I love all sorts of wicked MIL and SIL stories, except when related to childcare of tiny babies. Followed by wicked stepmother stories and dissection of family budgets, who pays for what.

I like the ones where someone asks AIBU in thinking (insert group of people or all people) are ruder/less helpful/etc where it becomes immediately obvious why all of OP's encounters are like this and it isn't other people.

School gates beef

"My MIL wants to cuddle my newborn DC. Should I go NC?"

They make me want to say 'look love, it's not all about you and for your own sanity I think you need to realise that it takes a village to raise a child' ... but I don't, 'cos it's bit blunt when the new momma's hormones are all over the place.

I love a bridezilla "my friend had asked that I buy £1500 9 inch heels, go on three international hen dos and arrive a week before the wedding to build the venue"

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 13/03/2025 13:38

I need to stop reading the ones where lovely people are lending money, giving lifts and doing childcare for ungrateful CFs as I get annoyed on their behalf!

Wedding ones.

Especially where the OP is considering taking out a credit card and forgoing a family holiday to go to the wedding/hen do of someone that they don't even like very much.

Edited

I came on to say the same! Another variation is the bride to be who is having a child free destination wedding and is annoyed that the groom's sister won't leave her newborn with a babysitter for days to attend. Bonus points if she expects everyone to agree that actually she is doing the SIL a favour by providing her with this chance for a break from parenting.

My entire family were a nightmare in the run up to my wedding (eg. inviting people I barely knew or actively disliked to be bridesmaids/ushers, contacting our caterers to try to have the menu changed etc) so I think reading about other people's wedding craziness makes me feel like I'm not the only one. (Over 20 years of marriage and it still annoys me!)

I really like the ones with a whole narrative arc of a gaslit woman in love with some abusive piece of shit having the scales removed from her eyes by sisterly tough love. Even better when there is a “he’s left and I’m glad” happy ending.

KimberleyClark · 13/03/2025 13:48

Childfree wedding ones, where people say it’s the joining of two families and children should be there, and they then go on to hate their in-laws ever more.

101Nutella · 13/03/2025 13:49

Bill splitting with CF and the absolute cringe fest it would be in real life watching this dispute play out.

MoetUndChandon · 13/03/2025 18:10

Ones where the OP is being taken advantage of my neighbours/family for childcare and we all help write assertive emails/text so she can grow a backbone

mumbleberry · 13/03/2025 18:15

Cheeky fuckers who want to 'split' the bill whilst parking awfully
