Has anyone got a fire that works with a remote like this and can help?! (Pic attached). Very stressed as due to go away in the morning…

The remote in the photo isn’t doing anything. It says it has some battery left. Does anyone know why it wouldn’t be working?

What are you trying to do? Turn it off? Is there any physical buttons on the fire? We have a remote but actual buttons on the fire as well.

Mindgardner · 15/03/2025 20:41

Replace the battery, it won't have enough power to operate the fire!

@Littletreefrog yes turn off. Can’t see any physical buttons on it…

@Mindgardner it shows it still has two bars battery though?

I've got exactly the same remote op. There is also a receiver on the outside wall. Have you checked the batteries in that?

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 15/03/2025 20:44

There is also a battery in the wall behind a grid. If you need a photo of the grill thing let me know and I will try and send one. The battery in mine is one of those 9V rectangular ones
so get someone down to the garage/supermarket/corner shop before they close. The battery in the remote talks to the battery in the wall. Is your fire stuck on?

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 15/03/2025 20:44

Are there batteries in the reciever unit? There should be a hatch or door somewhere to get into the innards of the fire. It could be those batteries have gone.

Bakingdiva · 15/03/2025 20:45

Press and hold the red button, it should turn off. We have the same one and that’s how ours works. If the remote didn’t have any power there wouldn’t be anything showing on the screen

PaintDecisions · 15/03/2025 20:45

What is the name and model of the fire? It will absolutely have a way to turn it off on the fire itself.

Gpcotswol · 15/03/2025 20:46

I’m really stressed it’s making a buzzing sound

I posted an image of the manual, it's under review.

Littletreefrog · 15/03/2025 20:53

Ok well that dial looks to be turned to off. So the dial is turned to off but it's still on? Do you need your gas for anything else? I would be tempted to turn the gas off at the meter if the fire is turned off at the dial but still burning gas that doesn't seem safe.

Lovelyview · 15/03/2025 20:58

The gas pipe to your fire should have a valve. This can be turned off by turning the valve to a right angle with the pipe. You can google gas pipe valve tap to see a picture of one.

jewelcase · 15/03/2025 21:00

As others have said, it could well be the battery in the receiving unit. This got me stuck at first because I didn’t even know there was a receiving unit!

Alternatively can you just turn the gas to the fire off rather than the gas supply to the whole house?

@jewelcase thanks, is the receiving unit what I’ve posted? As I can’t see any batteries

The receiving unit in mine is on the opposite side to the gas control knobs

On my fire (which is a Gazco Riva 2) the glass ‘hole’ bit with the fire behind it has a metal surround. The bottom piece of the surround is magnetic and can be removed, exposing the receiving unit with the batteries inside.

However, if the fire is on then this would be extremely hot, so be careful!

TheNuthatch · 15/03/2025 22:31

My receiver unit is on the wall near the fireplace. It just has a white plastic cover, looks like a plug socket without the plug holes. Inside is a 9v battery. If your remote won't work, it will be the other battery.

saveforthat · 15/03/2025 22:33

Op, what make and model is your fire because my receiver is outside next to the gas meter.

Hi, so it turns out the remote is damaged/broken in that the connection wire had broken off. So even with new batteries it wouldn’t then turn on at all!

Ive turned off the gas supply to it and removed the four batteries from box next to the fire. It went off last night and was cold when I went to bed. I’m really worried about leaving the house though now. Do you think this is safe? I’m worried as I couldn’t click it off as the remote had broken while it was on

OP posts:
BMW6 · 16/03/2025 07:53

You've turned off the gas supply do there's no gas to burn whatever the remote control "wants to do", so perfectly safe.
