I love all sorts of wicked MIL and SIL stories, except when related to childcare of tiny babies. Followed by wicked stepmother stories and dissection of family budgets, who pays for what.

Parking. Love a bit of parking beef! With diagrams of course.

Waitingforspring77 · 12/03/2025 22:46

I love CF threads

rereturner · 12/03/2025 22:47

I like the ones where pretty much 100% of the responses are YABU (with explanations why), but op refuses to accept this and posts again and again explaining why the correct answer is actually YANBU.

Gotback · 12/03/2025 22:50

First 3 answers nailed it.

Biggerbucket · 12/03/2025 22:51

@Waitingforspring77 Of course, how could I forget the CFs!

Headabovetheparapets · 12/03/2025 22:53

Did any one else open this planning to type ‘Roast’ or ‘steak’ 🤣🤣🤣?
Would have to be the CF ones, who won’t see the error of their ways & keep doubling down on their stupidity.

macaroniandcheeze · 12/03/2025 22:54

Inheritance disputes

Edited to add..they’re better when everyone is still alive and falling out over potential/hypothetical inheritances.

Porcelainpig · 12/03/2025 22:54

The ones that are clearly posted by bots, journos and trolls where they pretty much get sussed out straightaway. Sometimes the stories are so mad and don't make sense that it is obvious.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/03/2025 22:55

I came on to say fillet or rump 🤣

ouipamplemousse · 12/03/2025 22:59

I like the ones where the wife has decided to leave her abusive husband, and we’re all helping her to do the planning and get her ducks in a row before leaving, and in due course get the update to say she’s reached safety.

Me too ❤

Not really AIBU but my specific favourite 'beef' is partners who change their mind about having children after stringing OH along for years. This can take many forms.

Men who say they want kids then change their mind when their DW is nearing 40.

Men and women who agree to have no kids until the man decides when the woman is way too old that he does want kids and buggers off leaving her alone for some 30 yo to start a family.

Women complaining they wanted 2 or 3 or more dc and their partner doesn't (I would side with the partner in this).

Variant is man who says they want to get married then life gets in the way and 2dc on says he doesn't want marriage.

Also love unreasonable stepmums, mostly in the wrong but I also like hearing fro. Lovely well balanced stepmums.

I don't like endless MIL threads. Sad to be a MIL one day. You can't do right for doing wrong.

Also love the trend for demanding that in law's in particular can't visit PFB but usually happy to have their own DPs. Same for Christmas: want to spend Christmas with my side of the family but can't stand DHs.

Ah I love mumsnet!

Grimes88 · 12/03/2025 23:08

Agreed with PP on parking with diagrams! But topping that would another PPs comment about when someone finally leaves an abusive partner and checking back for updates on how they are doing, so empowering!

chambawamba · 12/03/2025 23:12

CF stories and those where someone has discovered a cheating partner and actually kicked them out!

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 12/03/2025 23:15

I adore the ones where the OP posts about a terrible relationship and she has been gaslit into thinking she is the problem... Then we all set her straight and we finally get an update she has left him and got her own place.

It feels like we are all giving the advice we would our best friends and it makes me happy to think of the women somewhere being strong and doing okay because we all helped her see her worth.

I was going to say rump too. I took it way too literally.

Mnetcurious · 12/03/2025 23:19

People being CFs / inheritance disputes / badly behaved dh or “partner” / can’t stand up for themselves and say no to someone who’s taking advantage / completely unreasonable parental expectations of the school / hen do or bridesmaid dramas.

100PercentFaithful · 12/03/2025 23:21

I can never resist a parking one. I do appreciate a decent diagram with it.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 12/03/2025 23:22

Parking, CFs, bonkers neighbours, shameless bill-splitters and inheritance issues. These are the absolute jewels in the MN crown.

LifeIsShiteEnoughAlready · 12/03/2025 23:22

I'm partial to braised brisket myself. Only kidding.

I like CF, parking, mysterious happenings, woo, embarrassing story, woman realises man is shit and frees herself and funny threads.

It's a great place for some things but you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Poonu · 12/03/2025 23:24

CF - no doubt

JustJoinedRightNow · 12/03/2025 23:26

Definitely the CF stories for me. But I need to hear how they got their comeuppance or were called out for being a CF

FondantFancyFan · 12/03/2025 23:27

The baby bubble threads where the op doesn't want visitors or anyone holding their baby at all. Then a few months later probably the same op complains about people not giving enough attention to their little darling. Not realising that because they'd banned everyone from visiting, they all got bored and moved on.

Some people are very thick.

Thursa · 12/03/2025 23:28

CF, finding a new one, getting a cup of tea and settling in for a read is magic!

YourBestFriend · 12/03/2025 23:40

Phone snoopers are my personal favourite. Some poor woman finds out that her husband has the most abhorrent pictures on his phone, only to end up taking the rap from users because she snooped. LOL.
The nerve of some moronic users...
