Not an AIBU but here for the traffic ….
Looking for advice…

In the order listed above is the safest countries to live .

Few years back (not sure how many ) I had an inkling iceland was the place to be if the UK got any worse.

I know many people are looking to leave the UK my dilemma is I don’t think I can if I choose too at the moment.

So me …. own business but not something I can transfer and convince Iceland (for example ) to let me in sadly .

Looking to retrain over the next 2/3 years decsisons on what keep changing due to the state of the Uk.

Does anyone have any advice on which route I should be taking with securing my future .

What would you / should I train in and at what level ?
I know what I would be doing if I was choosing to stay in the UK forever but i feel I need to make decisions that open doors to other countries.

Anyone else with this thought process ?

@OhMaria2 it's in the EU. We can apply for our Irish citizenship this month.

The easiest way, at the moment is probably get technological skills, as you could get a digital nomad visa which would give you options on where to live. However with the increase in AI means a lot of these jobs will disappear.

Thankyou for a very natural and normal reply.

Sadly I do not have a love nor patience for tech .

This is why I am here for some input though.

I used tv as an example I don’t fill my head with rubbish In any form .
Why was your go to the daily mail ?

You are clearly the argumentative type and I am not explain things properly .

Again I’ve explained this.
I have asked for info / advice simple
not judgement and arguments.

AIBU is where you don't want to post then, it's pretty much all arguments and judgement. If as I think you actually want advice on what to retrain as so you'll have a chance to emigrate to somewhere else then just ask that directly and preferably somewhere else like the work or living overseas subforums.

0ohLarLar · 11/03/2025 20:33

The UK is also a really safe country.

Not really sure what you are getting at really.

Just options and the opening of doors.

Nurses and doctors, yes of course. You'd need to speak Icelandic, though.

titchy · 11/03/2025 21:03

I’d love to have the option to move to somewhere with a better standard of living

Or up skill and earn more here so you can afford a better standard of living.

Why should we accept this . We have choices

Most don't actually. Unless you have a shortage occupation and don't mind leaving friends and family behind.

It's still not really clear what you think another country will give you that you don't get here - countries with cheaper rent and food tend to have lower salaries. Sunshine I get - but what do you have to offer Spain so you can get a skilled worker visa to live there?

Nursing is my passion and I have some background . Life lead me on a different direction untill now.
Id love to learn the language so happy to put the effort in. ( Have started a little research on the language )

You could just google...

I know what I’d love to do but I was open to information on what I’d possibly “need “ to do to open doors .

I suggest you devote a few years to becoming fluent in Icelandic, then. It's a difficult language to learn, mind.

OP, your writing is very confused. Are you living in the UK, which you feel has gone downhill so much! Or in the other country about which you are so enthusiastic you say you could work for the tourist board? You say you’d only leave ‘for the sun’, but then list Iceland and Ireland as places you’re considering…? Have you actually been to Ireland, Iceland and Austria?

Daysgo · 11/03/2025 21:13

If you're worried about the cost of living I think you need to start looking away from Europe, in particular Ireland and Iceland are not known for their low costs.

Havanananana · 11/03/2025 21:17

Followtheyellowbrickroad1 · 11/03/2025 21:06

I know what I’d love to do but I was open to information on what I’d possibly “need “ to do to open doors .

For Austria, assuming that you don't have a EU passport, what you "need" is a qualification or skill that is in demand, extensive experience of utilising this skill, for most positions a good command of the language - and then you need to find an employer who has been unsuccessful in finding a suitable candidate from amongst the 450 million EU and EEA citizens and who can convince the Employment Ministry that you are the person that they should be employing. Even then, you'll only receive a short-term visa. Note that since Brexit, many UK qualifications are no longer recognised in Europe so even with a qualification, you might still not meet the first requirement.

Plan B - marry an Austrian (or an Icelander for Iceland).

Sorry I have corrected . I am looking to re train in something that would give me access to a country other than the Uk
now in the past I believed Iceland as a good option .i love all Norwegian countries ( haven’t visited many though) have done research and have leaned there are different variations in the language and one is easier to learn to start with then progress. .
I’d say who wouldn’t love the sun and if we were still part of the EU then yes France and Italy would be first choices I’d think . ( episode they be any safer than the Uk )?

I’ve always loved my country but I believe there has had been a massive decline in the UK and i believe you would have to be blind to not see that .

All I am asking for is what would you train in for access to another country? Not that difficult .
I haven’t came here and said I know loads on the subject.

I do love the the snow but getting a tad older you see maybe it’s not that best option for this cold countries . 😊

I wouldn’t what to leave my county for so where less safe. .

I hope i have explained /simplified now.

Waterlilysunset · 11/03/2025 21:29

So there isn’t a thing ‘Norwegian countries’.

Norway is a country and its neighbours Sweden Denmark and Finland are Scandinavian countries. All have their own languages. Quite hard to master! Do you speak any other languages currently / are you a languages person??

FreeloaderWithAnAdBlocker · 11/03/2025 21:30

Can you please name the Norwegian Countries?

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 11/03/2025 21:35

You haven’t even explained what you mean by safe. Assuming you mean less crime, wouldn’t it be easier to move to a ‘safer’ part of the one country you do have an automatic right to live in? A deprived part of a European capital city is going to be (or feel) more dangerous than Cornwall or the Outer Hebrides.
From what you’ve described here I’m afraid you seem rather deluded about your chances of any desirable country wanting to take you - you don’t seem to have a lot in the way of assets to invest, skills or qualifications to offer, or languages so you can communicate with the natives. Sorry to be so brutally honest but your chances don’t look good.

And safety can be defined in many ways. A country with a poor or expensive health system is not very safe. A geothermically or seismically active country also has its dangers. Austria might be ‘safe’ for the Austrians, but right-wingers will see you as an undesirable foreigner nonetheless. Living in a different country with a different language is intrinsically stressful - you would simply be replacing one worry with others.

CremeEggThief · 11/03/2025 21:36

This makes no sense at all, OP! 🤣

None of your options are great for sunshine, and levels of antisocialand criminal behaviour are similar in certain areas of Ireland to certain areas of the UK (Irish living in England). Ireland is nearly as expensive as Scandinavian countries too!
