After 11 years of being a lone parent/carer reliant on carer’s allowance and tax credits, I’ve been offered a SEN TA 1-1 role that fits in with my caring responsibilities. I can’t wait to get back to working although it’s a massive departure from my pre disabled child life and career. I have filled my very little spare time with volunteering in various capacities to keep me sane.

I need this. I really hope it works out under my current circumstances 🤞

Good luck - I hope it works out really well!

Mine is just some really nice chats with people I love - my mum, my old friend who lives in Australia now, my son who is away at uni.

I spent yesterday at work walking Pygmy goats and bottle feeding lambs with some service users who are traditionally a tricky group and it went without a hitch and was joyful. Social care is the best job in the world sometimes.

My 17 year old son brought his college tutor some doughnuts because she was stressed out. He also walked his female friend home because it was dark and he was worried about her..... he's quite a sensitive little soul

You are bringing up a fine man @shellyleppard Well done you and we wish him the very best of life

I had an "exercise' session with my 4 and 6 year old. It was fun mucking around. And because I really don't exercise at all am happy we did that. Hoping we do more and I restart c25k which I've completed once but knee pain meant am back to sitting whole day. Oh and this week I had 37 mins of brisk walking. Not as good as last week's 73 but better than most days (yeah, sad I know). Hoping to do better next week.

I came back from a holiday that was ok but not brilliant. I wasn't really in the right frame of mind for it but DH neede a break for various reasons.Plus the weather was disappointing.Walking back into the house and seeing the spring bulbs in the sunny garden and just that feeling of being home made me so happy and more relaxed than all the time we were away.

My lovely dad came through a hospital procedure despite high risks.

My daughter made the netball squad :)

I've had a really rough week so I appreciate this isn't much but it actually made me cry (in a good way!)

I'm a performing arts teacher in school show week combined with some shit personal stuff that's taking up loads of time. Coming to the end of a 90 hour working week setting up this show ahead of the whole day rehearsals and perfromances. Today was hard physical set building work that I'm not cut out for and I was right on the edge by the evening. One of our leading roles is a pretty difficult child with lots of additional behavioural and learning needs who we've taken a massive risk on. They came into the theatre at hometime (which was out of bounds for the day but whatever!), looked at the set and shouted 'Oh my God, that looks SICK! I can't wait for tomorrow, I'm going to practise my solo so much tonight.' and ran out again.

I probably should have told them off but they literally made my week!

Love this.
The trust and care will make a difference in this child’s understanding of themselves

Found out that someone who did work experience with me a while back now has a job on the field. Really lovely to hear 🙃

It's absolutely fabulous when that connection clicks its it , many years ago I had to do similar with a youngster that had damage his knee . It took a long yime but suddenly one day he just seemed to click what I wanted from him with no pressure at all.

Have uou seen Endo the blind horse of Fb .? The bond he has with his owner is the best thing I have ever seen

It felt amazing, especially as she’s my first horse and was really unsettled when I first got her, and I was terrified and thought I’d made a huge mistake.

In three months, we’ve gone from her rearing on the way into the arena with me trying my best not scream and run away, to her taking voice commands and following me with no rein.

She’s brilliant.

I’ll definitely look out for Endo.

I got free tickets to the theatre through a mate, it was a lovely musical, had a meal out before... as exciting as it gets for me these days!!

Found out I'm getting a bonus from work that wasn't expected. So it's going to help towards clearing down my credit card debt.

Enjoying this thread.

Highlight was last Sunday when we sat on the train back from Penzance to Reading looking at the stunning view all the way.

I’m so sorry op but I don’t have one. It’s been shite, starting with the death of a dear friend. I’ve enjoyed reading other people’s little joys though.

Actually I forgot one. A colleague very shyly sidled up to me with a bottle of champagne and said “I got this for you because I know you’ve had a shit week”. It made me cry it was so sweet and unexpected.

This is a lovely thread. Thanks for starting it @ThatLemonPanda

I found out I’m inheriting £80k. My little wad was chosen to do a performance in school assembly and he did brilliantly. I managed to get very stubborn paint off my favourite tablecloth 😂

shellyleppard · 15/03/2025 07:52

@NautilusLionfish thank you for your kind words . Hope you feel better soon x small progress is still progress 🙏💐❤️
