Hand hold needed please I have a lot of anxiety and phobia around sick

DD has just had a sickness bug on Friday night that lasted just that night into the early hours of Saturday morning. Recovered so went to the park today after over 72 hours of no symptoms. Stood under a climbing frame and DD asks why it smells. There was sick on the floor next to her so we quickly moved and went on something else and then I realised it was in her hair and somebody had obviously been sick on the platform abover and it dripped on her head. She also said it went on her face but didn’t tell me this until later. So upset I rushed her home to bath and wash hair and in the hair I managed to wipe her hands but it’s a done deal isn’t it? Going to get sick again 😭😢 happened at 4pm - urgh

Not necessarily.

Fromtheflagstones · 11/03/2025 19:22

Maybe. If the person who vomited had norovirus but they might not have.

Purtyburty · 11/03/2025 19:26

I suppose I mean any sickness but not just norovirus

It's not nice for DD but she's most likely going to be fine.

ExtraOnions · 11/03/2025 19:39

A lot of us have been sick on by our children over the years … I don’t think many get sick from it

Kattuccino · 11/03/2025 19:41

DS1 vomited into my partially open mouth once. Horrific. I didn't catch his bug.

Hope your DD stays well.

Hankunamatata · 11/03/2025 19:42

Grim but kids can be sick for lots of reasons not just contagious ones

Wakeywake · 11/03/2025 19:46

It's not a given. I never caught a sickness bug off my kids despite being vomited on and cleaning after them.

WilfredsPies · 11/03/2025 19:49

I mean, she might, but it’s just as possible she won’t. It could have been a kid who’d eaten too many sweet things and then just thrown up. Or it could’ve been a kid who’d eaten too has had the same strain of sickness as your DD and she’ll have a short period of immunity to it.

Even if she does get sick, you got through it last time and you’ll get through it this time.

BallerinaRadio · 11/03/2025 19:55

Your kid is gonna get sick on many many occasions. It happens, she'll recover and it's happened to everyone. No need to panic over it just take all the steps to make her comfortable until she gets better

LurkyMcLurkinson · 11/03/2025 20:02

She might not but as a parent, sick is never going to be avoidable. Have you engaged in therapy about your anxiety/phobia?

Didimum · 11/03/2025 20:05

Can you seek therapy, OP? It’s not great for your daughter to be effected by your phobias and anxiety.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/03/2025 20:05

The person who was sick might have just eaten too many sweets, there’s no guarentee she will get sick. You need to be incredibly careful to not pass this phobia on to your child as that is the real issue here

cannynotsay · 11/03/2025 20:07

I don't think op has a phobia I think she's just burnt out and worried that her kids gonna get another bug!

She literally said she has a lot of anxiety and phobia around being sick in the first line of her post.

bakebeans · 11/03/2025 20:17

She will do at some point if not now. I don’t do sick. See how u go at the time. I ended up going for it as I didn’t have a choice. Still can’t cope with me own but anxiety is better

Why do people bother replying when they haven't even read the first post?

Brenna24 · 11/03/2025 20:29

As others have said, not necessarily. If it helps prepare yourself by buying a couple of designated buckets and some cleaning things and leave a bucket in her bedroom and one in the living room. Then hope for the best. My DD has a very sensitive gag reflex and often vomits when she coughs at night. We just have a bucket that lives by her bed.

Apollo365 · 11/03/2025 20:33

If there is a roundabout it was probably that. Two of my kids get sick every time!!! (They are banned, they don’t listen)

I know I really don’t want to pass on this anxiety to her. I think I just feel worse as we have just got over a bug and now 3 days later this happens. What are the chances?!

Yes there was - thank you for this but of hope!

If she’s just had a bug she might have some immunity.

Absolutely this, it would be so unlikely to get back to back sickness bugs. Otherwise it would just go round and round in schools and no one would ever be in.

JoyousEagle · 11/03/2025 20:39

There's probably just a bug going round your area, your DD has just had it, the child at the playground maybe had the same, so your DD won't catch it again so soon after having it herself.

RaspberryRipple2 · 11/03/2025 20:40

Very unlikely if she’s just had a sickness bug, I’ve never known my kids to get them back to back it’s usually once per year, so I assume they are the same noroviruses and the immunity just wears off.

also doubt a child would be playing on the park then suddenly come down with a bug, they usually make you feel quite poorly for a few minutes before the vomiting starts. A pile of sick on a play park is far more likely a one off.
