Hand hold needed please I have a lot of anxiety and phobia around sick

DD has just had a sickness bug on Friday night that lasted just that night into the early hours of Saturday morning. Recovered so went to the park today after over 72 hours of no symptoms. Stood under a climbing frame and DD asks why it smells. There was sick on the floor next to her so we quickly moved and went on something else and then I realised it was in her hair and somebody had obviously been sick on the platform abover and it dripped on her head. She also said it went on her face but didn’t tell me this until later. So upset I rushed her home to bath and wash hair and in the hair I managed to wipe her hands but it’s a done deal isn’t it? Going to get sick again 😭😢 happened at 4pm - urgh

@Purtyburty To reassure you, I’m emetophobic and neither of my teenagers suffer from it, even though they’ve witnessed me rushing around in my rubber gloves disinfecting everything and I’ve always left the room when they’ve been sick ( it’s witnessing the event that I can’t stand, I can deal with cleanup!)

They just view my behaviour as daft but understand that it’s a phobia.

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 11/03/2025 20:47

That is really gross! Poor DD
I agree with the PP - some kids throw up in the playground due to spinning round, playing energetically after a heavy meal etc. And some kids bat off bugs. I remember a classmate practically throwing up on me at school and I was fine.

ChiliFiend · 11/03/2025 21:00

That is sooo gross, poor you!! I feel the same way about sickness bugs, and I read somewhere that when you get noro you're protected from catching the same one for about 12 weeks - if that's the case and it's the same thing going around your area that both your daughter and this child caught, then she'll be fine.

Purtyburty · 11/03/2025 21:06

Just bracing for impact! My husband is now back from work so here to help.

Too much spinning on the roundabout! Unlikely you child will be ill, but I agree your emetaphobia needs addressing for your own sake not the children’s! Good luck

Scutterbug · 11/03/2025 21:09

Could well have been youths who overindulged on alcohol, that happens in our local park! But kids are resilient, she may well be fine x

I love the nonchalance of some people who have replied and really aspire to be like that.

I don't have kids but I can completely understand your worries about her it getting it again so soon after.

I went through the same thing but for myself recently - unfortunately I work in an environment with lots of poorly people and I was so scared of catching another D&V bug after it took me nearly a month to feel mostly back to normal again. It also caused me to have persistent nausea afterwards until just recently, which just further fuelled my anxiety 🥴.

Fingers crossed that your daughter and none of you come down with something x

Dairymilkisminging · 11/03/2025 21:40

When you Google the sick bug it says your protected for two weeks after having it. Seeing as she was already ill she'll probably get away with it.

We've not long got over it and it's horrible

Hypnosis is your friend!

A decent hypnotist will cure your phobia in 2 or 3 sessions. My friend suffered from severe emetophobia which was causing her a lot of stress and she used to have to ring her mum to come and look after the children as she just couldn’t cope. Thankfully, she found an amazing guy and was cured in two sessions. She has 2 primary aged children and now doesn’t dread them getting ill.

Finding a good hypnotist is harder though. Just like hairdressers, there are plenty of average ones who have completed the initial training and you may get lucky but there are a few who are really talented.

Time invested in researching a good one with rave reviews will be time and money well spent.

How much did it cost your friend? I have this phobia to and tried counselling but she was shit and didn't help me at all just made me feel stupid

MinnieCoops · 12/03/2025 09:13

That's grim, your poor DD.

I doubt she'll get sick.

Apollo365 · 15/03/2025 07:57

Was she ok in the end OP?

FateReset · 15/03/2025 10:20

Kids vomit for all kinds of reasons, norovirus being one of 100s of possible causes. Maybe the child was overexcited or anxious climbing, or had a reaction to food or had vertigo or a medical condition that made them prone to vomiting. It's unlikely they were suddenly struck by a bout of noro in a playground. My youngest gets travel sick and sometimes this lasts for a while after we're out the car. She also vomits when she has a cold or cough.

But just in case, arm yourself with face masks, disposable gloves and bed pads, make sure sick bowls are to hand in case she did catch something. Clinnel wipes for all surfaces. Bicarb and carpet enzyme based cleaner.

And in case you catch it, get some anti-emetics from over the counter. When I last had neuro I luckily had some omeprazole to reduce the nausea, otherwise I would have struggled to care for kids.
