as it seems somehow pretentious

boden is NOT "good value"

MamaG · 13/05/2008 13:59

I would buy new PJs without a doubt

hunkermunker · 13/05/2008 14:00

It's the specification of Boden.

Not unreasonable to buy new nighties. Not unreasonable to buy new nighties from Boden. Just seems a bit odd to post about, but I guess people post about all sorts of things, so I shall revise my opinion to "meh"

PosieParker · 13/05/2008 14:00

They don't stretch, fade or go out of shape. Even when worn they look nice and can be passed down, I'll take that over vile supermarket, cheap sweatshop crap anyday that fades, has hideous characters, is mishaped after one wash and looks cheap.

hunkermunker · 13/05/2008 14:01

Supermarket or Boden - they are of course the only two options for night attire for girls.

I am glad I have boys and have more choice then

In what world is Boden good value? Children grow. They have summer and winter pjs (in my house they do anyway) so sometimes you only get 6 months wear out of them. And the Asda ones last that long. Actually DD is wearing a lovely pair of pink cotton (not jersey) pjs with blue spots from Asda last year. She also has a Matalan nightie from the year before. So maybe my children don't actually grow....

pootleflump · 13/05/2008 14:02

Go for it- I would

scottishmummy · 13/05/2008 14:03

what's the fuss about a mum buying her child something new that she will get wear out of.quite thoughtful imo.

i dont think this is an intentionally show offy action, i would not read too much in to it

Collision · 13/05/2008 14:04

I did this too but was embarrassed at the fact they were new PJs for the occasion and not that they were BODEN!!

If you dont like the Boden nighties I found a lovely website that does Fairy Nighties...

www.frillylily.co.uk

hunkermunker · 13/05/2008 14:04

Enid knows why she started the thread.

Let's ask her.

Enid, was it because you wanted to know whether they should have new nighties? New Boden nighties? Or whether other parents would think you were snobby if you bought specifically Boden nighties? Or something else?

PosieParker · 13/05/2008 14:08

Enid, there is obviously inverted snobbery about Boden, a twin pack for £26... not that bad for something they'll wear for at least 150 days or rather nights!

HappyNewYearFeet06 · 13/05/2008 14:09

Agree to buying new pyjamas as they will get worn again but no need to mention Boden! Although Boden is lovely.

I buy my dd's nightwear from Asda as well as Mothercare and Primark. I try not to go for characters if I can help it and her pj's and nighties have all lasted well. Her best being her Xmas nighties that she wears all year round, lol!

Oh and the Primark pyjamas were lovely cotton shirt style pj's with fairies on and look fab.

If dd gets herself ready for bedshe never wears tops that match the bottoms and she also has some fab ankle swingers but hey are only pj's after all, not a going out outfit!

nailpolish · 13/05/2008 14:10

nope no inverted snobbery re boden

Why any objection then? It's really nice stuff.

It is pretentious in as much as surely one passes on the nightie bought for the older dd to the young one. Soooo, if both girls turn up in brand new nighties then unless they were recent presents from Great Aunt Maude, it could be seen as pretentious.

yes it is nice posie theres no denying that

i just dont have tons of cash to spend on pjs no one ever sees as they are worn by a child in her bed

id rather pay £10 for a twin pack from vertbaudet or tkmaxx

HuwEdwards · 13/05/2008 14:13

D'you know, this really bugs me - the same as when a note comes home from school saying ' please can Katy come in white shorts and t-shirt as she's playing a sheep'

and then the parent does the equivalent of trotting off to the nearest field to decapitate and shear the fleece of some unsuspecting sheep, well...they go and hire or buy some fabulous costume which makes all the other little sheep feel completely inadequate.

And Boden? FFS...

PosieParker · 13/05/2008 14:14

If my children had one of these events, which they did on Friday they went in their Boden pyjamas, that were two weeks old and not bought especially. And they looked brand new.

bozza · 13/05/2008 14:15

DD's pink cotton asda pjs still in excellent condition and shape and just blue spots - no characters (although she rather prefers her peppa pig ones that cost twice as much from Next and will go out of shape) and no fading. Will concede the sweatshop point, mind you.

I am a recent Boden convert (last couple of years) as I think they offer, especially for boys, good age appropriate clothes in interesting colours and good cuts. I hate branded clothes, I will concede that they are more expensive than other brands but I like it!!
I retract my damnation of all other brands!!
