Like seriously, he spread marmite in DRY toast.

The man is clearly insane and we can't stay here any longer.

One of the major incompatibilities in my relationship is whether you have butter under peanut butter…

Agreed. Don’t get me started on when I saw Mr Scarlet put butter under cheese that he then toasted. That’s just soft fat with hard fat and must be …slimy?!

Don't get me wrong, cheese on toast is a gift from the culinary gods, but buttering the semi-toasted bread? Nope.

Compash · 30/03/2025 21:44

Leave his house immediately and nail the door closed behind you.

Run to your house, lock it, eat the key, and nail your door closed from the inside.

It's the only way.

SparrowFeet · 30/03/2025 21:45

No problem with jam or marmalade straight on. But marmite? Just no.

In fact how much marmite are we talking? Did the toast just rip to shreds with the thin spreading or did he go all in peanut buttter style?

FortyElephants · 30/03/2025 21:45

MagneticSquirrel · 30/03/2025 21:31

YABU. Is it just marmite on toast you feel this way about?

Is toast with only jam ok? (I never have butter and jam on toast!)

You monster!!

Tieo · 30/03/2025 21:45

That’s the best way to have it though, pure marmite 🤤

SparrowFeet · 30/03/2025 21:46

lapuf · 30/03/2025 21:41

I have had marmite at least daily for most of my 45 years and never had butter with it… ConfusedBlush
however, a crazy South African pal introduced me to Philadelphia on a toasted sesame bagel (marmite on one half, Philly on the other, meld together and let them melt/merge), and that was love at first (reluctant) bite Grin

This sounds lovely. I have it with cottage cheese.

Astrak · 30/03/2025 21:47

Butter is definitely required on toast before putting Marmite on it. Otherwise, it will taste as if you're eating it on one of those boot-cleaning mats!

nocoolnamesleft · 30/03/2025 21:49

There are some monsters on here. Clearly toast needs butter, before adding anything else.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 30/03/2025 21:50

@GiraffeCup I never eat butter on anything!!! different if it is baked in a cake but I can taste it in mashed potatoes or if a steak has been fried in it. horrible stuff.

Floranan · 30/03/2025 21:52

I tried to look on the bright side and point out at least it wasn’t Vegemite ! But really thinking about it there isn’t a bright side to this horrendous crime.

toast and marmite must have butter, not margarine - butter. Toast nice and brown cool but not cold thick layer of butter spread on but not scraped (mil would scrape) then a nice layer of marmite.

i can only hope your day got better

edit to add, I don’t add butter when I do marmite and cheese on toast, I love I marmite cheese toasty

But their marmite hotcross buns. Top

I am surprised to find people put butter on marmite toast🙈

alexdgr8 · 30/03/2025 21:55

Is he American?
They do funny things like that.
Seem to think butter is just for cooking.

BeaAndBen · 30/03/2025 22:26

@GiraffeCup you are clearly a weirdo.

Hot toast doesn't need anything added to the Marmite (exceot extra Marmite) because it melts beautifully and spreads well. It's only if you've let it go cold that you need butter or - shudder - other spreads. The Marmite purity does noit need to be disrupted on hot toast.

Once the temperature heads to tepid, yes, butter is required.

BrokenLine · 30/03/2025 22:27

Marmite in any form is a war crime.

LatteLady · 30/03/2025 22:33

It is just plain wrong, I suspect he failed to spread it all the way to the crusts and did not make soldiers. I think you may have to send for the priest as this is not natural... it may be demonic possession...

JohnTheRevelator · 30/03/2025 22:50

Just....how?! How do you spread Marmite on dry toast?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/03/2025 23:44

I like toast cold enough that the butter doesn’t melt, buttered almost thick enough to see tooth marks when you bite it, with lashings of marmalade. Sadly, since being diagnosed type 2 diabetic, toast and marmalade are but a distant memory.

Gettygrip · 30/03/2025 23:52

Please get out now before it’s too late !!

Moier · 30/03/2025 23:56

My American friends says I'm gross for buttering bread with any kind of topping or filling before hand .
Jam ( jelly ) only.. peanut butter only.
Fillings it's mayonnaise no butter.

CrunchyKnees · 31/03/2025 00:00

My youngest teen DS has started doing this now he’s making his own breakfast. I exclaimed in horror ‘where’s the butter??!!’ when I saw him do it for the first time. Then spent the rest of the day giving him the side eye, wondering if he was in fact MY child, strapping beauty that he is, or was swapped with a straight up marmite monster that time the midwives insisted on taking him to admire him while I nipped for a post birth shower.

He insists it tastes better without butter so the suspicion is still lingering.

Butter on ALL bread goods EXCEPT with jam or any other fruit topping is the LAW.

Soonenough · 31/03/2025 00:01

Marmite is minging in any shape or form
Peanutbutter straight on bread or toast ideally with jelly ( jam to most although grape jelly is wondrous thing ) in order to become PBJ never BPBJ.
Philadelphia on toasted bagel topped with chili jam relish or even cranberry sauce is a thing .
And so say all of US . 😛

QuickPeachPoet · 31/03/2025 00:10

Almost as bad as not liking marmite at all.
Or being like my uncle and not allowing it on the table

Isittimeformynapyet · 31/03/2025 00:16

TerroristToddler · 30/03/2025 21:37

Hate marmite so no idea about that…

but I am another who has jam and no butter. The two don’t work for me. One or the other is fine. For peanut butter I’d never add extra butter - I’d just spread PB directly on the toast and then add a dollop of jam!

Peanut butter is all wrong because the more you chew it the harder it gets to swallow!

It flies in the face of how food should behave.

Ughouchargh · 31/03/2025 00:21

Marmite on toast? Yum.
Marmite on butter on toast? Spew.
