How would you make this Tesco ready meal?

Really enjoyed this meal the other day and 100% know I can make it. Am an okay cook.

Im thinking you sauté garlic, onion and the leeks. Add some cooked chicken pieces (bite size). Combine with a cheese sauce. Sprinkle over some breadcrumbs and put under the grill for a few mins? Chuck on a tiny bit of fresh parsley at the end

Serve with baby potatoes and pile of veg.

How would you do it?

I would do it the same as you - the ready meal seems to have bacon too so I would saute that with the leeks etc. Hope it tastes as good as it sounds!!

Snorlaxo · 25/03/2025 12:18

You need to add bacon as well

KrisAkabusi · 25/03/2025 12:29

Why would you add cooked chicken pieces instead of just, you know, cooking some diced chicken?

oh I tend to just always have cooked chicken to hand as I have it in salads, wraps etc for lunches

Why just a tiny bit of parsley? Parsley is great and is worth adding loads in the sauce.

BigDahliaFan · 25/03/2025 12:32

I'd put a bit of white wine and mustard in the cheese sauce.

plutoi · 25/03/2025 12:32

I would do bacon but I’m trying to move away from eating mammals (ethical reasons). I know I’m highly inconsistent in that I had it with the ready meal but it’s a process. I’m trying to stick to chicken and seafood/fish. And then slowly cut those out too

I've no experience of these but surely the clue is in the name - ready meal, i.e. ready to eat, not eat after you've cooked it. That makes it a meal kit.....or am I missing something?

I’m wanting to recreate it

She wants to make it from scratch rather than pay Tesco for the ready assembled version.

LordEmsworth · 25/03/2025 12:39

Yes, you are being unreasonable. HtH.

AmIthatSpringy · 25/03/2025 12:42

YABU

and don't "chuck" the parsley. You might
miss the dish

I understood what OP meant very well. I have eaten that particular ready meal. It was OK but a HM version of this dish would be bloody lovely! I'd cook it in a similar manner and am actually very tempted to do so this week. Let us know how you get on @plutoi

I agree.

I thought it was obvious that OP was looking to recreate it

Nannyfannybanny · 25/03/2025 13:21

I do this in the oven, raw chicken breasts, cooked in foil for 15 minutes, then add the topping, lots of it! I also hate the idea of eating animals. I became vegetarian 50 years ago, after seeing hidden camera films,of cruelty and bad practices during slaughtering. )I will eat chicken occasionally, has to be free range (we used to have our own, not for eating, for the eggs)I don't eat bacon or red or white meat. Partly these documentaries and partly nursing....

Err... do you know what "vegetarian" means?

"A vegetarian who eats chicken" is even worse than "eating mammals is unethical, but all the other animals are morally unblemished"

Eat what you like, but don't pretend you have better morals than the rest of us because you only eat certain animals!

Did you see when I said I’m phasing out meat? In order for my vegetarianism to actually be sustainable

Everyone else got it (what with it being very obvious from the context)

This looks pretty much the same @plutoi

edited as link didn't add for some reason.

second edit as @BigDahliaFan has already posted the same recipe. I'm going to make it for dinner one evening as it sounds good

A rectangular chicken and leek bake with a serving spoon in it

Chicken and leek bake

The sweetness of leeks and the depth of flavour that chicken thighs and bacon bring, plus rich cheese sauce and crunchy breadcrumbs, makes for a comforting midweek meal

Erm, this one is on you lol. The OP was extremely self explanatory 😂

It was clear what she was asking.
