GrilledSamon · 19/03/2025 06:34

I’m 5 ft 1

Last Wed 12th March I weighed 13 stone 13

Aged 52

Before last Wed (12th) I was getting into terrible eating habits. Overeating and binging on things like:

chocolate
cheese
crisps especially Pringles

chips and burgers from nearest fast food joint

pizza slices from Greggs

creamy pastries from Sainsbury’s

lattes etc .. the list goes on

Anyway, I’ve weighed today after a week’s strict diet and exercise program - and have lost

12lbs!!!!! 💪💪💪

I could shout this from the rooftops ! I was getting into such bad habits this needed to happen

You've lost almost a stone in a week?

penparrot · 19/03/2025 06:43

How much did you weight to start with? That’s a huge loss.

She clearly said 13.13

LauraNorda · 19/03/2025 06:48

You have done really well but I would suggest losing the weight more slowly. That way you will have changed your digestive system and really dulled your cravings for junk food.

myplace · 19/03/2025 07:02

salt And carbs affect your weight, so cutting out processed carbs will show a huge change. It’s a lot of water.

It’s still really good, but continuing with your new diet will give you a more sensible loss this week, as the water has gone.

PsychoHotSauce · 19/03/2025 07:07

Congratulations OP, what a boost to motivate you!

Just a word of warning, don't get despondent when it slows down, and it will. Often big initial losses spur us on, but then once the initial water weight is gone losses get smaller. Try and remain consistent and log the downward trend overall if you can, so you can see you're moving in the right direction.

Wilfrida1 · 19/03/2025 07:18

I have no wish to p* on your chips, I mean lettuce, but yes, you will have a stonking great initial loss if you go from having a diet like that to watching what you eat and exercising. And the first week, a lot can be fluid, so bear that in mind.

Having said that, good for you for initiating a change and putting in all that effort. Give yourself a paperclip for every day you manage to stay on track, and see the chain lengthen. It's good to have that as a visual reminder. And I find week 4 is often tricky - the reality sets in - so have a few things planned out for that week.

Well done!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 19/03/2025 07:23

Good on you. Like PP I recommend weighing daily or weekly and writing down your weight, so you are motivated through the slower phases.

Add lots of high volume veg and fruit to your diet so you don’t feel hungry and tempted.

Drink lots of water, herbal teas etc to stay hydrated.

CarrieOnComplaining · 19/03/2025 07:37

Great start OP!

What’s your plan and what adjustments have you made?

Establishing healthy eating on a sustainable basis will give great long term results.

And save you money by the sounds of it!

As you go on, 1lb a week loss quickly makes a difference so don’t be deterred when weight loss settles to 1 or 2lbs a week. Congratulate yourself for a healthier diet.

Good luck!

At 52 & 5'1 that's seriously impressive & a great kick start, you must feel fab! It's so hard at this age & height but what a start.

FortyElephants · 19/03/2025 07:41

I mean, well done but don't get disheartened when the scales don't go down or go up a bit in the next couple of weeks. It's not physically possible to lose that much fat in a week meaning at least half of it will be water which will replenish over the next couple of weeks showing an increase in the scales. I find it's helpful to learn about what's happening to your body when you're in a calorie deficit so you know what's realistic and what you can expect.

Thank you - the changes I’ve made really are disciplining myself - to exercise when I don’t want to and also with food - I only ate half a pack of nice cold cooked meat the other day even though I was hungry for the other half - I put it away - so discipline really both with food and exercise !
