May we still crush the Patriarchy?

InformEducateEntertain · 23/03/2025 18:26

In the post Adolescence/ Gareth Southgate world is feminism as an act of war on the patriarchy still allowed?

Should we perhaps instead be letting our men hug it out whilst we deploy 🙌 emoji to show our support of the nümanosphere?

I’m genuinely confused as to the role of female empowerment in a world where the focus is currently back on men.

Are you on glue?

Errors · 23/03/2025 18:27

What?

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/03/2025 18:28

😕

No. Should I be? Would it help provide clarity?

Haven't seen it. I'd say yes, you are entitled to smash the patriarchy. Even if they're hugging each other.

sometimesmovingforwards · 23/03/2025 18:30

What in the world are you wittering on about back there?

StillweriseLH · 23/03/2025 18:31

May I suggest you take some water with that whisky?

millypeggyandpandora · 23/03/2025 18:32

nümanosphere?

Borris · 23/03/2025 18:33

What's Gareth Southgate got to do with it all?

Ok I’ll try again -

The last two weeks have seen a focus on young men and how society is failing them. Justified and the reasons are clearly laid out.

However I can’t help feeling that, despite this, the balance in life is still very much weighted in the favour of men.

Feels like pretty un PC to say it though.

I don’t understand why we can’t simultaneously make the world better for both sexes, personally.
Men with better role models will make better choices which impacts women positively.

millypeggyandpandora · 23/03/2025 18:32

nümanosphere?

The manosphere is the toxic place where young men are radicalised.

The nümanosphere is its touchy feely replacement.

OP posts:
YellowSpotty · 23/03/2025 18:36

The patriarchy isn't men.
Looking after our young men, ensuring they are happy, healthy and free to hug each other is part of smashing the patriarchy.

I still haven't fathomed the reference to Gareth Southgate. Maybe I need some glue or whiskey, then I'd get it? 😅

EmeraldRoulette · 23/03/2025 18:40

@InformEducateEntertain "Feels like pretty un PC to say it though"

why? Have you been chatting with handmaidens?

northwestgirl · 23/03/2025 18:40

yes, this
if you think there's a conflict between feminism and promoting positive values to boys and men tells me you haven't really understood feminism
I haven't heard Gareth Southgates lecture but I understand he is advocating for men to take some responsibility for tackling toxic masculinity (as opposed to blaming women/mothers for the state of the world and expecting us to make everything better)- to he is an ally in my book

Do you find any of this amusing? Because I don’t.

MoreDangerousThanAWomanScorned · 23/03/2025 18:44

The idea that smashing the patriarchy would ultimately be good for men and their mental and physical wellbeing is very much established mainstream feminism.

myplace · 23/03/2025 18:45

Helping these boys is smashing the patriarchy!

Men helping men be better is what feminists have been asking for, and is smashing the patriarchy.

Bringing up a generation of men who don’t plan violence towards women who fail to applaud them is smashing the patriarchy.

I’m happy to applaud men as they smash certain elements of the patriarchy, and carry on working for the bits I can do.

Yes I get that but it’s such a violent act.

Also whatever the philosophy there still feels like a them and us aspect to the whole thing.

i fully accept that my concerns are misplaced.

I will not be drinking Whiskey. Glue on the other hand…

Difficult to tell but I think the OP is trying far too hard to be amusing?

Probably anyway.

Who knows 😬

Penguinmouse · 23/03/2025 18:49

I understand what you’re saying OP - there is a real problem with men and boys thinking that feminism is a personal attack on them. Smashing the patriarchy would benefit both men and women - but how do we do it in a way that doesn’t feel like a personal attack? Similarly, how much should we care if men feel a bit upset when they’re the ones causing so many issues. I don’t particularly want to have to pander to incels to hope they don’t harm women and girls but we have to attack the root cause of misogyny.

Ddakji · 23/03/2025 18:54

I understand you perfectly, OP. And yes, it still needs smashing.
