To hate the new attached bottle caps

Honestly, it is a horrible design - the hanging cap makes it close to impossible to pour out a drink without it getting the liquid into the cap - meaning you need to wipe off the bottle after screwing it back on (if it's say milk or juice).
Also makes the flow more likely to go down the bottleneck too. Not to mention trying to drink out of the bottle with the cap still attached and getting in the way.
Pretty much you need both hands now for a simple task of pouring out or drinking out of a bottle !! One hand to keep the cap out of the way.
Just constantly annoying - I started cutting them off. I never lost a bottle cap in my life - who is this made for?

Apologies for the rant, but I am wondering what am I missing here.

Yeah I hate them too

MinnieCoops · 19/03/2025 19:49

I thought it was for eco reasons?

Fintoo · 19/03/2025 19:51

Are you pushing them right down? I only recently realised that you are supposed to do this, it does make it a lot easier to pour and drink if you do that.

Probably but doesn't make any sense. Responsible people recycled correctly anyway. Those who don't recycle - no attached cap will nudge them in the right direction. (No judgement passed)

I hate them too. I rip them off.

Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon · 19/03/2025 19:52

Just rip or cut it off.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/03/2025 19:54

I had one of those today. Didn't really think about it, but it did make the drink less enjoyable.

yeesh · 19/03/2025 19:55

i hate them

Sinkintotheswamp · 19/03/2025 19:57

I rip them off and twice I've cut my finger on the sharp leftover bit.

I'm a litter picker and never picked up that many lids. Cigarette litter is the real problem in this country. Billions of pieces of cigarette litter, that's rarely cracked down on.

BleachedJumper · 19/03/2025 20:01

God I hate them!

I find the design is very tricky to get a bottle opened at all, it seems like the lid is entirely fused together and took a ridiculous amount of strength before I gave up, I only managed to get one bottle open when I got home and ran a sharp knife around the join.

I then find, once you have got it open the lid doesn’t want to sit firmly closed as it’s out of alignment, so I’ve had lots of leaks in bags with drinks I thought were closed.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 19/03/2025 20:03

For me i can never get them to close properly so they leak. I've tried pulling them off completely but then you get long sharp bits of plastic i keep catching myself on.

1st world problem. They are there to stop people dropping litter.

bringonyourwreckingball · 19/03/2025 20:08

I hate them too. More than once had a bottle leak all over my bag because they are so hard to reattach properly. I always recycle including lids

Deedeesharpwhatkindoflady · 19/03/2025 20:08

They're a pita to put back on ,I cut them off.

Memorable · 19/03/2025 20:08

Agree op they’re awful. And pulling them off leaves a horrible sharp bit.

TheMissingLinkHasBeenFound · 19/03/2025 20:08

Just twist them off 🤷‍♀️

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 19/03/2025 20:10

I too cut them off, but the idea is apparently to stop the caps being separated from the bottles for recycling purposes.

We save all of our bottle caps and lolly sticks for our local school, to help with their art supplies anyway, so they're still being recycled, just in a different way.

How? If you drop bottle tops in the street surely you’re not going to care about chucking the whole bottle?

Don’t most people keep the top on the bottle and dispose of them both together anyway when they’ve finished?

Dinosaurus86 · 19/03/2025 20:11

Ugh yes. I bought a (bright purple) smoothie you have to shake before drinking (a small one, drinking from the bottle). It was dark, in the cinema, and the little bit that got shaken into the attached lid dripped all down my front.

Yes! They leak and mess up my bags, defeating the purpose of being a resealable bottle in the first place.

I'm guessing not or the design wouldn't have been implemented and I think I read bright colour caps cause a problem for birds who see them as food. Also better for recycling.

Honestly, I can't see the problem with them.

How do they stop people dropping litter?

I'm surprised you've only now come across this OP, the caps have been around for ages and they are blooming annoying

Bottle cap separated from bottle is harder to pick up, dispose of and recycle. I don't find them a problem, honestly. In the great scheme of things, they are designed to help the environment.

banivani · 19/03/2025 20:17

I don’t mind them, but I agree they are a little harder to open, like they’re fused too tight. I unscrew and make sure to push the cap open and back so it ”clicks” open and then I have no issues pouring or drinking.

Sinkintotheswamp · 19/03/2025 20:18

I've had a few leaks too, hence I now rip the lids off.

Bloody cable ties are also a massive litter problem. <<rages>>
