I know he’s not really conventionally attractive, but I love his stuff and I think he’s really talented - and yeah. I would.

Anyone else?

I definitely would. Love him!

Whu · 15/03/2025 20:29

I think he comes across well in real life from what I’ve seen of him.
He usually plays characters with a dark side though and I genuinely think some people are influenced by this 😆.

Not questioning his acting skills.

I actually took a dislike to him after seeing him being interviewed, possibly Graham Norton but can't remember.

He made some comments which gave a veiled ego or chip on his shoulder feeling.

As for working class prejudice, I'm working class and I totally agree that not enough actors from that background get given a chance. I'm all for that and good for him if he's championing it.

I guess it is entirely subjective but I don't see anything attractive about him either. It's not his height, my partner is only 5 6 !

This.

It's nothing to do with class. It was when I saw him interviewed on something too (was it Graham Norton? I remember them talking about his Jamaican heritage if that helps) and all I can remember is thinking: what a self congratulating cock, and what a chip on his shoulder.

whatsausername · 15/03/2025 20:32

This is how I feel about David tennant. He’s clearly not conventionally attractive but there’s something about him! I watched Rivals and thought, yeah, I definitely would haha

glittereyelash · 15/03/2025 20:49

Oh definitely. Very talented and always speaks so highly of his wife. Love him.

It was Graham Norton, I watched the exact interview and he came across so badly. I used to love him but now just appreciate his acting abilities without the admiration for him personally. There has also been some very bad press about him recently with awful stories.

There have been stories that didn't show him in a great light. I think he's a fantastic actor but I'm not sure about him as a person.

What are the stories?

What stories, I haven’t seen anything?

What are the stories?

He was evicted from a nephews footballs match recently for the vile abuse he was yelling at the referee from the sidelines, many witnesses reported it was far beyond the usual football banter and the match was abandoned til he left the grounds. I believe there has been an FA investigation as a result.

there was also an article that he was seen screaming and being abusive towards a young female member of staff at a go-karting centre. She supposedly enforced a safety rule directed at his son and he verbally attacked her til she cried.

ISTHISALINE · 15/03/2025 21:25

Just did a google and he was calling the ref, ‘a fucking teletubby’ and ‘a fat useless twat’ and asked if he’d been bullied in school. Charming man!

I was so disappointed by the stories and the recent interviews but he doesn’t come across as well as he used to.

PoppyBaxter · 15/03/2025 21:26

I watched Adolescence and throughout thought...he would SO get it!
I love the look of him and that he looks a bit rough and is strong and stocky, and also love the Scouse accent.

IjustbelieveinMe · 15/03/2025 21:39

I love him too. More so after listening to his desert island disc’s episode which made me cry. There is a lot more to him than you think.

SuePreemly · 15/03/2025 20:13

I know people who've worked with him on TV shows and apparently he isn't very nice at all

Oh noooooo

OP posts:
Retrospeaker · 15/03/2025 21:48

Crikey to all the ‘he really isn’t that nice’ reports. I had never heard of all that. Can’t decide whether to go looking for all the stories or let sleeping dogs lie!

Glad I’m not the only one who would though 😜

I’m 5’1, so the heights not an issue!

If you wouldn’t believe unsubstantiated rumours about someone you know, surely it makes little sense to believe them about someone you don’t? Or how he comes across in one interview? He’s an excellent actor. If he’s playing attractive, like any good actor, he’s attractive. If he’s playing ugly, then he’s ugly.

Simon Russell Beale, who was then a short, stocky, silver-haired man 15 years older than I was, made me believe he was compellingly attractive as Benedick at the NT in 2007. because he is a genius.

lemmein · 15/03/2025 22:31

I love him! He makes you feel every emotion his character is going through. I was watching adolescence and (spoiler - well, not massively if you know what the drama is about but I’ll warn for the whingers Grin)

the bit where his son is being strip searched - you could feel his frustration and helplessness through the screen. Excellently shot and a really powerful scene.

Brilliant actor!

Oh dear, yikes. I thought he seemed like a lovely guy.

grinchalicious · 16/03/2025 06:01

I like him too - he's an amazing actor and there is definitely a little something je ne sais quoi about him 😉❤️

OMG is this true?! Gutted if that is the case as really admired him as an actor.

JanglingJack · 16/03/2025 06:06

ExitPursuedByABare · 15/03/2025 20:08

Too short. But love him and his acting.

Same.

JitterbugFairy · 16/03/2025 06:37

He lives near me but yet to bump into him. He's lovely by all accounts.

Fawn87 · 16/03/2025 06:47

I'm not into the rough and ready Scouser type probably because I am Scouse and see men who talk like that all the time. He is a brilliant actor though and can see why others would like him.
