Mothers Day matters most with young children

Just wondering if others share my opinion.

as DD gets to the older teen years, I’m realizing that Mother’s Day doesn’t matter as much as it did when she was a baby and young child. Being a mother isn’t as challenging and all-consuming of a task as your children age.

When you have young children or special needs children regardless of age and it takes all of your attention and energy, that day of acknowledgement means so much.

When they become more independent it feels a bit more like Valentine’s Day. It’s nice to get acknowledged, but it’s fine to
do something quick and simple.

It’s not an either/or. I make a fuss of my mum all the time. I send her little surprises sometimes, I treat her to outings and things when I can. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t also love being celebrated on Mother’s Day. I know full well that she’d feel sad if she was being ignored as a mum on Mother’s Day when other mums were being treated.

Also, Mother’s Day in the UK is Mothering Sunday and has been marked for centuries. It’s a date in the church calendar in relation to Easter and Lent. It was celebrated long before cards were invented. Live-in domestic servants used to get the day off specifically so they could travel home to see their mums and take a little gift.

I think it’s just as important at any age. Mothers don’t stop living and breathing that role. My DM is 90 and still worries about us and buys us and the GC gifts and treats.

Never bothered with it as a child my mother could not care less about it.
Now as an adult still dont care.
To me its like any other holiday just another reason to spend and out do the next or it cause just drama.
Hence why i dont do any of it xmas easter valentines and the rest of them but if its your kinda thing good for you.
Id rather get a flight and avoid it all.

Shall we forget about birthdays as well? commercial nonsense

Also don’t really get the hype about birthdays outside of childhood personally…
