of counting gives you a baseline for what an appropriate amount of food for weight loss actually is.

What are you actually doing @iwanttohide. Have you tried seated exercise or swimming? Have you calculated your TDEE and are you eating in deficit? Are you weighing and tracking your food intake? How much water are you drinking everyday?

You say that portion sizes are an issue for you, if you are still eating too much, you won't lose weight, Mounjaro or not.

I’ve lost 16kg on Mounjaro since November. It was slow at first but then suddenly kicked on.

As this is about food reduction, I’d echo what people say about looking at what your intake is. Properly tracking and understanding what your calories in/calories out is.

Where's your evidence for that?

I take mounjaro and it's been life changing

I've read pretty much every research paper on the topic

I haven't seen anything damaging. There are of course v rare serious side effects. But every drug including antibiotics and ibuprofen have rare side effects.

Anyone 'can' eat less at any time but telling someone who has reached 21 stone to eat 1200 calories is just bloody ignorant. Weight loss drugs are designed for people like OP who have chronic obesity and hopefully if she sticks with it they will work for her. However she absolutely doesn't need to cut her calories to 1200. Where do you get off giving such ridiculous advice?

In what way? Where is the research that says they are 'damaging' to people with chronic obesity who use them to achieve healthy weight loss?

The benefits far out weigh any potential side effects. I would suggest you do your research. The NHS actually prescribe this drug for some patients, but apparently you know better 🤔

OP I've been losing weight since new years and am down 20lbs. I'd suggest getting an accurate idea of your maintenance calories.

People often confuse what is sedentary, moderately active lifestyles etc. This has really good descriptions of each category if mumsnet will let me post a link: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/

When you know what you actually need during this time you are off your feet, I'd suggest you then spend a few days measuring and working out what you are actually eating.

I also struggle with portion size, so my solution was to start eating at lunch and skip breakfast. Which essentially turns into intermittent fasting, which works for me, but not everyone.

plantar fasciitis is the most awful condition and having it in both feet must be so debilitating.It has to be a vicious circle for you if you can barely move around.
You have to keep a positive outlook and remember you've come quite far in even starting the process.We're only starting to make progress in dealing with obesity and I wish there were more advisors and assistance.The health service funded so many smoking cessation officers and there has to be an equivalence.

Plantar fascitis is the most debilitating pain, you have my sympathy there! Unfortunately it's only when I started losing weight that mine went but I never go barefoot, ever and I wear crocs all the time in the house.

With the Mounjaro, I'm on it too. Are you feeling appetite suppression at all? Or waiting to go up the doses more? Are you keeping a log of what you are eating each day?
